The Formex Field Automatic Gen 2 is a 40 mm automatic field watch in hard-coated Grade 2 titanium, with a layered, luminous dial, 150 m water resistance and interchangeable quick-release straps. It is a smaller-case update to Formex’s 2022 Field Automatic; its current listed movement is a Sellita SW200-2 Power+ with a 65-hour power reserve. “Accessible” is the launch framing, not an established price-category ranking: check Formex’s current regional listing for the price and availability that apply to your chosen configuration.
What changed on the Formex Field Automatic Gen 2?
Formex introduced the first Field Automatic line in 2022. The company presented Gen 2 in May 2025 as a refinement, rather than a wholesale redesign: the case shrank from 41 mm to 40 mm, the titanium case was reworked with a hardened surface, and the dial gained a more pronounced layered construction. The dial pairs a sunburst center with a sloping minute track and recessed stencil numerals filled with luminous material. A color-matched date window keeps the date display integrated with the dial. The three launch colors were Ice Blue, Coho Salmon and Basalt Grey; Formex’s current collection also lists Deep Blue and Golden Honey, so the color selection has moved beyond the original launch group.

The figures below are from Formex’s current product listing, accessed October 4, 2026. Its listed dimensions make the lug-to-lug measurement particularly useful when judging fit: the case reaches 46.6 mm from lug tip to lug tip, despite its 40 mm diameter.

Formex says its hardening process raises the Grade 2 titanium surface from 145 HV to 900 HV. That is the manufacturer’s material claim, not an independent wear or scratch test. The 54 g figure is for the case alone, not the complete watch on a strap.
How the movement specifications differ from launch reports
Current Formex specifications list the SW200-2 Power+ and a 65-hour reserve. That differs from launch-era coverage: Monochrome reported an SW200-1 and gave both 41 hours in its article text and 38 hours in its technical specifications; WatchPro USA reported an SW200-1 with a 41-hour reserve. Monochrome also reported 48 mm lug-to-lug, compared with Formex’s current 46.6 mm. The available sources establish these dated differences but do not explain whether they reflect a later specification change or earlier reporting errors. Which strap configuration makes sense?
Both listed strap styles use quick-release spring bars, making it possible to swap straps without a separate spring-bar tool. The watch has a standard 20 mm lug width, though a third-party strap still needs to fit the lug and spring-bar arrangement properly.

Formex specifies 7 mm of micro-adjustment for the deployant clasp. That adjustment applies to the clasp-equipped leather setup, not the Velcro strap.

Is the 40 mm case likely to fit?
The 40 mm diameter is only one part of the fit. The 46.6 mm lug-to-lug length is the better guide to how far the watch may span across a wrist, while its 10.6 mm height gives a sense of how much it rises above the wrist. Formex also lists an 8.8 mm perceived height; that is the company’s figure, distinct from the full case-height measurement.
- Compare the 46.6 mm lug-to-lug length with a watch you already wear comfortably.
- Use the 20 mm lug width to check strap compatibility.
- Remember that the 54 g case-only weight excludes the strap and clasp, so the complete watch will weigh more.
What can you use the watch for?
Formex rates the watch at 15 bar (150 m / 500 ft) and says that rating supports swimming and snorkeling. This is the maker’s stated activity guidance, not a claim of independent water-resistance testing. Check the crown is secured as instructed by Formex before exposing any watch to water, and follow the manufacturer’s care guidance.

The dial combines luminous recessed numerals with a minute track, but the available specifications do not provide a measured lume duration or an independent legibility assessment. If low-light readability is a priority, inspect the watch in person or consult a hands-on review before buying.

On Formex’s collection page accessed October 4, 2026, listed variants ranged from $975 to $1,115, with several marked “Pre-Order Now” and Coho Salmon marked out of stock. A product page viewed with Swiss currency selected displayed CHF 830 alongside preorder and shipping estimates.
