Its defining technical feature is an automatic movement beating at 36,000 vibrations per hour (5 Hz), with a silicon balance spring and up to 52 hours of power reserve. Choose between an alligator strap and a steel bracelet; the best size depends on how each case sits on your wrist.
What the Ultra-Chron Classic revives
The Classic is a Heritage model drawing on the dressier styling associated with the original Ultra-Chron. Fratello identifies the 1967 reference 7827 as its design source, while Gear Patrol also frames the new watch as a revival of that reference. The original case was 35 mm, smaller than either new option.
Longines also highlights the Ultra-Chron Diver launched in 1968 in its family history. That is a related but distinct watch: the Classic is not the larger Diver, and its 5 bar water-resistance rating does not make it a dive watch.
Fratello describes the Classic’s dial as sunray silver with a crosshair, applied indices and a framed date at 3 o’clock. The box-shaped sapphire crystal and restrained layout reinforce the period reference without making the watch a reproduction of the original dimensions.

Movement: what 36,000 vibrations per hour means
Longines lists the movement as automatic, with a date, a monocrystalline silicon balance spring and up to 52 hours of power reserve. The 36,000-vibrations-per-hour rate is 5 Hz: the balance completes five oscillations per second. A higher beat rate is a defining part of the Ultra-Chron identity, but by itself it does not establish how accurately an individual watch will keep time in everyday wear.
Fratello identifies the movement as caliber L836.6 and reports that the fully cased watch receives Timelab ultra-chronometer certification. According to that account, Timelab tests for 15 days at 8°C, 23°C and 38°C; the reported standard’s mean daily-rate limits are +6/-4 seconds per day. Those figures describe the certification standard, not a guarantee of the daily performance of every watch.

The silicon balance spring and high beat rate are documented specifications, not a promise that the watch is immune to magnetism, shocks or the need for servicing.
Choosing the 37 mm or 40 mm case
Both sizes use stainless steel. Fratello reports a thickness of 10.95 mm, including the box-shaped sapphire, and the following lug-to-lug measurements:

The reported lug-to-lug figures can help narrow the choice, but they cannot determine fit for every wrist. If possible, compare both sizes in person or measure a watch you know wears comfortably; case diameter alone does not show how far the lugs extend across your wrist.
Alligator strap or steel bracelet
Longines offers each case size with either a black alligator strap and buckle or a steel bracelet with a double-security folding clasp and micro-adjustment. Fratello describes the bracelet as a five-row design with a distinguishing line on the central links.

Fratello reported launch prices of €3,800 for the alligator-strap model and €3,900 for the bracelet model on 13 October 2025. Those are euro launch-market prices, not a current quote for every country.

Crystal, water resistance and daily use
Longines specifies a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides and water resistance of 5 bar. This is a dress-oriented watch with a stated rating; the rating alone does not establish suitability for every water activity. For water exposure, follow Longines’ guidance for the specific watch and keep its seals and crown in proper condition.
