The Seiko 5 Sports Heritage SRPL03 and SRPL05 are limited-edition re-creations of a late-1960s-to-early-1970s Seiko 5 Sports design. Both pair a compact 38.5 mm steel case with the automatic 4R36 movement, a rotating bezel and a retro rally-style leather strap; the choice between them is principally silver or black dial. Seiko calls them Heritage Design Re-creations. “Kamen Rider” is a collector and watch-media nickname associated with the earlier Seiko 5126-8090, not the official product name.
What are the SRPL03 and SRPL05?
Seiko presents the SRPL03 and SRPL05 as modern re-creations of a Seiko 5 Sports design popular in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The company says the shape and size follow the original as closely as practical, while using modern materials and its Caliber 4R36 automatic movement. Both dials revive the original Seiko 5 Sports logo at 12 o’clock. Seiko’s Heritage Design Re-creation announcement describes the collection and its two colorways.
The “Kamen Rider” label refers to the association watch media make with the late-1960s Seiko 5126-8090. It is useful shorthand for the design’s history, but Seiko does not use it in the official model titles.

Seiko’s announcement identifies the silver and black dials and shared design. Seiko USA’s launch announcement gives the US launch prices and notes that each case back is marked “Limited Edition” with a serial number.

With the same case and bracelet architecture, there is no stated specification advantage to either reference. The decision is about the dial’s look: silver emphasizes the brushed finish, while black gives the watch a darker, more subdued face. The included leather strap also offers an alternative to the steel bracelet.

Case size and strap choice
The 38.5 mm diameter and 44.8 mm lug-to-lug measurement make the case relatively compact on paper, while the 12.4 mm thickness gives it more height than a slim dress watch. Wrist fit still depends on wrist shape and personal preference; trying it on is the surest way to judge how the rotating bezel and case proportions feel. The 20 mm lug width allows strap changes in that width, though fit and compatibility depend on the replacement strap and its hardware.
Movement and everyday capability
The 4R36 is an automatic movement with day-date display, hand-winding and hacking seconds. Its approximately 41-hour reserve is the figure reported by Monochrome Watches, not a guarantee of identical running time in every use. Seiko specifies 100 m water resistance; that rating should not be treated as a substitute for checking the watch’s condition and crown security before water exposure.

How limited are these editions, and what did they cost at launch?
Seiko lists 9,999 pieces for each reference, with availability beginning in July 2024. That is a substantial numbered run by limited-edition standards, not a one-off or an extremely small production batch. Seiko USA announced a US launch price of $450 per model in 2024. Those are launch details, not a statement of current retail availability or resale value.

These watches make the most sense for someone drawn to the vintage Seiko 5 Sports design who wants a modern automatic with a compact steel case, rotating bezel and two included ways to wear it. The design connection is the main distinction: the specifications are shared between the models, and neither dial color changes the movement or case. Choose the SRPL03 if brushed silver better suits your taste, or the SRPL05 if you prefer matte black.

Whether either is worth its current asking price cannot be answered from the 2024 launch price alone. Availability and market prices can change, so check the seller, condition, included bracelet and strap, and the serial-numbered limited-edition case back before buying a pre-owned example.
