There is no single IWC Pilot’s Watch size that suits every wrist. Start by choosing the family and exact reference you want, then compare its diameter, thickness and strap width—and, if possible, try it on. IWC’s current collection overview lists sizes from 36 to 46 mm, but that range is not available in every family, and the exact reference can measure differently from a rounded collection label.
What sizes are available in IWC Pilot’s Watches?
IWC’s collection overview lists six size labels: 36, 40, 41, 43, 44 and 46 mm. These are collection-level labels, not a promise that every Pilot’s Watch family or reference comes in all six sizes. See IWC’s Pilot’s Watches collection overview.
Family pages narrow the choice. IWC lists its Pilot’s Watch Chronograph family at 41 and 43 mm, while the Big Pilot’s Watch Automatic family is listed at 43 and 46 mm. Check the Chronograph family page or Big Pilot Automatic family page for the relevant range.
Compare exact references, not just the collection labels
A rounded size label is a useful starting point, but it may not match the precise diameter on an individual product page. IWC’s cited Pilot’s Watch Chronograph TOP GUN IW389101 measures 44.5 mm, and its Big Pilot’s Watch IW501001 measures 46.2 mm. Compare the exact reference you are considering before deciding whether its proportions suit you.

| Reference | Diameter | Case height | Strap width | Power reserve | Water resistance |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pilot’s Watch Automatic TOP GUN IW326906 | 41 mm | 11.4 mm | 20 mm | 120 hours | 6 bar |
| Pilot’s Watch Chronograph TOP GUN IW389101 | 44.5 mm | 15.7 mm | 21 mm | 46 hours | 6 bar |
| Big Pilot’s Watch IW501001 | 46.2 mm | 15.6 mm | 22 mm | 168 hours | not stated (IWC reference page) |
These are manufacturer-published specifications for the named references, not independent performance-test results. Water resistance and other details should not be generalized to the entire Pilot’s Watches collection. Product configurations and availability can change by region, so check the local product page for the reference you plan to buy.
How to decide which size feels right
- Choose the family and function first. A Chronograph and a Big Pilot Automatic are different propositions, with different family size ranges. Decide which style and complication you want, then compare the available references within that family.
- Use diameter to shortlist, not to make the final call. The case’s height also contributes to how prominent it feels on the wrist. The examples above range from 11.4 mm to 15.7 mm in case height, as well as differing in diameter.
- Check the strap fit. The cited references have strap widths of 20, 21 and 22 mm respectively. If you are considering another strap, confirm the fit for that exact model rather than assuming all Pilot’s Watches use the same width.
- Try the exact reference if practical. Notice how the case and lugs sit, whether the watch feels comfortable through ordinary wrist movement, and whether its visual presence matches your preference. Those are practical fit checks, not an IWC sizing rule.
IWC’s published pages reviewed here do not give a wrist-circumference chart, a universal wrist-size cutoff or a comparable set of lug-to-lug measurements across the collection. Wrist circumference alone therefore cannot establish which case will fit you. An in-person try-on can help resolve differences that the diameter figure does not capture.

Why the collection includes different proportions
IWC describes Pilot’s Watches as designs that began as navigation watches in the 1930s and evolved into sports watches inspired by easy-to-read cockpit instruments. That is the brand’s account of the collection’s design. The size choice is part of that variety: family and reference determine the proportions and features you are comparing, rather than one diameter serving as a universal recommendation.
IWC says the Big Pilot’s Watch launched in 2002 and describes it as drawing on historical observation watches, with a large case and oversized conical crown. The brand also says the Chronograph has been a collection mainstay since 1994. These dates and descriptions are attributed to IWC’s respective Big Pilot Automatic and Chronograph family pages.
