Both revive Gae Aulenti’s pebble-shaped, lugless design and crown at 12 o’clock, but they are different watches, not the same model in new materials.
What is the Louis Vuitton Monterey?
Monterey is the name now associated with two Louis Vuitton watches designed in 1988 with Italian architect and designer Gae Aulenti: the LV I and LV II. Louis Vuitton says the LV I was reinterpreted in 2025 and the LV II followed in 2026. The name “Monterey” reportedly began as a nickname used by American clients, drawing on the French word montre for watch, before becoming official, according to Monochrome Watches. Louis Vuitton’s current collection account traces the design and chronology in its Monterey story.
The recognizable design cues are a rounded pebble-like case without conventional lugs, a crown at 12 o’clock, and a railway-track graphic around the dial. The crown’s unusual position and the spare, travel-influenced graphics give the watch a different silhouette from a conventional wristwatch.

The versions share the Monterey’s broad design language, but the LV I’s gold case and enamel dial should not be mistaken for a ceramic colorway of the LV II. They refer to different 1988 models and differ in size, materials and dial execution.

The 2025 Monterey: a gold, time-only LV I
The 2025 edition revisits the LV I in a 39mm polished 18k yellow-gold case with a white Grand Feu enamel dial, sapphire crystal and black calfskin strap. Monochrome Watches identifies the reference as WOYG11 and reports water resistance of 50m. It is limited to 188 pieces, according to the same first-look article.
Its automatic calibre LFT MA01.02 has a reported 45-hour power reserve. Monochrome describes the movement as having 174 components and a pink-gold rotor. The switch to a time-only automatic format is a substantial change from the original’s quartz movement and more complicated display. The launch price reported by Monochrome was €56,000; that is a 2025 launch figure, not a current offer.

The 2026 Monterey: ceramic interpretations of the LV II
Louis Vuitton brought back the LV II in 2026 as a permanent ceramic collection, in black and green. Its official US Monterey story describes a 37mm pebble-shaped case, automatic in-house LFTMA01.02 movement and railway-track hours-and-minutes markings. Louis Vuitton Japan’s 28 September 2026 announcement gives the case thickness as 11mm and notes that the revised thickness accommodates the automatic movement.
Black ceramic
The black version pairs glossy black ceramic with a matte white lacquer dial, red accents and red stitching on the strap. T3 identifies it as reference WOCR11 and reports a 37mm by 11mm case. Its specifications for the movement include 174 components and a 45-hour power reserve; those details are reported by T3.

Green ceramic
The green version uses green ceramic for the case and a matching green dial, with yellow lacquer hands. Louis Vuitton’s US description also calls out yellow accents on the green watch. T3 identifies this model as WOCR21 and reports the same 37mm by 11mm dimensions and 45-hour reserve as the black version.
Unlike the 1988 LV II, the ceramic models show hours, minutes and seconds, but omit the original’s date and alarm. Louis Vuitton also presents them as wearable beyond the wrist, including as a pendant or belt charm.

Is the Louis Vuitton Monterey automatic?
Yes. Both the 2025 gold LV I and the 2026 ceramic LV II versions use automatic movements. The 2025 model uses calibre LFT MA01.02, while the ceramic watches use LFTMA01.02 as named by Louis Vuitton. The reported power reserve is 45 hours for both generations: Monochrome gives that figure for the 2025 gold model, and T3 reports it for the ceramic versions.
What does the Louis Vuitton Monterey cost?
The available figures are tied to different dates and markets. Monochrome Watches reported a €56,000 launch price for the limited 2025 yellow-gold edition. Louis Vuitton’s US product listing showed $57,000 when retrieved in 2026. Why the redesign still reads as a Monterey
Louis Vuitton’s artistic director at La Fabrique du Temps, Matthieu Hegi, described the approach this way: “Reinterpreting a creation means respecting its design and spirit. We maintain the same graphic codes, but strive for a more modern and elevated feel.” The pebble case, absence of conventional lugs, 12 o’clock crown and railway-track graphics are the continuity; the LV I/LV II inspirations, case materials, sizes and display details distinguish each return.
