It is a reference design—not an announced retail product—and the companies have not provided a price, sales date, or consumer model name.
What did Magic Leap and Google unveil?
The companies presented a prototype illustrating how their work on optics, hardware integration, and user experience could contribute to glasses for Google’s Android XR platform. Magic Leap described it as a prototype and reference design, not a finished product announcement. Magic Leap’s announcement said the companies had extended their collaboration under a three-year agreement.
The collaboration began earlier: Magic Leap announced a strategic technology partnership with Google in May 2024. The 2025 announcement added a visible glasses concept and the three-year extension. The 2024 partnership announcement described the aim as combining Magic Leap’s augmented-reality expertise and optics with Google’s technology platforms.
What technology does the concept use?
The concept pairs Magic Leap waveguides and optics with Google’s Raxium microLED light engine. Magic Leap also describes contributions in device services and hardware integration. The companies say the development work is intended to balance visual quality, comfort, and manufacturability; those are stated goals, not independently measured results.

- 【SMARTEST: YOUR SCREEN, YOU RULES — No Software Needed】 Your Screen. You Rules! Built-in VisionPair 3DoF lets you pin, resize, and lock a 174″ screen in mid-air — no software, no dongles, no drift. Full screen customizations built right into the glasses: Anchor, Smooth Follow, 32:9 UltraWide, Side Mode. Auto Transparency switches between immersion and the real world with one tap. Smart Re-Centering snaps your view back instantly.
- 【BIGGEST: THE ULTIMATE IMMERSIVE GIANT — 174″ Screen, 58° FOV, 1200p】The largest virtual display in consumer XR. Period. A 174″ screen powered by Sony's latest-generation Micro-OLED panel pushes 1200p per eye at a class-leading 58° field of view with a 120 Hz refresh rate. Every frame is edge-to-edge sharp, silky-smooth, and jaw-droppingly vivid. It's like strapping an IMAX to your face.
- 【SMARTEST: 9-LEVEL DIMMING + AUTO TRANSPARENCY — No Software Needed】 Another reason The Beast is the smartest XR glasses ever made. One tap shifts between crystal-clear AR and full cinematic blackout across 9+ electrochromic levels — no app, no software, just hardware intelligence. Auto Transparency adapts between immersion and awareness on its own. Bright office, dim plane, pitch-dark bedroom — The Beast reads the moment for you. No glare. No reflections. Just pure immersion.
- 【BOLDEST: NEXT-LEVEL CLARITY & AUDIO — 1250 Nits + HARMAN AudioEFX】1250 nits of peak brightness — over 2× brighter than the competition — means you can actually see your screen outdoors, in sunlight, no squinting required. Pair that with HARMAN AudioEFX: deeper bass, wider soundstage, and crystal-clear highs tuned by the world's leading audio engineers. Other XR glasses make you choose between picture and sound. The Beast gives you both — cranked to eleven.
The October 2025 announcement provides no figures for weight, field of view, brightness, resolution, or battery life, and it does not report independent testing. There is therefore no sound basis to rank the prototype against other glasses on image quality, comfort, or everyday usability.
Can you buy the Magic Leap and Google glasses?
No purchase details were announced for this prototype. The October 2025 release gives no retail model name, price, or sales date, and identifies the device as a reference design rather than a retail SKU. Generic smart-glasses listings, Magic Leap 2 hardware, and accessories are not confirmed substitutes for it.

How this prototype fits into Google’s Android XR plans
Android XR is Google’s broader platform for headsets and glasses, not the name of this one prototype. Google’s May 2025 overview of glasses concepts described cameras, microphones, speakers, phone pairing, and an optional in-lens display. It also outlined possible Gemini assistance based on what a wearer sees and hears, including messages, appointments, directions, photos, and live translation. Those are platform concepts, not confirmed specifications for the Magic Leap design. Google’s May 2025 post named Gentle Monster and Warby Parker as eyewear partners and said Kering Eyewear could be a future partner.
At Google I/O 2026, Google described two broad categories of intelligent eyewear: audio glasses for spoken assistance and display glasses that present information visually. Its announcement said audio glasses were coming later in fall and previewed designs associated with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. It did not identify those designs as the Magic Leap prototype. Google’s I/O 2026 announcement is about wider platform and partner plans, not confirmation that this specific reference design will ship.

Google’s Android XR overview says the eyewear concepts are in development and may change. Accordingly, platform capabilities and partner announcements should not be treated as a final feature list or availability update for the Magic Leap prototype.

In a July 9, 2026 update, Magic Leap described its strategy as partner-first: moving away from building first-party devices and toward supplying waveguide technology and device-integration expertise to companies developing AI display glasses. That is Magic Leap’s stated direction, not a promise that the October prototype will become a consumer product. The company’s strategy update also attributes a 44.4% increase in total XR device shipments in 2025 to IDC. Magic Leap interprets that increase as evidence that consumers will adopt AI wearables if they are useful, stylish, and affordable; the shipment figure alone does not establish that conclusion.
