Core Devices’ new $225 watch is a minimalist smartwatch with a 1.5-inch, 64-color e-paper touchscreen, four physical buttons, open-source PebbleOS and a battery target of up to 30 days. Pebble’s July 2026 update reported a current median closer to 21 days, so “month-long” is a target rather than a guarantee.
Important naming note: the 2016 Pebble Time 2 was canceled. The watch sold today under the same name is a new 2026 revival.
What is the new Pebble Time 2?
The current Pebble Time 2 is a new smartwatch from Core Devices, designed in the spirit of the Pebble Time Steel rather than built from unfinished 2016 inventory. It focuses on an always-visible low-power display, physical controls, notifications and a community-driven software platform instead of trying to duplicate the feature set of an Apple Watch or Wear OS device.
The official product page lists a price of $225. On August 18, 2026, it showed the watch as in stock and said orders ship within 48 hours; availability and shipping estimates can change. See the current listing at repebble.com/watch.

- FREE MAPS WITH TURN DIRECTIONS: Stay on-track with free downloadable maps, and get turn-by-turn guidance on-screen or via your Bluetooth headphones. Enjoy ski maps for global resorts, including guidance for cable cars, slopes, and more.
- FASTER AND MORE ACCURATE GPS TRACKING: 5 satellite positioning systems ensure fast GPS connection and accurate positioning whenever you're out running, walking, cycling or hiking.
The watch works with both iPhone and Android through a companion app. Its core appeal is simple: glance at the time without raising your wrist, receive basic notifications, use buttons for navigation and go weeks between charges.
Why the 2016 Pebble Time 2 never shipped
Pebble announced the original Pebble 2, Time 2 and Pebble Core in a 2016 Kickstarter campaign. After Fitbit acquired Pebble’s assets and intellectual property, Pebble’s hardware business shut down. The remaining products, including the original Time 2, never entered final production, and eligible backers were automatically refunded for unfulfilled rewards. The historical announcement is documented at Pebble’s legacy support page.
Core Devices’ current watch is therefore a newly designed product, not a recovered batch of canceled Kickstarter watches.

Display and design: deliberately low-power, not OLED-smooth
Pebble Time 2 uses a 1.5-inch, 200 × 228-pixel, 64-color e-paper touchscreen at approximately 202 DPI. It has four physical buttons, an RGB LED backlight and optically bonded front glass. The case combines stainless steel and polycarbonate; the front lens uses Gorilla Glass. Full specifications are listed at the official product page.

“E-paper” is the manufacturer’s term. It should not automatically be treated as the same display technology used in an e-reader. In practical use, the panel is designed to remain visible with very little power, while the backlight handles dark conditions.

- Quick-release snap-on installation,The snap-on design allows for easy installation and removal of the protective case, providing effective protection for your smartwatch in everyday use without the need for complicated tools
- Bezel protection design,The bezel-style protective case surrounds the edge of the watch face, effectively reducing scratches, wear, and minor impacts to the watch surface during daily use, travel, and outdoor activities
- Slim and lightweight protective case,The slim and lightweight design provides extra protection while ensuring comfortable wear, suitable for work, commuting, and daily use
- Easy operation of watch functions,The design retains access to buttons and the display screen, allowing users to easily operate the smartwatch without removing the protective case
- 3D Printing Instructions,The product is manufactured using 3D printing technology; slight surface texture may be present Important Note,This is a third-party replacement part, Brand names are used only to indicate Compatible with Pebble, This product is not affiliated with or endorsed by any brand owner
What the display does well
- Shows the time continuously without a wrist-raise gesture.
- Uses far less power than an always-on OLED watch.
- Remains easy to read in daylight.
- Creates a muted, paper-like appearance that is less visually demanding than a bright OLED interface.
Where it compromises
- Colors are limited compared with OLED.
- Refreshes and animations are less fluid.
- The backlight is needed in darkness.
- It is not suited to rich maps, photo-heavy interfaces or high-frame-rate graphics.
The result is intentionally retro-minimalist rather than a high-resolution luxury display. That is central to the watch’s identity, not a hidden flaw.

Battery life: what “month-long” really means
Pebble targets approximately four weeks, or 30 days, but that number is an estimate based on usage assumptions. In its July 2026 update, the company reported a current median battery life of approximately 21 days. That is the most useful real-world figure the company has published so far, and it should not be replaced with an unconditional “lasts a month” claim. See the July 2026 update.
| Published figure | How to interpret it |
|---|---|
| Up to 30 days | Manufacturer estimate and four-week target under suitable usage conditions. |
| About 21 days | Current median reported by Pebble in July 2026. |
| Under three days | An unusually high-consumption fault condition reported on some units, not normal expected endurance. |
Battery life falls with frequent RGB backlight use, animated or per-second watch faces, heavy vibration, continuous health tracking and apps that refresh the display often. Early firmware can also affect consumption.
Pebble said some watches were lasting fewer than three days because of unusually high power consumption. At the time of its July update, it had replaced 330 watches out of more than 19,000 in the field and had tightened factory power-consumption testing.
What to do if your watch lasts only a few days
- Switch to a static watch face and reduce animation or per-second updates.
- Use less backlight and select Settings → Display → Backlight to enable Battery Saver mode.
- Reduce demanding health features where the software allows it.
- Update PebbleOS and the Pebble mobile app.
- Submit a bug report through the Pebble app.
- Contact Pebble support. The July update says affected units were being replaced, even when the problem appeared outside the stated warranty period.
What it can do—and what it cannot
Core functions
- Display the time continuously.
- Show smartphone notifications.
- Run watch faces and watch apps.
- Track steps, sleep and heart rate.
- Use the compass and motion sensors.
- Provide alarms, timers and basic utilities.
- Support both button and touchscreen interaction.
- Work with iPhone and Android companion apps.
Hardware that is still software-dependent
The watch includes two microphones, a waterproof speaker and a new linear-resonant vibration actuator. Core Devices says the second microphone is intended for future ambient-noise cancellation, while speaker APIs and app support are still developing. Hardware presence does not mean every related feature is fully enabled in the initial software experience.

The watch cannot be used for phone calls. There is no official specification for cellular service or built-in GPS, and the product should not be treated as an ECG or medical-monitoring device. An onboard SpO2 sensor exists, but Core Devices said it was not being used by the algorithm in its published review.
PebbleOS and the app ecosystem
Pebble Time 2 runs PebbleOS, and PebbleOS plus the mobile app are open source. The broader Pebble ecosystem contains more than 10,000 watch faces and apps, while Pebble’s July 2026 update said more than 2,000 apps and watch faces had already been listed specifically for Time 2 and Round 2. The company’s platform and developer resources are available at repebble.com.

Those figures describe the wider ecosystem, not 10,000 newly optimized Time 2 applications. Community software is a major advantage for variety and experimentation, but quality, maintenance, permissions and compatibility vary. Open-source software also does not guarantee that replacement displays, batteries or commercial hardware support will remain available indefinitely.
Compatibility and iPhone notification limits
Time 2 supports iPhone and Android through the Pebble app. Android users generally get the more flexible notification environment, while iOS imposes platform restrictions on third-party watches. Pebble explicitly warns that third-party watches cannot send replies to iPhone notifications. If replying from your wrist is essential, this is not an Apple Watch replacement.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Water resistance, durability and warranty
The official specification rates the watch at 30 meters of water resistance. Pebble says normal rain, handwashing, showers, baths and brief dunking are acceptable, but recommends avoiding hot water and prolonged submersion. That rating does not make Time 2 a dive watch or a swimming computer. Hot tubs, saunas and very hot water are especially poor use cases, and an older or damaged seal may no longer provide its original resistance.

The stainless-steel case and Gorilla Glass are intended for everyday wear but are not scratch- or impact-proof. The official warranty covers manufacturing defects for only 30 days after receipt, and the company says it does not offer buyer’s-remorse refunds. At $225, that short warranty should be part of the buying decision, not an afterthought.
Price, shipping and ownership considerations
The official store price observed on August 18, 2026 was $225, with stock available and a stated 48-hour shipping window. Buyers outside the seller’s base country may owe duties, tariffs, VAT or handling charges. Core Devices published a U.S. tariff estimate of approximately $12 per Time 2 at the time of its mass-production update; that is a dated estimate, not a guaranteed checkout total. Manufacturing and shipping details are explained at Core Devices’ production update.
Core Devices is a small team rather than a large consumer-electronics company. That helps explain the open development model and enthusiast focus, but it also means more uncertainty around support capacity, replacement parts and long-term hardware availability.
Who should buy Pebble Time 2?
- Former Pebble owners who want the original low-distraction philosophy in a current product.
- Users who value multi-week battery life and an always-visible display.
- People who prefer physical buttons over gesture-heavy navigation.
- iPhone or Android users who mainly need notifications, alarms and basic tracking.
- Buyers interested in open-source software and community watch faces.
Who should skip it?
- Runners, cyclists, swimmers and triathletes who need built-in GPS and detailed training metrics.
- Users seeking cellular service, phone calls, rich maps or advanced voice assistants.
- Anyone who requires ECG, medical monitoring or extensive health analysis.
- iPhone users who depend on reliable notification replies.
- Buyers who expect a one-year warranty, extensive repair infrastructure or guaranteed parts availability.
- Anyone who prioritizes bright, fluid OLED graphics and high-refresh animations.
How it compares with alternatives
| Alternative | What it offers | Best for | Main trade-off versus Time 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pebble Round 2 ($199) | 1.3-inch, 64-color round e-paper display; stainless-steel frame; estimated 10–14-day battery; no listed heart-rate monitor. | Buyers who prefer a round design. | Shorter battery estimate and no listed heart-rate sensor. |
| Pebble 2 Duo ($149; listed sold out) | 1.2-inch black-and-white e-paper display; polycarbonate case; barometer and compass; estimated 10–14-day battery. | Those wanting the simplest, least expensive Pebble-style watch. | No touchscreen listed, monochrome display and limited availability. |
| Garmin | GPS, sports profiles, training metrics and a stronger fitness focus. | Serious runners, cyclists and outdoor athletes. | More complex and less minimalist; no e-paper PebbleOS experience. |
| Apple Watch | Deep iPhone integration, replies, calls, payments, apps and advanced health features. | iPhone users wanting a full-featured smartwatch. | Much shorter battery life and no Android support. |
| Wear OS watches | Android integration, maps, voice controls, payments and rich apps. | Android users seeking a conventional smartwatch. | OLED displays and substantially more frequent charging. |
Verdict: a focused Pebble revival, not a cheaper Apple Watch
Pebble Time 2 succeeds by doing less. Its e-paper screen stays visible, buttons make routine actions predictable and PebbleOS provides a large community ecosystem without demanding daily charging. The trade-offs are just as clear: the 30-day figure is a target rather than a universal result, the July 2026 median was about 21 days, several hardware capabilities are still software-dependent, and the warranty lasts only 30 days.
Choose it if your priority is a lightweight, low-distraction notification watch with weeks of endurance and community software. Choose Garmin for serious fitness, Apple Watch for deep iPhone integration, or Wear OS for Android apps and services. Pebble Time 2 is compelling precisely as a focused enthusiast smartwatch—not as a replacement for every modern wearable.
