Meta’s v21 software update introduced two features for its AI glasses: Conversation Focus, which amplifies the voice of the person you are speaking with, and a Spotify integration that can suggest music based on what the glasses see. Meta announced them on December 16, 2025, with an initial gradual rollout through its Early Access Program—not an immediate release to every owner. Meta’s announcement does not establish that both features are now available to every compatible owner in every market.
What the two features do
The update adds one feature for listening to nearby speech and another for choosing music with visual context. They serve different purposes, and neither should be treated as a guarantee of better hearing or perfectly accurate recommendations.
Conversation Focus amplifies a speaker’s voice
Conversation Focus is an audio-enhancement mode intended for noisy places such as restaurants, trains, or concerts. Meta says it amplifies the voice of the person the wearer is talking to through the glasses’ open-ear speakers. The wearer can adjust the amplification by swiping on the right temple or using device settings. Meta’s description does not characterize it as active noise cancellation or hearing correction.
Because the speakers are open-ear, environmental sound is not completely blocked. Treat the feature as a way to make a conversation easier to hear, not as a hearing aid or a promise that speech will be clear in every setting. As a practical limitation, distance, a speaker facing away, several people talking at once, or very loud surroundings may make the conversation harder to follow; Meta’s announcement does not provide performance measurements for those conditions. Amplification may also feel too loud in an already noisy place, so adjust it to a comfortable level.

Spotify matching uses both the view and listening preferences
Meta’s published voice command is, “Hey Meta, play a song to match this view.” Meta says the glasses use visual context together with Spotify personalization to produce a playlist or music selection. Its examples include looking at an album cover or a holiday scene. This is visual music discovery—not simply a request to play a known track, and not a guarantee that the system will identify every object, scene, or mood correctly. The result also draws on Spotify personalization, so it is not based on the view alone.
Which glasses and regions were named at launch?
Meta’s announcement specifically names Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta HSTN glasses. It does not confirm that every Meta-branded model supports both features. Meta’s current catalog lists multiple product families, but a product listing alone does not establish v21 feature eligibility for a particular model. These are the launch conditions reported in Meta’s December 16, 2025 announcement. The announcement page was updated January 8, 2026, with revised instructions to enroll through device settings in the Meta AI app. It does not verify the rollout status for every owner as of September 2026.
How to check for Early Access and the update
- Open the Meta AI app and select the glasses’ device settings.
- Look there for the Early Access Program enrollment option. Meta’s Early Access page may indicate that the program is unavailable in your region.
- Install any available glasses software updates, then reopen the app and check for Conversation Focus or Spotify-related controls.
- If Conversation Focus is available, try its amplification control using the right temple or device settings. If Spotify matching is available, try Meta’s published English command: “Hey Meta, play a song to match this view.”
Meta has not published a universal menu-by-menu path, and labels can vary by app version. Enrollment also does not guarantee that a feature will appear immediately: access may depend on rollout timing, region, language, account, model, and software. A missing control alone does not prove the glasses are incompatible.

If a feature is missing or does not work
- No feature control: Check the glasses’ software, the Meta AI app, device settings, exact model, region, and Early Access enrollment. Availability may be staged, or the program may not be offered for your account or market.
- Spotify command gets no response: Check that the glasses are connected, use the published wake phrase and English command, and verify that Spotify integration is available to your account and region. The announcement does not give a complete account-eligibility checklist.
- The music seems unrelated to the view: Meta describes a recommendation informed by the scene and Spotify personalization, not guaranteed recognition or a perfectly matched song. Try a clearer view or a different request, but do not expect a particular result.
- Conversation Focus does not help enough: Adjust amplification and, where practical, move closer to the person speaking. Several competing voices or extreme noise can remain difficult; Meta does not publish a performance guarantee for those settings.
- One pair has a feature and another does not: Verify each pair’s model, software, and rollout eligibility separately rather than assuming a defect or universal model support.
Is it worth buying glasses for these features?
For current owners of a named model, the sensible first step is to check for the update and try the features if they appear. Neither is, by itself, a strong reason to replace a working pair: access is not confirmed for every owner, and the Spotify feature is most relevant to people who use Spotify and want hands-free, context-aware discovery.
- Conversation Focus may matter more if you often use open-ear audio in busy environments and want to try speech amplification. It is not a substitute for clinical hearing support or noise-cancelling headphones.
- Spotify matching may appeal if you already use Spotify, listen in English, and are comfortable with an AI recommendation that may not fit every scene.
- Check eligibility before buying if a particular feature is essential. Confirm your country, language, phone and Meta AI app requirements, Spotify access where relevant, exact glasses model, and willingness to use a staged software rollout.
- Consider refurbished hardware cautiously if price matters, but verify the exact generation and feature eligibility; refurbished does not mean equivalent to a newer model. Privacy and everyday use
Conversation Focus is described as an audio feature, but the glasses are still camera- and microphone-equipped devices. Follow local recording and consent rules and do not present the glasses as covert recording equipment. The visible capture LED relates to taking photos or videos; it should not be treated as proof that every audio-processing function is recording. Meta’s feature announcement does not provide enough detail to make claims about how Conversation Focus processes, stores, or transmits voice data.
