Prada smart glasses have not been officially announced. A June 2025 report said Meta and eyewear maker EssilorLuxottica were working on AI glasses associated with Prada and Oakley, but it supplied no confirmed product name, design, features, price or release date. Meta’s later launches show the broader strategy is real: build AI glasses around established eyewear brands and styles. Prada remains a reported possibility, not a product you can buy.
What was reported about Prada smart glasses?
CNBC reported in June 2025 that Meta and EssilorLuxottica were developing AI glasses associated with Oakley and Prada. The report cast Oakley as the performance-oriented option and Prada as a fashion and luxury extension. Secondary coverage relayed the claim, but neither it nor Meta’s subsequent product announcements establish that Prada approved or publicly endorsed a specific pair of glasses. Android Headlines’ summary and Techmeme’s aggregation of the CNBC report describe the reported plans.
As of August 18, 2026, no official Meta, EssilorLuxottica or Prada announcement in the available record confirms a Prada model, preorder or retail launch. There is also no verified public information about its frame design, camera, display, AI functions, price or timing. Treat any precise product specification or launch date attached to the rumor as unconfirmed.
Why Prada would matter to Meta
Smart glasses have a challenge ordinary electronics do not: people wear them on their faces, in public, where style and social comfort matter as much as technical capability. A fashion label could make a camera-and-AI device feel more like eyewear and less like a conspicuous gadget. Prada could also give Meta a route toward customers who would not choose a tech-forward frame, and potentially create a premium rung above mainstream models.

That is strategic analysis, not a confirmed statement of Prada’s plans. A luxury name would not by itself guarantee luxury materials, exclusive design, better service or more capable AI. Those would need to show up in the product.
Meta’s eyewear strategy runs through EssilorLuxottica
The reported Prada project is best understood in the context of Meta’s existing partnership with EssilorLuxottica, the eyewear group behind brands and retail capabilities that span much of the industry. Meta contributes the software, AI, electronics and connected services; EssilorLuxottica brings eyewear design and manufacturing expertise, brand reach and optical distribution. Ray-Ban, Oakley and, reportedly, Prada would give consumers distinct identities and design languages around a shared technology platform. Prada is not owned by Meta, and there is no evidence that Prada itself would manufacture Meta’s electronics.

Meta has publicly described Oakley Meta as an expansion of its relationship with EssilorLuxottica. Meta’s Oakley announcement is evidence of the partnership structure; it is not confirmation of Prada glasses.

Meta Glasses and the Kylie Jenner collaboration show the company is already expanding beyond one legacy eyewear label. They do not prove that Prada is involved. Meta’s May 2026 comparison also includes regional Ray-Ban Meta specifications for Japan; figures such as camera resolution, battery life and price in that announcement should not automatically be generalized to other markets.
AI glasses are not all augmented-reality glasses
Most of the confirmed Meta glasses above are displayless. They are designed around voice-operated AI, camera-based questions, photos and video, calls, music, messaging and other hands-free functions—not visual overlays in the lens. The Meta Ray-Ban Display is a different tier: it puts visual information in the lens and adds the Neural Band for gestures.

A hypothetical Prada model could use a displayless platform, a display-equipped design or another future variant. There is no verified public evidence identifying which, if any, Prada product was contemplated. Do not assume that the word “AI” means a heads-up display or full augmented reality.

If the reported project became a product, plausible approaches include a premium displayless frame built on Meta’s existing AI platform, a limited-edition luxury design, or a more ambitious display model. Those are scenarios, not confirmed plans. A Prada-branded frame could bring fashion recognition and boutique appeal, but the price would bring higher expectations for fit, materials, craftsmanship, repair and after-sales support. Frequent software changes and rapid technology obsolescence may also sit uneasily with luxury eyewear meant to last.

- Fashion credibility is not utility. A recognizable label cannot make voice commands work reliably in noise, improve battery life or ensure an AI answer is correct.
- Privacy is social as well as technical. A recording indicator can signal camera use, but it does not settle whether people nearby are comfortable being recorded. A subtler luxury frame could make a camera less obvious, which may sharpen rather than reduce that concern.
- Everyday use has practical requirements. Buyers need to consider charging, phone and internet dependence, a Meta account and companion app, frame fit, prescription availability, durability and feature availability by country and language.
- Use limits still matter. Heavy recording, calls or AI use can reduce battery life; firmware and app updates can change behavior; and advertised features may roll out gradually. Prescription ordering and lens options vary by frame, region and optician.
For camera-equipped glasses, follow local recording laws, workplace and venue rules, and ordinary privacy expectations. Bathrooms, changing rooms, medical settings, schools, secure facilities and private workplaces deserve particular caution. Laws and policies vary by jurisdiction; a visible indicator is not a substitute for consent where it is expected.
What to consider if you want glasses now
There is no verified Prada product to preorder or compare. Current Meta choices map to different needs:
- Everyday social capture, calls and AI: Ray-Ban Meta is the established mainstream option; check the generation and frame configuration because prices and features differ.
- Sportier styling and light outdoor use: Oakley Meta HSTN adds IPX4 water resistance and an athletic design.
- More intense training: Meta positions Oakley Meta Vanguard for performance use, including Garmin and Strava integration.
- A visual display: Meta Ray-Ban Display is the documented option with an in-lens display, at a substantially higher starting price and with the Neural Band included.
- Frame variety and prescription compatibility: Meta Glasses offers multiple frame families and stated prescription compatibility, without a Prada label.
If the appeal is luxury eyewear rather than camera features, conventional Prada or Ray-Ban glasses avoid charging, microphones, cameras and connected-account requirements. If the priority is listening and calls, earbuds avoid wearing a camera on your face. The right choice depends on whether the smart functions are useful enough to justify those trade-offs.
