Rolex also publishes the 124060’s calibre and power reserve; the current Omega collection page does not provide an equivalent movement comparison. Which is better depends on the exact reference and what you value—not on the depth rating alone.
Which watches are being compared?
“Planet Ocean 600M” covers multiple generations and references, so this comparison uses Omega’s current fourth-generation collection as described on its Hong Kong collection page. Omega says the new generation returns to the original 2005 size of 42 mm. The page lists different configurations; materials and strap or bracelet details therefore depend on the exact reference. Omega’s current Planet Ocean collection
The Rolex side is the no-date Submariner reference 124060, not a Submariner Date. Date models, including the 126610LN, are distinct references with their own specifications. Keeping the comparison tied to these named models avoids mixing current specifications with older Planet Ocean generations or a different Submariner variant.
How do their specifications compare?
| Specification | Current Omega Planet Ocean 600M | Rolex Submariner 124060 |
|---|---|---|
| Model basis | Fourth-generation collection; exact reference depends on configuration (Omega, current collection page). | No-date reference 124060 (Rolex, model specification page). |
| Case diameter | 42 mm (Omega, current collection page). | 41 mm (Rolex, model specification page). |
| Water-resistance rating | 600 m (Omega, current collection page). | 300 m (Rolex, model specification page). |
| Movement | Not stated on the current collection page; check the exact reference’s specifications. | Calibre 3230 (Rolex, model specification page). |
| Power reserve | Not stated on the current collection page for the current 42 mm generation. | Approximately 70 hours (Rolex, model specification page). |
| Date display | Configuration-dependent; verify the exact Planet Ocean reference. | No date display (Rolex, model specification page). |
| Current comparable retail price and stock | Not established; confirm with Omega for your region and exact reference. | Not established; confirm with an official Rolex retailer for your region and exact reference. |
Is the Planet Ocean bigger than the Submariner?
By nominal case diameter, yes: Omega lists the current Planet Ocean at 42 mm, one millimetre larger than the 41 mm Submariner 124060. That figure alone cannot tell you which will feel larger or fit better. Case thickness, lug-to-lug length, bracelet or strap, and your wrist all matter; compare the exact references in person or against reliable fit measurements before deciding.

How deep can each watch go?
Omega rates the Planet Ocean 600M to 600 m, while Rolex rates the Submariner 124060 to 300 m. These are manufacturer water-resistance ratings, not instructions to dive to those depths. Safe diving depends on training, conditions, and suitable equipment; a watch’s rating does not replace those limits.
What can be compared about their movements?
Rolex identifies calibre 3230 in the 124060, gives an approximately 70-hour power reserve, and states an accuracy specification of −2/+2 seconds per day after casing. Those are Rolex’s published specifications, not results from an independent head-to-head test. The current Omega collection page establishes the generation and case size but does not state the movement or reserve for the current 42 mm model. Do not assume specifications from an older Planet Ocean generation carry over; consult the exact reference’s product information.

How do their histories differ?
Omega dates the Planet Ocean collection to 2005; its 2025 announcement presents the latest generation as a complete transformation. That is the maker’s description of its redesign, not an independent ranking of the watch. Swatch Group’s 2025 announcement
Rolex says the Submariner launched in 1953 as its first divers’ wristwatch waterproof to 100 metres (330 feet), and that the Submariner Date was unveiled in 1969. Those are Rolex’s historical claims. Rolex Submariner history

Which one should you choose?
- Choose the Planet Ocean 600M if the current collection’s 42 mm size, 600 m rating, or a particular Omega configuration best matches your preferences. Confirm the exact reference for its materials, display, movement, and bracelet or strap.
- Choose the Submariner 124060 if you want the specifically documented no-date, 41 mm Rolex with calibre 3230 and an approximately 70-hour reserve.
- Compare fit rather than diameter alone if comfort is decisive. The published diameters do not establish how either watch will sit on your wrist.
- Check price and availability locally before treating either as the better value. A like-for-like current price or stock comparison is not established here, and configuration and market can affect what is offered. Rolex says only official Rolex retailers are allowed to sell and maintain Rolex watches; use its official retailer channel when checking a new watch.
There is no supported basis here for declaring one more reliable or better at resale: no independent comparative reliability test or resale analysis is available. The defensible choice is between the exact specifications, fit, configuration, and local terms you can verify.
