OnePlus Watch 2: How Its Dual Chipsets Work With Wear OS

The OnePlus Watch 2 uses a low-power BES 2700 and a Snapdragon W5 for different tasks. Here’s how Wear OS coordinates them—and what OnePlus’s battery estimates really mean.

The OnePlus Watch 2 pairs a Snapdragon W5 processor for demanding Wear OS tasks with a low-power BES 2700 chip for background work. Google’s Wear OS hybrid interface coordinates the two, letting the higher-power processor sleep when it is not needed. OnePlus says this design supports up to 100 hours in a defined Smart Mode scenario, but that figure is a manufacturer estimate—not a guaranteed runtime.

What the OnePlus Watch 2’s two chipsets do

OnePlus announced the Watch 2 on February 26, 2024, describing it as a Wear OS smartwatch built around two processors. Its component-level explanation assigns different jobs to each chip: the BES 2700 efficiency chipset runs RTOS and handles background activity and simple tasks, while the Snapdragon W5 runs Wear OS and wakes for more intensive work, including Google apps. OnePlus’s launch announcement and its US product page describe the arrangement.

  • BES 2700: the low-power microcontroller for background and simpler functions.
  • Snapdragon W5: the application processor for Wear OS and more demanding tasks.

OnePlus’s US specifications identify the Snapdragon component as Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 and the MCU as BES2700BP. Qualcomm’s device finder uses the broader platform label Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 for the OnePlus Watch 2; for the chip-by-chip roles described here, OnePlus’s own specifications are the clearest reference. How Wear OS coordinates the processors

Wear OS’s hybrid interface provides the handoff between the application processor (AP) and the microcontroller (MCU). Google says the AP can be suspended when it is not needed, while the MCU handles appropriate low-power work such as sensor processing and bridged notifications. That can reduce power use without requiring the AP to stay active for every task. Google’s Android Developers explanation describes the platform design.

This does not mean that every app, watch face or operation runs on the BES chip. The processors have different capabilities, and more demanding work can wake the Snapdragon W5. The practical benefit depends on what the watch is doing and which features are enabled.

OnePlus Watch 2 battery claims and their assumptions

OnePlus’s February 2024 launch announcement advertised a 500 mAh battery and up to 100 hours of regular use in Smart Mode, up to 48 hours with heavy use, and a full charge in 60 minutes using 7.5 W VOOC fast charging. Its US specification page also lists up to 12 days in Power Saver Mode and says 10 minutes of charging can provide a day’s power. These are OnePlus claims, not independent test results; the modes use different settings and activity assumptions. Launch announcement; US specifications.

Mode or claim OnePlus figure Stated scenario or qualification
Smart Mode Up to 100 hours OnePlus’s model uses an official supported watch face, Always-On Display off, default health monitoring, 14.2 hours per day of Bluetooth connection, 6.5 hours of sleep monitoring, 30 minutes of outdoor running, plus specified daily notifications, calls, screen use, music and alarms.
Heavy Smart Mode Up to 48 hours OnePlus’s model includes a third-party watch face, Always-On Display on, 30 minutes of GPS outdoor running, 15 minutes of Maps navigation, more notifications and screen use, and other specified daily activity. OnePlus says a third-party face deactivates Dual-Engine Architecture, leaving the Snapdragon W5 active.
Power Saver Mode Up to 12 days OnePlus’s separate model includes Bluetooth connected all day, 90 minutes of outdoor exercise per week, sleep detection, notifications, calls and other specified use. In this mode, OnePlus says the BES 2700 handles core functions while the Snapdragon W5 is shut down.
Charging 60 minutes to 100%; 10 minutes for a stated day’s power Manufacturer claims on OnePlus’s US specifications page; actual results can vary with setup and use.

The third-party-face condition matters when interpreting the heavy-use estimate: in OnePlus’s stated scenario, that face turns off the dual-engine arrangement. A watch face is therefore not just a cosmetic setting in this battery model; it can affect which processor remains active.

Wear OS version: launch software and later reports

The Watch 2 launched with Wear OS 4, which OnePlus called the latest version at launch in February 2024. OnePlus’s US specifications page continues to list “Wear OS 4 + RTOS.” Later evidence indicates that some Watch 2 users received Wear OS 5: a OnePlus Community user posted about an upgrade on December 30, 2025, and Android Central reported on January 13, 2026, that the update had reached some users. Those reports do not establish a universal rollout or the version installed on every device or in every region. Fitness and health features

At launch, OnePlus said its OHealth app supported more than 100 sports tracking modes, highlighting badminton swing strength and speed and running metrics such as ground-contact time, ground balance and VO2 max. The company also advertised sleep tracking and stress monitoring based on heart-rate variability. These are feature descriptions, not evidence that the watch diagnoses conditions or that its measurements have clinical accuracy. OnePlus launch announcement.

What to compare before choosing a smartwatch

The dual-chip design explains how the Watch 2 tries to balance Wear OS capability and power use, but its headline runtime figures cannot establish how it compares with another watch under different test conditions. For a like-for-like comparison, consider:
