Leaked renders published by TechRadar on February 10, 2025 showed the OnePlus Watch 3 with an Apple Watch-style crown on its right side. OnePlus confirmed the design on February 18 and, importantly, confirmed that the crown actually rotates to navigate software. The render was a pre-launch report, not proof of every specification, but the central leak was accurate.
What the leaked render showed
TechRadar’s pre-launch images depicted a round, premium-looking watch with a large display, a visible bezel and two controls on the right side: an upper crown and a lower button. The report presented them as leaked renders, not official OnePlus marketing images. They indicated the intended exterior design, but renders cannot establish final software, battery results, sensor behavior or regional health approvals. See the original report at TechRadar.
The retail product retained that basic layout. OnePlus lists a stainless-steel case, titanium-alloy bezel, sapphire crystal and Emerald Titanium and Obsidian Titanium finishes on the main model. The official specifications are on the OnePlus Watch 3 product page.
What the rotating crown actually does
The important detail is software control, not merely a knob that turns. OnePlus confirmed the Watch 3 crown is functional. Rotating it scrolls through menus, notifications and other interface screens; pressing it performs the crown’s button action. Independent reviews also reported haptic feedback while turning it, giving each step a tactile response. OnePlus’s announcement confirms the feature, while WIRED’s review describes the scrolling and haptics.

Why rotation is useful
- It allows more precise scrolling than repeated swipes through long notifications or settings.
- It can be easier to use when fingers are wet, sweaty or partly covering the screen.
- Haptic clicks make navigation deliberate and can help users who dislike touchscreen gestures.
A crown does not improve health measurements by itself, and it is less important if you mainly use workout shortcuts, voice commands or direct taps.
How it differs from the OnePlus Watch 2
The Watch 2 had a crown-like control that could physically rotate, but contemporary coverage found that rotation did not scroll the interface. The Watch 3 turns that cosmetic resemblance into a genuine navigation control. 9to5Google’s report documented the difference. That is why the render mattered: it previewed a usability change, not just another button.
Specifications confirmed after launch
The final watch launched with the following headline features. Battery figures are OnePlus estimates, not a universal runtime guarantee.

| Feature | Confirmed detail |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Wear OS 5 at launch |
| Display | 1.5-inch LTPO display |
| Cover material | Sapphire crystal |
| Construction | Stainless-steel case with titanium-alloy bezel |
| Navigation | Functional rotating crown plus lower side button |
| Positioning | Dual-frequency GPS |

| Fast charging claim | About one day of use from approximately 10 minutes of charging |
| Health feature | 60-second Health Check-In covering multiple wellness metrics |
OnePlus’s launch announcement supplies the software, GPS, sports and battery claims. The five-day figure is the more relevant estimate for ordinary smartwatch use; 16 days requires power-saver mode, with reduced functionality. Actual endurance changes with display settings, continuous health monitoring, GPS workouts, calls, notifications and power mode. WIRED regarded battery life as a major strength, but independent testing should not be confused with the manufacturer’s estimates.

The 60-second Health Check-In combines measurements such as heart rate, blood oxygen, vascular health, wrist temperature, sleep and physical- and mental-wellbeing indicators. OnePlus positions these functions for general wellness and fitness, not diagnosis or treatment. They should not be treated as a medical device.
ECG availability is region-dependent. WIRED reported that the ECG function was unavailable to customers in the United States and Canada at launch because of certification issues. Hardware presence therefore does not guarantee that every health feature is enabled in every country; check current regional documentation before buying.

Phone compatibility and size choices
The Watch 3 uses Wear OS and requires a supported Android phone with the OHealth companion app. It is not an iPhone-compatible alternative to Apple Watch. OnePlus notes that support and health functions can vary by handset and region, so verify compatibility for your exact phone.
The original render and launch model refer to the larger watch. OnePlus later introduced a separate 43mm version in the United States and Canada. Android Central reported its July 8, 2025 launch at a historical $299.99 price; it is intended for people who find the main case too large, not a revision of the original render. See Android Central’s hands-on.
Price and timeline
- February 10, 2025: TechRadar published the leaked render and reported the rotating crown.
- February 18, 2025: OnePlus officially announced the Watch 3 and confirmed the crown’s function.
- February 25, 2025: North American open sales were initially scheduled, with US timing later reported as postponed to April.
- July 8, 2025: The separate 43mm model arrived in the US and Canada.
The original model’s US launch price was $329.99. That is a historical launch price, not a guaranteed current price in 2026; regional pricing, stock and promotions must be checked on the live OnePlus store listing.
Who should care about the crown?
- Upgrade candidates from Watch 2: The crown is a meaningful interaction upgrade because rotation now scrolls the interface.
- Android users wanting long endurance: The combination of Wear OS, dual-frequency GPS and the Smart Mode battery claim is more consequential than the crown alone.
- Small-wrist buyers: Compare the main model with the later 43mm variant.
- iPhone owners: This is not the right ecosystem choice; Apple Watch remains the Apple-native option.
- US and Canadian ECG buyers: Confirm local certification and availability before purchase.
The render was significant because it previewed the Watch 3’s clearest usability improvement. OnePlus subsequently delivered a real, haptic, software-enabled crown, while the watch’s broader value depends on Android compatibility, size, battery mode and region-specific health support.
