The Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1A-010 remains one of the most consequential modern stainless-steel sports watches, but buying one today is a condition-and-provenance decision rather than a normal retail purchase. It was discontinued after 2021, and auction evidence shows that exceptional, complete examples can command extraordinary prices without establishing a universal current market value.
What the 5711/1A-010 is
The 5711/1A-010 is the stainless-steel Nautilus with Patek Philippe’s blue-black gradated dial. The 5711 family returned in 2006 for the Nautilus 30th anniversary: the first blue-black version was the 5711/1A-001 (2006–2009), followed by the 5711/1A-010 from 2010.
Patek Philippe’s April 7, 2021 release states that 2021 was the final production year for the stainless-steel 5711/1A. The olive-green 5711/1A-014 replaced the -010, so a genuine -010 is a discontinued reference rather than a current-production model.
The design retains the Nautilus language established by the original Ref. 3700 in 1976: a rounded-octagonal bezel inspired by a ship’s porthole, an integrated steel bracelet and a horizontal embossed dial. The modern 5711 adds a three-piece case and a sapphire exhibition back.

Is it worth buying now?
It can be, if your priority is owning the specific blue-dial 5711 design and you are prepared to pay for verification and condition. Discontinuation creates scarcity, but it does not make every example equally desirable. Dial and hand originality, bracelet condition, polishing, completeness and a credible ownership history materially affect what a specialist or auction buyer will pay.
There is no authoritative October 2026 retail price or verified live-market median in the available records. Treat any asking price as an individual negotiation, not as a published value for every 5711/1A-010. A dated auction result is evidence of what one particular watch achieved under particular circumstances.

Case, bracelet and wearing brief
Sports-watch construction
The case and integrated bracelet are stainless steel, with a folding/deployant clasp on auction examples. The sapphire display back lets the owner see the automatic movement. Patek Philippe rates the Nautilus at 120 metres of water resistance.
That rating supports the reference’s everyday-sports-watch brief, but it is a manufacturer specification, not an independent dive or water-resistance test. A pre-owned watch should have its seals and pressure resistance assessed by a qualified service provider before aquatic use.

Why published dimensions differ
Catalogue dimensions are not always directly comparable because auction houses measure across different points. A circa-2020 Sotheby’s listing records 40 mm measured from 10 to 4 o’clock, while a circa-2010 listing records 42 mm measured from 9 to 3 o’clock.
| Record | Published measurement | Measurement convention |
|---|---|---|
| Sotheby’s, circa 2020 | 40 mm | 10–4 o’clock |
| Sotheby’s, circa 2010 | 42 mm | 9–3 o’clock |
Those figures describe different measuring methods, not necessarily a change in the case itself. Ask for the seller’s exact convention when comparing listings.

Finishing
Patek Philippe says, “For every watch, the manual work involved requires 55 individual finishing steps.” The statement describes the brand’s finishing process; it is not a timing, durability or comfort test.
324 S C versus 26-330 S C
The movement question is important, but the changeover was not a simple year cut-off in every surviving watch. Patek Philippe says the 26-330 S C powered the Ref. 5711 from 2019, while auction records also show circa-2019 examples fitted with the earlier 324 S C. Have the movement and its documentation examined rather than rejecting or accepting a watch solely by its approximate date.

| Movement | What the records establish | How to interpret it in a 5711 |
|---|---|---|
| Calibre 324 S C (also catalogued as 324 SC) | Automatic movement; auction records specify 29 jewels. | Found in earlier production and in at least some circa-2019 auction examples. |
| Calibre 26-330 S C | Automatic movement; a circa-2020 Sotheby’s lot specifies 30 jewels. Patek Philippe says it added a stop-seconds mechanism for one-second setting accuracy. | Associated with the later production phase; Patek Philippe dates its use in the Ref. 5711 from 2019. |
The stop-seconds feature allows the balance to be stopped while setting the time, making precise one-second setting easier. It does not by itself prove that a watch is authentic or that every component is original.

Phillips recorded a named result of $280,980 for a circa-2019 Ref. 5711/1A-010 against a $40,000–80,000 estimate. That lot included the Certificate of Origin, fitted presentation box, product literature and outer packaging.
| Source and approximate watch date | Result or estimate | Documented contents |
|---|---|---|
| Phillips, circa 2019 | Sold for $280,980; estimate $40,000–80,000 | Certificate of Origin, fitted presentation box, product literature and outer packaging |
| Sotheby’s, circa 2020 | Realized price not stated in the cited listing | Blue sunburst dial, 26-330 S C, 40 mm measurement, box, papers, three spare bracelet links and presentation packaging |
| Sotheby’s, circa 2010 | Realized price not stated in the cited listing | 324 automatic movement, 42 mm measurement, box, papers, instruction manual, additional links and packaging |
The Phillips sale is a lot-specific observation, not a market median or a guaranteed resale price. Completeness, originality, condition, venue, buyer demand and the date of sale all influence the result.
How to authenticate a 5711/1A-010
1. Confirm the reference and visible configuration
- Check that the watch is presented as a stainless-steel 5711/1A-010 with the blue-black gradated dial, horizontal embossing, integrated steel bracelet and sapphire display back.
- Compare the case, dial furniture, hands, bracelet and clasp as a complete set; a correct reference number does not make replacement parts original.
2. Inspect the movement
- Have a qualified specialist identify whether the movement is calibre 324 S C or 26-330 S C and record its identifying numbers and condition.
- Use the movement generation as a consistency check, not as a standalone authenticity test: auction records document both 324 S C and 26-330 S C around the 2019 transition.
3. Reconcile documents and provenance
- Prefer the Certificate of Origin, original presentation box, papers, product literature and packaging when available; record exactly which items are present rather than assuming “full set.”
- Ask for service invoices and a continuous ownership trail. A specialist should reconcile the watch and movement identifiers with the supplied documents and flag unexplained gaps.
- Box and papers increase confidence and can improve desirability, but they cannot authenticate a watch by themselves.
4. Obtain an independent examination before payment
For a high-value transaction, use an established Patek Philippe service channel or an independent specialist experienced with Nautilus references. Request a written condition report covering originality, polishing, bracelet stretch, clasp, dial and hands, movement, water-resistance status and any replaced parts. Do not rely on photographs or a seller’s description when the financial exposure is substantial.

| Decision factor | Questions to ask |
|---|---|
| Production era | Is it an early 5711/1A-010 from the 2010-onward period, or a later example near the 2019 movement transition? |
| Movement | Is it 324 S C or 26-330 S C, and has a specialist verified it? |
| Condition and originality | Are the dial, hands, bezel, case geometry, bracelet and clasp original and properly preserved? |
| Completeness | Are the Certificate of Origin, box, papers, spare links, manuals and packaging present and documented? |
| Service history | Are dated records available, and do they identify work performed or parts replaced? |
| Provenance | Can the seller explain ownership history and provide a credible chain of custody? |
| Price evidence | Is the asking price being compared with genuinely comparable, dated auction lots rather than a headline sale? |
Verdict
The 5711/1A-010 is a historically important, discontinued Nautilus with a distinctive blue-black dial, refined integrated-bracelet case and two documented movement generations. It is worth pursuing for a collector who values this exact configuration and can verify the watch independently. The safest purchase is not simply the cheapest or the newest: it is the most original, best-documented example whose price is defensible against comparable lot evidence.
