It is available in salmon (T142.464.16.332.00) and anthracite (T142.464.16.062.00), with an official US list price of $925 on Tissot’s 2026 product pages. Check the exact reference and regional page before buying, because published specifications differ on the date display and power reserve.
What the Heritage 1938 Automatic COSC is
Tissot positions the Heritage 1938 as a tribute to its history and to late-1930s design. The watch is deliberately time-only in the 2023 launch review, while Tissot’s current US salmon product page lists a date field. That conflict means the reference, market and page date matter more than a generic model name.
The design is an understated vintage revival: Arabic numerals, a railroad minute track, thin sword hands, a domed sapphire crystal, a polished bezel and an onion-shaped crown. These are design observations from Fratello Watches’ September 4, 2023 review, not independent durability or accuracy tests.

Case, crystal and wearing dimensions
- Diameter: 39 mm.
- Thickness: 11.10 mm on Tissot’s current US salmon page.
- Case: 316L stainless steel.
- Crystal: Sapphire with anti-reflective coating.
- Water resistance: 5 bar (50 m/165 ft).
- Lug width: 20 mm.
Those dimensions place the watch between traditional dress-watch compactness and modern everyday versatility. The leather strap and vintage proportions make it more naturally suited to office, smart-casual and formal use than to swimming or rough outdoor activity. A 50 m rating is a manufacturer specification, not a guarantee against every form of water exposure; leather is also a poor choice for repeated soaking.
Movement and the COSC certificate
What COSC certifies
Tissot says the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) tests a movement for 15 days, including accuracy, anti-magnetism and resistance to impact. COSC is therefore a formal chronometer certification applied after testing; it is not simply a marketing term for a vintage-looking dial.

Why the published reserve differs
Fratello’s 2023 launch review identifies a 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) ETA 2824-2 Chronomètre and a 38-hour reserve, and calls the watch time-only. Tissot’s current 2026 US salmon page instead lists a date and 42-hour reserve. The most defensible explanation is a reference, regional-page or specification revision. Before purchase, read the specification panel for the exact reference being sold and retain the seller’s written description.

Salmon or anthracite: which one fits?
Choose salmon when
- You want the lighter, more expressive interpretation of the 1930s design.
- The grey leather strap suits your wardrobe better than brown.
- You prefer a dial that stands out without adding complications.
Choose anthracite when
- You want the darker, more conservative version for business or evening wear.
- The brown leather strap works better with your shoes and belts.
- You prefer lower visual contrast and a quieter vintage effect.
The two references share the 39 mm steel case, sapphire crystal, COSC positioning and 50 m water-resistance platform. The meaningful choice is colour, strap pairing and the specification shown for your market.
Rank #3
- Case Size: 38.00 mm, Band Width: 25mm, Case Thickness: 10.98 mm
- Automatic movement, leather strap, Index dial type, Date
- Water-resistant up to a pressure of 10 bar (100 m / 300 ft): suitable for short periods of recreational swimming and showering, but no diving or snorkeling.
Daily practicality and strap options
Tissot specifies 20 mm lugs and an interchangeable quick-release system. That creates a straightforward accessory route: search for a correctly sized 20 mm Tissot Heritage 1938 strap, then confirm the spring-bar interface and lug shape before ordering. A second leather colour can change the watch’s character; a fabric or rubber option may be more practical around water, but its fit and appearance should be checked against the case.
The sapphire crystal, steel case, exhibition-back construction and 50 m rating form a sensible everyday specification set for a dress-oriented mechanical watch. None of those features establishes a measured accuracy result, long-term failure rate or service interval beyond the manufacturer’s own documentation.

- COSC Certified Chronometer
- Case Size: 39.00 mm, Band Width: 20 mm, Case Thickness: 10.98 mm

- Water-resistant up to a pressure of 10 bar (100 m / 330 ft): suitable for short periods of recreational swimming and showering, but no diving or snorkeling.
Is it worth $925?
It is a reasonable proposition if your priorities are a modest 39 mm size, classic styling and the reassurance of COSC certification. The value is less obvious if you want a modern sports watch, high water resistance, a bracelet, or independently documented accuracy and ownership costs.
Quick Recap
- Good fit: buyers who value historical styling, a Swiss automatic movement and chronometer certification in a restrained package.
- Less suitable: buyers who need a highly water-resistant daily tool, a metal bracelet from the outset, or a complication-free specification that is identical across every market.
- Before checkout: confirm the reference, date display, stated power reserve, warranty terms, seller authorization and return policy.
Buying checklist
- Match the listing to T142.464.16.332.00 (salmon) or T142.464.16.062.00 (anthracite).
- Verify whether that listing shows a date and whether it states 38 or 42 hours of reserve.
- Confirm the price currency and date; $925 is the current US list price shown by Tissot in 2026, while €875 was the launch price reported in 2023.
- Check that the watch includes the expected leather strap, 20 mm quick-release compatibility and warranty documentation.
- Use an authorized Tissot store or a seller whose authenticity, stock and warranty can be independently confirmed.
