The stainless-steel Patek Philippe Nautilus 5712/1A-001 was reportedly discontinued in early 2025, according to Sotheby’s. Patek Philippe’s current collection still includes the rose-gold 5712/1R-001, but that is a different reference—not a steel replacement. There is no announced successor in the cited sources, and neither the discontinuation nor recent market data can establish where the 5712/1A’s price will go next.
Which Nautilus 5712 was discontinued?
The reported discontinuation concerns the 5712/1A-001, the steel Nautilus with a bracelet. Sotheby’s identifies the reference as having been introduced in 2006 and says Patek Philippe discontinued it in early 2025. That timing is specialist reporting rather than a dated Patek Philippe announcement: the brand’s collection page provides current lineup context but does not itself announce the steel model’s discontinuation.
The 5712/1A combines a date, moon phases and power-reserve indication. Sotheby’s auction description also identifies a small-seconds display. Those functions are part of what distinguishes the 5712’s asymmetrical dial from simpler Nautilus references.
Is the 5712/1A still available from Patek Philippe?
The steel 5712/1A-001 is not presented as a current model in Patek Philippe’s collection. The brand does currently list the rose-gold 5712/1R-001, which shares the core date, moon-phase and power-reserve functions, along with small seconds. It is a sibling in the range, not the same steel watch or a like-for-like material configuration.

Patek Philippe lists the 5712/1R with a 40 mm case, 8.52 mm thickness, 30 m water resistance and caliber 240 PS IRM C LU, with a stated 38–48-hour power reserve. These are specifications for the rose-gold reference; they should not automatically be treated as specifications for the steel 5712/1A.
What replaced the steel 5712/1A?
No direct steel successor is announced in the cited sources. Patek Philippe says 2026 is the Nautilus collection’s 50th-anniversary year and presents anniversary limited editions, but that collection milestone is not an announcement that a steel 5712/1A replacement is coming. The 5712/1R remains the relevant current 5712 reference listed by the brand, but its rose-gold case and bracelet mean it does not replace the steel configuration in a strict sense.

What do current and historical market figures say?
WatchCharts Canada estimated the 5712/1A’s pre-owned market price at C$162,587 on September 29, 2026. The same source gives an approximate authorized-dealer retail-price reference of C$74,600 as of January 2025. These figures use different dates and measures: the pre-owned number is a modelled market estimate, not a guaranteed transaction price, an asking-price average or a forecast. They are Canadian-market references and should not be compared directly with prices in other currencies or regions.
A WatchCharts/Morgan Stanley report excerpt for 1Q 2025 said discontinuations including the 5712/1A had a major effect on value retention, and that tracked Patek Philippe sports models were trading above retail at that time. That is a statement about market behavior in that period, not proof that the premium will continue or that the 5712/1A will rise from its current level.

What could happen to the 5712/1A’s future value?
There is no reliable model-specific forecast established by the available figures. A discontinued reference may attract collector interest, but scarcity by itself does not show that prices will increase: demand, competing watches and wider luxury-watch conditions matter, and no direct steel replacement has been announced.
Scenario: collector demand remains strong
If buyers continue to prize the 5712/1A’s steel construction, complications and discontinued status, demand could support its market position. The reported 2025 premium context is consistent with interest in Patek Philippe sports models at that time, but it does not demonstrate what buyers will pay in the future.

Scenario: a successor or changing tastes redirect interest
Patek Philippe could introduce a future steel reference, or collectors could shift attention to other models. Neither development is announced in the cited sources. Either could alter how buyers view the 5712/1A, but assigning a price effect now would be speculation.
Scenario: individual watch condition drives the outcome
For a particular example, condition, completeness, service records and the difference between an asking price and a completed sale can affect its appeal and sale result. The cited market estimate does not isolate those factors or provide a reliable causal forecast for this reference.

What to check when assessing a 5712/1A
- Confirm the reference: distinguish the steel 5712/1A-001 from the current rose-gold 5712/1R-001.
- Assess the individual watch: review condition, completeness and service documentation rather than relying on a headline estimate.
- Compare like with like: use dated evidence from the same region and distinguish completed sale prices from asking prices or modelled estimates.
- For an auction purchase or sale: check the auction house’s terms, fees and the result for the specific lot; terms and outcomes vary.
