The Rolex Daytona 126500LN is the successor to the 116500LN, bringing calibre 4131 and updated bezel and dial details while keeping the familiar 40 mm Oystersteel chronograph format. Choose between them mainly by generation and appearance: the 126500LN is the current model, while the 116500LN is a previous-generation watch you’ll generally be considering pre-owned. The available specifications do not establish that the newer movement is more accurate.

What changed between the generations?
Movement: calibre 4130 to 4131
The defining mechanical change is the move from calibre 4130 in the 116500LN to calibre 4131 in the 126500LN. Rolex documents the 4131 in its current 126500LN specifications; the 4130 identification for the previous reference is supported by the WatchGuys comparison and Sotheby’s catalog rather than an accessible Rolex archival specification page.
Rolex gives the 126500LN a stated precision of −2/+2 seconds per day after casing. That figure describes the current model’s specification; it does not prove a measurable accuracy advantage over the 116500LN. No authoritative side-by-side performance test is established here.
Bezel, case and dial appearance
Both watches pair a black ceramic tachymeter bezel with a steel Daytona case. WatchGuys describes the 126500LN’s bezel as framed by a polished steel rim and notes revised case and dial details compared with the 116500LN. These are visual distinctions; the evidence does not establish a different functional purpose or a material wrist-comfort advantage. Specific comparative thickness figures are not included because they are not verified by a primary technical source here.

What the 126500LN’s official specifications say
For the 126500LN, Rolex lists a 40 mm Oystersteel case, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, screw-down Triplock crown and water resistance to 100 metres (330 feet). Its self-winding chronograph is calibre 4131, with approximately 72 hours of power reserve and stated precision of −2/+2 seconds per day after casing. Rolex also specifies an Oyster three-piece solid-link bracelet, an Oysterlock folding safety clasp with Easylink 5 mm comfort extension, and Superlative Chronometer certification. The cited black-dial version has steel counter rings and a Chromalight display. See the Rolex 126500LN product page and Rolex 2023 catalogue.
Rolex describes the Cerachrom bezel as corrosion resistant, virtually scratchproof and colour-stable under ultraviolet exposure. “Virtually scratchproof” is the manufacturer’s description, not a promise that the ceramic bezel cannot be damaged.

Which Daytona should you choose?
Choose the 126500LN if you want the current generation
The 126500LN is the clear fit if you want Rolex’s current Daytona generation, calibre 4131 and its updated styling. Rolex’s U.S. page displayed $16,900 USD when accessed in 2026, but that page-specific figure does not establish stock, a completed sale price or prices in other markets.
Choose the 116500LN if you prefer the earlier design
The 116500LN may suit you better if you prefer its bezel and dial aesthetic. As the previous generation, it is a pre-owned purchase; the right comparison is between specific watches, not just reference numbers. No current resale-price sample is established here, so a value premium or investment outlook cannot be inferred.

What to verify before buying
For either reference, assess the individual watch and seller rather than assuming that a reference number or asking price settles the question. Rolex states that only its official retailers are allowed to sell and maintain Rolex watches. For any listing, confirm:
- The exact reference and that the seller identifies the watch as a 116500LN or 126500LN.
- Seller identity, authenticity policy and any applicable return terms.
- Condition, including the case, bezel, dial, bracelet and clasp.
- Which papers and other documentation are included, and whether service history is available.
- The actual asking price and what it covers; do not treat Rolex’s displayed new-model price as a pre-owned market benchmark.
To identify official retailer channels, use Rolex’s store locator. A third-party listing should not be represented as an authorized Rolex retailer unless that status is verified.
