Yes. Samsung was still publishing Galaxy Watch5-series updates as of August 18, 2026. Its Japan update listing shows June 2026 firmware in the ZE1 family for the Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro. The exact build and arrival date depend on the watch’s model, region and, for LTE models, carrier; this is evidence of ongoing updates, not a promise of indefinite support.
What is the latest verified Watch5 update?
Samsung’s Japan support listing records ZE1-family firmware for these models. Those dates describe that regional listing, not a worldwide release schedule.
| Watch | Models listed | Firmware family | Listing date and region |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch5 | SM-R900 and SM-R910 | ZE1 | June 22, 2026; Japan |
| Galaxy Watch5 Pro | SM-R920 | ZE1 | June 24, 2026; Japan |
Samsung’s Japan version listing does not establish that every market or LTE carrier received the same package on those dates. Separately, SamMobile reported builds R900XXS2DZE1 and R920XXS2DZE1 and described them as including the May 2026 security patch. Treat that patch description as secondary reporting, not a universal Samsung changelog: SamMobile’s May 2026 update report.
For one specific software record, Samsung’s update page for the SM-R900 lists Android/Wear OS 6.0 and a One UI 6 Watch upgrade entry. That page is model- and region-specific, so it should not be read as confirmation that every Watch5 variant has the same installed version: Samsung’s SM-R900 update history.

How to understand the Watch5 software versions
Three labels describe different things: Wear OS is the underlying smartwatch platform; One UI Watch is Samsung’s interface and feature layer; and the firmware build identifies a particular software package for a model and market. For example, a build ending in DZE1 is not itself the name of a Wear OS generation.
- At launch: Samsung’s business-report material lists Wear OS 3.5 and One UI Watch 4.5 for the Watch5 generation.
- Later upgrades: The series received One UI 5 Watch, based on Wear OS 4, and Samsung officially included the Watch5 and Watch5 Pro in its One UI 6 Watch rollout, based on Wear OS 5.
- Later update record: Samsung’s SM-R900 page lists Android/Wear OS 6.0, but that entry does not establish availability for every model, carrier or country.
Samsung described One UI 6 Watch as bringing selected newer wearable experiences to older watches, including the Watch5 series. Its announcement is the appropriate reference for the rollout and feature scope: Samsung’s One UI 6 Watch announcement. A maintenance or security release after a major upgrade may change the build without adding a conspicuous new feature.
What major updates add—and what they do not
Samsung’s One UI 6 Watch rollout highlighted selected interface, health and fitness changes, including Energy Score and sleep-related improvements. Feature availability is not uniform: it can depend on the watch hardware, paired phone, country and regulatory approval. A rollout to Watch5 does not mean that every feature on newer Galaxy Watch models is available on the older watch.

- Rugged Titanium Case: Durable titanium design built for outdoor activities and demanding environments.
- Watch and software dependent: Interface changes and supported fitness or sleep experiences can arrive through software, but the exact set depends on the model and installed release.
- Phone dependent: Some Galaxy AI-related experiences and Samsung health functions require a compatible Galaxy phone or Samsung app.
- Country or health-rule dependent: ECG, blood-pressure, sleep-apnea and similar health functions may require compatible hardware, Samsung Health Monitor, country approval and setup. They are not universally available and are not a medical diagnosis.
- Hardware limited: Software cannot supply a sensor, GPS component or other physical capability that a watch does not have.
How to check and install an update
- Use the paired phone: Open Galaxy Wearable, then tap Watch settings → Watch software update → Download and install. If an update is available, follow the prompts. Depending on app version and phone, the route may instead appear under About watch → Update watch software.
- Prepare the watch: Keep it charged, preferably on its charger, and maintain a connection to the phone or Wi-Fi while checking and downloading.
- Check the installed build: On the watch, open Settings → About watch → Software information. Labels can vary by software version. Note the model number and full build when comparing your installed software with a support listing.
The phone-app route and menu variants are documented in update coverage and Samsung support material; wording can change between app versions. See Droid Life’s Watch5 update report and Samsung’s support guidance.
Why an update may not appear yet
A missing update is not by itself evidence that support has ended. Samsung can release firmware in stages, and the update channel must match the watch.
- Model or connectivity mismatch: Bluetooth and LTE versions have different model numbers and may get separate packages. Confirm the model printed in the watch’s software information before comparing builds.
- Carrier or region: LTE firmware may depend on carrier approval; country, software channel and imported-device status can also affect availability. Older US carrier releases illustrate the differences: Verizon LTE models were reported with separate builds R905USQU1AVH6, R915USQU1AVH6 and R925USQU1AVH6, while Bluetooth models had received the update earlier, according to Droid Life.
- Rollout timing: A regional support page may list a release before it reaches a particular carrier or device.
- App, connection or device readiness: Update Galaxy Wearable and the watch plug-in, check the phone/watch connection and Wi-Fi, and ensure adequate charge and free storage.
- Temporary pause: Samsung may pause a rollout if an issue emerges; a package listed for a different model does not establish that yours should receive it.
Watch apps can also update through Google Play independently of Samsung firmware. An app update does not prove that the watch’s operating system or security patch changed.

What to do when an update fails
First identify where it failed: a download problem, an installation interrupted during reboot, or a problem that began after the update call for different responses.
If the download will not complete
- Charge the watch to roughly 50% or more and keep it on the charger during the attempt.
- Restart both the phone and watch, then retry over a reliable Wi-Fi connection.
- Update Galaxy Wearable and the Galaxy Watch plug-in through Google Play.
- Free storage by removing downloaded music, maps or apps you no longer use. If downloads repeatedly fail, clear the Galaxy Wearable app cache and try again.
If installation has started
Do not interrupt the watch while it reboots or applies firmware. If it repeatedly loops, freezes or will not complete, use Samsung Members diagnostics where available or contact Samsung support before resetting it. A factory reset is a last resort: it can erase locally stored watch data and require pairing again.
If battery life seems worse afterward
Some drain immediately after a major update can be temporary while the watch and phone resynchronize data, optimize apps or rebuild indexes; that possibility does not establish a firmware defect. Allow one or two full charge cycles, review battery use by app, update watch apps, restart, and temporarily turn off features such as always-on display or unused health and connectivity functions to isolate the cause. Samsung advises checking software currency and offers Samsung Members battery diagnostics for supported setups; see its support guidance.

Is continued support a reason to keep or buy one?
For current owners
Ongoing firmware is reassuring if the watch still meets your needs: replacing it is not necessary just because it is from 2022. The hardware still matters. Samsung’s business-report document identifies the Exynos W920 platform for the generation, while its Watch5 Pro specifications list a 590 mAh typical battery, titanium construction, sapphire crystal, and outdoor functions including GPX route import and Track Back. The standard Watch5 was offered in 40 mm and 44 mm sizes; the Pro is 45 mm. Samsung’s business-report material lists 16 GB storage for the generation: Samsung’s 2024 Q3 interim report.
Battery condition is a practical reason to consider service or replacement after several years of use. A software update cannot restore capacity lost through battery aging, and continued updates do not guarantee a future support period.
For someone shopping for one
Do not treat the 2026 updates as a guarantee of future support or as proof that the Watch5 matches newer hardware. Compare its price with newer watches, inspect battery condition on any used unit, confirm LTE compatibility with your carrier and check which features work with your phone and region. An older Watch5 is most compelling when its lower price and specific strengths—especially the Pro’s large battery and rugged build—outweigh battery wear and the shorter, uncertain remaining update horizon.
