But it is a 2021 model, and a September 2026 report says Samsung has ended its security-update support. That lifecycle concern makes it a harder new purchase to recommend; a used or refurbished one makes sense only if the price, battery condition and compatibility suit your needs.
This review is based on Samsung specifications and launch claims, its model-specific update record, and published reporting—not hands-on testing. The Classic comes in 42 mm and 46 mm versions, and their displays, batteries and weights differ.
What makes the Watch4 Classic different?
The defining feature is its physical rotating bezel: turn the ring around the display to navigate menus and lists. That gives the Classic a more tactile control than a touchscreen-only watch, and the stainless-steel case gives it a traditional watch-like appearance. Samsung lists two physical buttons as well.
The Watch4 generation was also Samsung’s first smartwatch generation built on its collaboration with Google: Wear OS Powered by Samsung with Samsung’s One UI Watch interface. At launch, Samsung described access to Google apps such as Maps alongside Samsung services including Samsung Pay, SmartThings and Bixby, as well as third-party apps such as Strava and Spotify. Those are launch-era examples; current availability and functions can change.

- Rotating Bezel Navigation: Physical rotating bezel allows precise and intuitive control of apps and menus.
42 mm vs. 46 mm: what changes?
Choose by wrist fit and preferred screen size, not just by the model name. Samsung’s 2021 datasheet lists these specifications:
| Specification | 42 mm Classic | 46 mm Classic |
|---|---|---|
| Display | 1.2-inch, 396 × 396 | 1.4-inch, 450 × 450 |
| Battery capacity | 247 mAh | 361 mAh |
| Case dimensions | 41.5 mm square | 45.5 mm square |
| Listed weight | 46.5 g | 52 g |
The 46 mm version is larger and heavier but has the bigger, higher-resolution display and greater battery capacity. The 42 mm model is smaller and lighter. These figures describe the watches when new; they do not establish how long a particular used watch will last between charges.
Does it work with your phone?
Do not assume compatibility from the Wear OS name alone. Google says Wear OS 3 watches do not use the generic Wear OS app setup flow and directs Galaxy Watch4 owners to Samsung’s setup instructions. Samsung’s datasheet specifies a select Bluetooth-capable Android phone running Android 6.0 or later with more than 1.5 GB of RAM; supported features can vary by compatible phone and carrier.

Before buying, check Samsung’s setup guidance for your phone and confirm that the features you want are available in your country and with your carrier. The cited requirements do not establish compatibility with every Android phone, and they do not support a promise of universal setup or feature access.

Health and fitness features—and their limits
Samsung’s BioActive sensor package combines optical heart-rate, electrical heart and bioelectrical impedance analysis sensors. Samsung advertised heart-rate and blood-oxygen measurements, body composition, activity tracking, guided workouts and sleep features. Some features depend on the phone, app, carrier or market.
Body composition
Samsung’s 2021 U.K. launch description says the watch can report skeletal muscle, basal metabolic rate, body water and body-fat percentage. Samsung said a reading took about 15 seconds and used 2,400 data points. Those are the manufacturer’s published claims, not independent validation or a clinical accuracy finding.

Medical and regional caveats
Samsung’s datasheet says the SpO₂ software is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, mitigate or prevent disease, and gives a similar limitation for the stated VO₂ max purpose. Treat the health tools as wellness features, not a substitute for medical advice or diagnosis. Snore measurement, for example, requires a compatible Android phone and Samsung Health configuration; other functions can have their own setup or market restrictions.
Battery life and everyday performance
Samsung advertised “up to 40 hours” of battery life at launch in 2021 and said a 30-minute charge could provide up to 10 hours. These are launch-era manufacturer claims, not current measured endurance. The battery capacities are 247 mAh for 42 mm and 361 mAh for 46 mm, but capacity alone cannot tell you how long a used example will last: battery condition varies, and no controlled current battery test is established here.
Samsung’s U.K. launch release lists an Exynos W920 5 nm dual-core processor running at 1.18 GHz, 1.5 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. These are historical specifications, not a current benchmark comparison. Samsung’s launch-era comparisons with the previous generation are manufacturer claims rather than independent performance tests.

Software support is the main reason to hesitate
Samsung’s update history for the LTE Galaxy Watch4 Classic model SM-R895F lists AndroidWear 6.0, released August 24, 2026, with a security patch level of August 5, 2026. Samsung cautions that exact changes can vary by model, country and service provider. This record is for one regional LTE model, not a global statement about every Watch4 Classic SKU.
Android Central reported on September 10, 2026 that Samsung had removed the Watch4 and Watch4 Classic from its security-update list, describing the August update as the last after a five-year support cycle. Samsung’s cited model update page confirms the August release but does not itself expressly state that support has ended. Check the update status for the exact model and region you are considering, and weigh the reported end of support carefully if buying now.
Band fit and buying advice
Samsung lists interchangeable 20 mm bands for both Classic sizes, including Ridge Sports Bands. A 20 mm Samsung Galaxy Watch4 Classic replacement band is a plausible fit, but verify the listing against your case size and attachment before ordering; marketplace compatibility and availability are not established here.

Quick Recap
- Consider it used or refurbished if you specifically want the physical bezel and can confirm the watch’s battery condition, phone compatibility and remaining usefulness at the asking price.
- Be cautious about buying new if you expect a long support horizon. The reported end of updates is a substantial drawback for a current purchase.
- For an existing owner, the bezel, Wear OS app access and health tools may still serve everyday needs, but check your exact model’s update status and treat health measurements within Samsung’s stated limits.
