Was the $250 Galaxy Ring trade-in deal real?
Yes. TechRadar reported the promotion on January 23, 2025, and Droid Life covered it on January 30. Their reports described a $250 credit against a $399.99 Galaxy Ring, making the advertised pre-tax price approximately $149.99—a discount of about 62.5%. That was a time-limited instant trade-in promotion, not a permanent $250 value for every smartwatch.
Is the $250 offer still available?
There is no evidence on Samsung’s U.S. offers page, checked August 18, 2026, that the old $250 Galaxy Ring credit is currently listed. Samsung instead shows the Galaxy Ring with up to $150 in instant trade-in credit. The same page advertises up to $250 for newer watches such as Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2, which is a separate offer.

Samsung’s Galaxy Ring product page lists the ring from $299.99 before trade-in. A maximum $150 credit could therefore bring the starting price to roughly $149.99, but only when the selected device qualifies for the maximum. Samsung says offers can be modified or discontinued, so verify the current checkout rather than relying on an old headline.
What did “any smartwatch” mean?
Historical coverage used broad language, but it was not perfectly consistent. TechRadar described any smartwatch in working condition, including Apple Watch and Garmin examples. Droid Life said virtually any brand could qualify but described the watch as needing to be not broken.

The practical distinction is important:
- Any brand or model: The historical promotion was not limited to Samsung watches.
- Any physical condition: That was not established consistently by the reports.
- Program eligibility: Samsung’s underlying trade-in checks still apply.
Samsung’s general requirements normally include a device that powers on, holds a charge, has a functioning display and is not subject to prohibited damage. The device must be owned by you, not blacklisted or account-locked, and must match the model and condition declared at checkout. Review the Samsung trade-in FAQ and trade-in program for the terms attached to the live order.
Which watches could qualify?
Reports indicated that older Apple Watch, Garmin, Galaxy Watch and other smartwatch models could be used during the 2025 promotion. - You prefer convenience over obtaining the highest resale price.
- You already use a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone and mainly want passive sleep or health tracking.
Selling privately may be better when
- Your Apple Watch, Garmin or Galaxy Watch has a resale value substantially above Samsung’s credit.
- You need money rather than a discount tied to a new purchase.
- You still need the watch’s screen, notifications, apps, GPS, calls or cellular service.
Compare three numbers before accepting: Samsung’s checkout credit, realistic net resale proceeds after fees and shipping, and the value of keeping the watch. The credit is not free money; you surrender the device and must buy the ring.

Eligibility checklist before mailing the watch
- Confirm the exact model and condition in Samsung’s current trade-in selector.
- Verify that it powers on, holds a charge and has a working display.
- Remove account locks, unpair it and factory-reset it.
- Make sure it is owned outright. Samsung says installment-plan devices may need to be fully paid off.
- Photograph the watch and its condition, retain the order and shipping records, and follow Samsung’s packing instructions.
What if Samsung rejects the trade-in?
The instant credit is contingent on Samsung receiving the declared device and approving its condition. A materially different, locked, blacklisted or nonfunctional watch can lead to an adjusted value or a charge for the credit. Keep evidence of what you shipped until the inspection is complete.
Also read the return terms before mailing the old watch. Samsung’s FAQ warns that if you return the new device after sending the trade-in, you may not receive a refund or other value for the trade-in device credit already deducted.

A Galaxy Ring is not a smartwatch replacement for everyone
