TAG Heuer’s “Bright” editions are dramatic luxury smartwatches, not vivid-color watches: Bright Black is a dark 45-mm titanium model with rose-gold-colored accents, while Golden Bright is a smaller 42-mm rose-gold-colored PVD steel model. Their looks are intentionally conspicuous. Whether that is too much depends on whether you want a smartwatch to disappear under a cuff—or to read first as a statement watch.
What are TAG Heuer’s Bright editions?
Bright Black and Golden Bright are special versions of the Connected Calibre E4, launched in 2023. Both pair traditional watch styling and premium-looking materials with Wear OS. Neither uses solid gold: Golden Bright’s case is steel with a rose-gold-colored PVD coating, while Bright Black’s titanium case has a black DLC surface treatment.

Bright Black: dark case, warm accents
Bright Black (reference SBR8A83.BT6302) has a 45-mm black DLC-coated Grade 2 titanium case, a polished black ceramic bezel, rose-gold-colored details, and a black calfskin-and-rubber strap. The black-and-warm-metal contrast makes it more striking than its name might suggest. “Bright” describes the high-contrast finish, not a brightly colored case.
Golden Bright: the more overtly metallic option
Golden Bright (reference SBR8011.BC6652) has a 42-mm steel case with rose-gold-colored PVD coating, matching crown and pushers, and a black calfskin strap with red lining. Its smaller format is comparatively dressy; its all-over warm metallic tone is also the less discreet of the two.

Why the design can feel like too much
The designs stack several signals of luxury-watch identity—sapphire crystal, ceramic or coated metal, chronograph-inspired controls, and elaborate finishing—onto the already prominent shape of a smartwatch. That can be appealing if you want a distinctive wrist object. It can also look overdecorated, especially if your everyday style is restrained.
- Bright Black: black titanium and ceramic suggest a sporty, technical watch, but the rose-gold-colored highlights draw attention and lend it a jewelry-like edge.
- Golden Bright: the rose-gold-colored coating is deliberately conspicuous and may be less versatile than plain steel across work, travel, and casual settings.
- Case presence: 45 mm is substantial, and the conventional chronograph silhouette makes Bright Black visually assertive. Golden Bright is 42 mm, but its decorative treatment does not make it minimalist.
TAG Heuer’s Connected collection positions 42-mm models as more elegant and 45-mm models as more rugged and sporty. That is a useful distinction in intent, not a promise that either size will suit a particular wrist; fit depends on the wearer and should be checked in person where possible.
What the watches offer beyond their finishes
Both are functional smartwatches, not merely decorative shells. They use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 4100+ platform and Wear OS, with AMOLED displays protected by sapphire crystal. TAG Heuer lists Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi, NFC, GNSS, heart-rate monitoring, compass and barometer functions, plus its Sports, Golf, and Wellness software. The Golden Bright page also lists a microphone. The 42-mm Golden Bright has an interchangeable strap system.
Bright Black has a 1.39-inch display and 440-mAh battery; Golden Bright has a 1.28-inch display and 330-mAh battery. TAG Heuer claims a full day of use for both, with its stated activity conditions differing: multiple hours of sport for the 45-mm model and a one-hour sports session for the 42-mm model. These are manufacturer claims, not independent endurance results. TAG Heuer says actual battery life varies with apps, notifications, settings, screen brightness, Wi-Fi use, and charging cycles.

Choose Bright Black if you prefer a darker, sportier look and want the larger-format model. Consider Golden Bright if you prefer the smaller case and actively want rose-gold-colored styling. Neither is the natural choice for someone seeking a quiet, neutral smartwatch.

The luxury-smartwatch trade-off
The premium is easiest to understand in the case materials, finish, brand identity, and watch-like presentation—not as proof of superior fitness tracking or broader smart features. Sapphire, ceramic, and titanium are tangible distinctions, but the daily battery claim is modest for a device at luxury-watch prices, and the Snapdragon Wear 4100+ is an older platform rather than a current-generation selling point.
That matters because a smartwatch’s useful life depends on more than the case surviving. Wear OS and app compatibility, phone operating-system support, battery degradation, replacement parts, service availability, and TAG Heuer’s companion software all affect how long it remains practical. TAG Heuer’s product pages list compatibility limits and warn that supported features and apps vary by platform and country. Check the live compatibility information for your phone before buying; those listed version ranges are time-sensitive, not a guarantee of indefinite support.

TAG Heuer’s U.S. product pages currently mark Bright Black and Golden Bright as discontinued. They display $1,650 and $1,400 respectively, but these are archival page price signals, not confirmation of current stock, a live sale, or today’s market value. Droid Life’s 2023 launch coverage reported starting prices of $2,750 for Bright Black and $2,300 for Golden Bright; those figures are secondary reporting, not an independently verified TAG Heuer historical MSRP.
If shopping for one now, treat it as a discontinued electronic device as well as a luxury accessory. Before paying, verify:
- Whether the seller is authorized, and whether the watch is new old stock, refurbished, or used.
- Battery condition, warranty coverage, return terms, and whether TAG Heuer will still service the watch.
- Compatibility with your phone using TAG Heuer’s current information.
- Whether the charger and original strap are included, and whether replacement straps or parts are available.
Who should consider one?
These make the most sense for a TAG Heuer collector or a buyer who specifically loves one of the colorways, understands the limitations of an older smartwatch platform, and can confirm condition and support before purchase. They are harder to recommend if you want the best value, the newest software experience, maximum battery life, or a watch that will remain visually unobtrusive.
For a broader look at the brand’s Connected range, TAG Heuer’s Connected collection page is the official place to compare its lineup; it does not imply that the discontinued Bright editions are available there.
