Samsung’s reported May 2026 Wear OS security rollout covers 11 Galaxy Watch models, from the Galaxy Watch 4 generation through the Watch 8 family and Galaxy Watch FE. It is a staged maintenance release—not a confirmed worldwide launch and not automatically the same thing as One UI 8 Watch. Availability depends on the exact model number, Bluetooth or LTE configuration, carrier, country and paired phone.
The earliest reported releases were in South Korea in June 2026, with separate Verizon builds appearing in the United States. As of August 16, 2026, owners elsewhere may still see different timing.
Which Galaxy Watches are included?
The following is the reported rollout list. Firmware and release timing can differ between regional, Bluetooth and LTE variants, so treat the build strings as examples rather than universal identifiers.

The model list comes from firmware-tracking coverage rather than one global Samsung announcement. Check Samsung’s model-specific update database, such as the Galaxy Watch6 update page, before comparing a build.

What this update is—and is not
The package is identified as the May 2026 Wear OS security update. Available reporting describes updated security patches plus general system, stability and device-operation improvements. The exact changelog can vary by model and market.
- It is primarily a security and maintenance release.
- It may include bug fixes or background Wear OS and Samsung wearable improvements.
- There is no evidence that every listed watch receives new sensors, watch faces, AI functions, improved tracking or guaranteed longer battery life.
Do not confuse this package with Samsung’s One UI 8 Watch upgrade. Samsung’s One UI 8 Watch rollout is based on Wear OS 6 and expanded features from newer watches to the Galaxy Watch Ultra, Watch 7, Watch 6 and 6 Classic, Watch 5 and 5 Pro, and Watch 4 and 4 Classic, subject to market and paired-phone restrictions. Samsung’s announcement is documented in its Newsroom article. The May 2026 package should be treated as a later maintenance update unless your watch’s own changelog explicitly names a One UI version upgrade.

Where has the rollout started?
Reported milestones show why two owners of the same watch can see different results:
- June 8, 2026: newer Galaxy Watch ranges reportedly began receiving the package in South Korea.
- June 13, 2026: Verizon-bound U.S. builds were reported for Galaxy Watch 7, Galaxy Watch Ultra, Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 8 Classic.
- June 16, 2026: South Korean coverage reported the Watch 4, Watch 4 Classic, Watch FE, Watch 5, Watch 5 Pro, Watch 6 and Watch 6 Classic joining the rollout.
Those are regional release milestones, not a simultaneous worldwide launch. LTE watches can wait for carrier certification, while imported watches can remain tied to the firmware channel of their original market. Samsung says update availability and features can vary by market, model, carrier and paired smartphone in its support guidance.

Samsung changes firmware strings for country codes, carriers, case sizes and Bluetooth/LTE variants. Use the watch’s complete model number—not just “Watch 7” or “44mm”—when checking Samsung’s update database. Never install an LTE or foreign-region package on a different variant.

How to check and install the update
From a paired phone
- Charge the watch and keep it close to the paired phone.
- Open Galaxy Wearable.
- Tap Watch settings.
- Tap Watch software update.
- Select Download and install.
From the watch
- Open Settings on the watch.
- Swipe up to Software update.
- Choose Download and install.
Wording can vary slightly by generation and software version. Use a stable Wi-Fi connection where required, keep sufficient battery and storage available, and do not interrupt installation. The watch may restart and spend additional time syncing or optimizing apps afterward.

- Staged rollout: Samsung may not have enabled your country or model variant yet.
- Carrier approval: LTE firmware can arrive after Bluetooth or unlocked versions.
- Model mismatch: A Watch 6 Bluetooth unit and an LTE carrier unit do not necessarily share a build.
- Phone-side software: Update Galaxy Wearable and its watch plug-in, then restart both devices.
- Imported hardware: A watch bought abroad may remain on its original regional channel.
If the watch says it is current while Samsung lists a newer build for another country or carrier, that can be normal. Recheck later and use Samsung’s regional firmware page with your exact model number.

If installation fails
- Put the watch on its charger, confirm available storage and retry on reliable Wi-Fi.
- Restart the watch and phone, then repeat Galaxy Wearable > Watch settings > Watch software update.
- Install pending Galaxy Wearable and plug-in updates from the phone’s app store.
- Leave the watch near the phone until downloading, installation and post-update syncing finish.
- Contact Samsung support if the watch overheats, repeatedly restarts, becomes stuck in an installation loop or shows persistent battery drain.
Do not cross-flash firmware intended for another model, carrier or country. A factory reset is not a first-line fix: it can erase local data and force a complete re-pair. Back up the watch and follow Samsung’s support advice before considering one.
Should you replace the watch instead?
A delayed rollout alone is not a reason to buy another watch. Keep and update a listed model if it still meets your needs. Consider replacement only for a hardware-specific benefit—newer sensors, longer battery endurance, LTE, rugged construction or features your current model cannot support.
