The Scurfa Diver One D1-500 is built around a serious tool-watch brief: a manufacturer-rated 500 m depth capability, a Heliox escape valve, and straightforward dive-timing hardware. Those features make it commercial-diving-inspired, but they do not by themselves establish that the exact “Original” variant is approved or suitable for a particular professional or saturation-diving operation. Scurfa’s available specifications here are for its Gloss Black listing, so variant-specific details should be treated carefully.
What the D1-500 offers
Scurfa’s official Diver One D1-500 Gloss Black listing describes a compact, steel-cased diver with a 500 m (approximately 1,640 ft) rating. The measurements and features below are the manufacturer’s stated specifications for that listing, not results from independent testing.

What the Heliox valve does—and what it does not prove
In some saturation-diving environments, helium can pass into a watch case. During decompression, trapped gas may create a pressure difference that risks damaging the watch. A helium escape valve is intended to let gas out of the case as pressure conditions change. Its presence is relevant to the D1-500’s commercial-diving inspiration, but a valve is one design feature, not a certification for a dive system or procedure.
Scurfa says it tested the valve with different depths and gas mixtures and reports a “deepest decompression 154 metres to the surface.” That is the manufacturer’s account; the listing does not provide a test protocol or independent corroboration. The 500 m rating is likewise a maker-stated specification rather than an independently verified result in the available documentation.

For professional use, a depth rating and helium-related feature cannot replace the operational requirements set by a dive contractor, equipment program, or relevant procedure. The available sources do not establish applicable certification, standards compliance, or approval for the exact Original variant.
How it is likely to wear and function
Size and construction
At 40 mm across and 47.7 mm long, the listed case dimensions suggest a relatively restrained footprint for a tool watch. Its 14.4 mm thickness is substantial enough to account for under-cuff fit, while the stated 100 g weight offers a useful reference for wear on the supplied configuration. Scurfa specifies 316L stainless steel and a domed sapphire crystal, with the anti-reflective coating on the underside.

Timing and visibility
The unidirectional bezel gives the expected dive-timing control: it can be aligned to the minute hand, and an accidental knock should move elapsed time toward a shorter rather than longer indication. Scurfa lists 120 clicks, an aluminium insert and a luminous pearl. BGW9 lume is specified for the dial, hands and bezel pearl; the product listing does not provide independent brightness or duration measurements.
Scurfa’s listing describes a gloss-black dial with silver polished hands and says the hands “really stand out.” That is the maker’s promotional description, not an independent legibility assessment.

What is—and is not—confirmed about the “Original”
The surfaced official product page is for the Gloss Black D1-500, not conclusive documentation for the precise “Original” named in this review. Its measurements and features are useful for understanding the D1-500 family, but should not be silently treated as proof of every Original specification.
In particular, do not assume the movement, battery provisions or warranty from another variant. Scurfa’s separate Black PVD datasheet lists an ETA F06.412 Swiss-made, brass, 3-jewel movement, longer battery life, an end-of-life indicator and a 12-month warranty. Those are Black PVD details; the available documentation does not establish them for the exact Original.

Verdict: a credible tool-watch concept, not proof of professional approval
The D1-500’s appeal is its clear purpose: a steel case, conventional elapsed-time bezel, luminous markers, sapphire crystal, screw-down crown and a stated Heliox valve in a 500 m-rated package. The specifications make it a compelling commercial-diving-inspired design. The important distinction is evidential: the published claims come from Scurfa, and the surfaced material does not verify the exact Original’s full specification or suitability for a defined commercial operation. A buyer choosing it for ordinary dive-watch use can assess the listed hardware; a professional operation should verify the exact reference and its own acceptance requirements before relying on it.
