The Seiko 5 Sports SRPL83, SRPL85, SRPL87 and SRPL89 are four watches in Seiko’s SKX series. They share the same 4R36 automatic movement, 42.5 mm stainless-steel case, 13.9 mm thickness, 46.0 mm lug-to-lug measurement, curved Hardlex crystal and 10 bar water-resistance rating. The meaningful differences are the bracelet or strap, dial and bezel treatment, listed weight and regional price.
“7002 Style” is useful editorial shorthand for their vintage Seiko diver-inspired appearance, but Seiko’s official material places these models in the SKX lineage and cites the SKX007 as their inspiration. Seiko does not describe them as 7002 reissues.

What the four SRPL models have in common
All four references use Seiko’s 4R36 automatic movement. It supports manual winding, hacking (stop-second), a day/date display, 24 jewels and an approximately 41-hour power reserve. These are Seiko’s published specifications, not independent timing or reserve-test results.

SRPL83, SRPL85, SRPL87 and SRPL89 compared
SRPL83
The SRPL83 pairs a blue sunray-finished dial, applied markers and a stainless-steel bracelet. Seiko’s US lineup lists it at USD 450. Its listed bracelet weight is 187.0 g, and the clasp is a three-fold, push-button design with a secure lock.
SRPL85
The SRPL85 is the other bracelet model and is also listed at USD 450 in Seiko’s US lineup. It uses a glossy glass bezel insert. The available official specification excerpt does not establish its dial color, so buyers should use Seiko’s current product imagery or full product description rather than assuming a color from secondary listings. Its listed bracelet weight is 187.0 g.
SRPL87
The SRPL87 has a yellow dial and black silicone strap. Seiko’s US lineup lists it at USD 400. The listed weight is 100.0 g, substantially lighter than the bracelet references.

Why they are called “7002 Style”
Seiko’s own history describes these watches as part of the SKX series, a line that developed from divers’-watch design and was adapted for everyday city wear. Seiko identifies the SKX007 as the inspiration behind the current models and highlights the four-o’clock crown, marker changes and revised dial layout.
Collectors may see visual cues associated with older 7002-era Seiko divers, which explains the editorial nickname. That comparison should remain a description of appearance: the reviewed Seiko material neither uses “7002 Style” as an official collection name nor calls these references 7002 reissues.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which SRPL should you choose?
Choose SRPL83 for the classic blue-and-bracelet combination
The SRPL83 is the straightforward option if you want a blue dial, steel bracelet and applied markers. It costs more on Seiko’s US list than the silicone-strap references and carries the higher listed weight.
Choose SRPL85 if the bezel treatment is the priority
The SRPL85 is the bracelet model distinguished by its glossy glass bezel insert. Confirm the dial color and current configuration in the official listing before ordering, because it is not established by the specification excerpt available here.
Choose SRPL87 for the brightest, lightest configuration
The yellow dial and black silicone strap make the SRPL87 the most overtly colorful choice among the four named variants. Its 100.0 g listed weight is 87.0 g below the bracelet models.
Choose SRPL89 for an orange sports-watch look
The SRPL89 keeps the lighter silicone-strap format but uses an orange sporty dial. It shares the SRPL87’s 100.0 g listed weight and USD 400 US list price.
What the specifications mean in daily use
- Size: At 42.5 mm wide and 46.0 mm lug to lug, these are full-size sports watches rather than compact vintage cases. The 13.9 mm thickness also gives them noticeable wrist presence.
- 10 bar water resistance: This is Seiko’s stated rating for the case. Follow Seiko’s care guidance and have seals checked as the watch ages; the rating alone is not a substitute for maintenance or a dive certification.
- Hardlex crystal: Curved Hardlex is the shared crystal specification. It is not sapphire, so scratch resistance should not be assumed to match a sapphire-equipped watch.
- Bracelet versus silicone: The bracelet references are listed at 187.0 g, while the silicone references are listed at 100.0 g. Those are published weights, not comfort tests; wrist fit and personal preference still determine which feels better.
- 4R36 operation: Manual winding and stop-second capability make setting straightforward, while the day/date display adds practical utility. The approximately 41-hour reserve is Seiko’s specification, not an independently measured result.
Buying checklist
- Confirm the exact reference number: SRPL83, SRPL85, SRPL87 or SRPL89.
- Check the country-specific Seiko page, because list price and availability are regional and can change.
- Verify the SRPL85 dial and bezel configuration from current official imagery or a complete product description.
- Decide whether you want the 187.0 g bracelet format or the 100.0 g silicone-strap format.
- Check fit before purchase: the case is 42.5 mm wide, 13.9 mm thick, 46.0 mm lug to lug and uses 22 mm lugs.
- Buy from a seller that identifies the full reference number and provides appropriate warranty documentation.
Bottom line
These four watches are variations on one Seiko 5 Sports SKX platform, not four different movements or case designs. Pick between bracelet and silicone strap first, then choose the dial and bezel color that suits you. Treat “7002 Style” as a visual comparison, while Seiko’s verified positioning is an SKX-series design inspired by the SKX007.
