What is the Seiko Presage SPB449 Porter Classic?
The SPB449 belongs to Seiko Presage’s Craftsmanship series and was created with Porter Classic. Seiko says the design looks to the Laurel, which it identifies as Japan’s first wristwatch, created by Seiko in 1913. Porter Classic co-founder Katsuyuki Yoshida’s interest in pocket watches and early Seiko designs informed the collaboration. Seiko’s SPB449 product page and its October 1, 2024 announcement describe that heritage reference.

Unless otherwise noted, specifications are from Seiko’s October 1, 2024 announcement. The regional product page lists the 37 mm lug-to-lug dimension and 11 mm lug distance; these measurements do not by themselves establish compatibility with conventional straps. What makes the dial and case design distinctive?
The black enamel dial, selected by Yoshida, was made by master enamel craftsman Mitsuru Yokosawa. Its Arabic numerals reproduce the Laurel’s original font, while the hour, minute and 24-hour hands echo the earlier watch’s delicate styling. The subdial at six o’clock occupies the position where the Laurel’s seconds hand was located.

The rounded, movable lugs evoke the bows of pocket watches. On the caseback, Yoshida’s silhouette appears alongside an individual serial number. These details translate the historical references into features of the SPB449 rather than simply reproducing an antique dial.

Yes. Seiko’s launch materials specify a black Cordovan pull-through strap developed for the watch and an additional brown Cordovan strap. Seiko says the straps narrow at the lugs and widen under the case for comfort. The tiered, Jubako-style presentation box stores the watch and spare strap.
If buying a current or resale example, check the listing and photographs for both straps and the box rather than assuming the complete launch set is included. The listed 11 mm lug distance is not enough to confirm that a generic replacement strap will work: the SPB449 uses a custom pull-through arrangement, so verify attachment geometry and fit before ordering.
How many were made, and when did it go on sale?
Seiko announced an edition of 500 pieces, with availability beginning in November 2024 through Seiko Boutiques and select retail partners worldwide. This is the original launch schedule, not confirmation that a watch remains available from those sellers today.

Seiko’s October 1, 2024 press release listed a recommended retail price of €2,400 in Europe. The release cautioned that prices and specifications were those in effect at publication and could change. That historic European recommendation is not a current asking price, a price for every market, or evidence of resale value.
Seiko’s cited launch channels were its boutiques and selected retail partners. For a present-day purchase, verify inventory directly. With any listing, confirm the SPB449 reference, seller identity, condition, asking price, and whether both straps and the presentation box are included. The official launch information establishes the edition size and original offer, but not current availability or market pricing.
