The Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra Leak Looked Great—But Its $700 Price Wasn’t Quite Right

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The leaked watch looked like a bold change for Samsung: a squared-off outer case around a round screen, rugged styling and an orange-accented control. The price report was close, but not exact. Samsung later launched the watch as the Galaxy Watch Ultra, at a U.S. launch price of $649.99—not under the rumored name Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra and not at $700.

What the leaked images showed

In a June 17, 2024 report, Droid Life published renders attributed to leaker Tim Tom 0. They showed a large, rugged-looking watch with a squarish outer case and circular display, dark gray and light silver or white finishes, several controls on the right side and orange detailing around the central control. The combination of a round screen and “squircle” case looked markedly different from Samsung’s more familiar round watch designs. Droid Life’s report and leaked renders were not a Samsung announcement, so the images should be treated as a leak, not confirmed product photography.

The design’s appeal was also its risk. A more assertive shape made the watch look distinctive and outdoors-oriented, but it invited comparisons with Apple’s Watch Ultra line and could feel oversized or less traditionally watch-like. The renders alone could not establish whether the shape improved comfort or function; that would depend on the finished watch and the wearer.

“Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra” was not the official name

The leak and its headline used “Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra.” Samsung’s product, announced in July 2024 alongside the Galaxy Watch7, was officially called the Galaxy Watch Ultra. “Watch 7 Ultra” therefore refers to the prelaunch rumor surrounding that 2024 premium-watch launch, not a separate Samsung model. Samsung’s launch announcement gives the official name and launch details.

The $700 rumor versus the U.S. launch price

Droid Life reported an expected price of about $700. Samsung’s U.S. launch price was $649.99: roughly $50 below the rumor, but still firmly in premium-watch territory. The leak got the price tier broadly right, not the exact price. These figures are U.S. launch prices, not a statement of current pricing in every country or the price a buyer will pay after discounts.

Model or price claim U.S. price What the comparison means
Galaxy Watch Ultra $649.99 launch MSRP Samsung’s confirmed U.S. launch price in July 2024.
Galaxy Watch7 Bluetooth From $299.99 at launch The Ultra cost $350 more than the least expensive Watch7 configuration.
Galaxy Watch7 LTE From $349.99 at launch The Ultra cost $300 more than the least expensive LTE Watch7 configuration.
Leaked estimate About $700 A prelaunch report, not a price Samsung confirmed.

The official launch prices for the Ultra and Watch7 came from Samsung’s U.S. announcement. Samsung’s July 2024 U.S. MSRP sheet is another source for those launch figures. The gap matters because many everyday smartwatch and health functions are available in the lower-priced Watch7 range; the Ultra’s premium is mainly about its larger build, materials, LTE and outdoor-oriented positioning.

What Samsung actually launched

The released Galaxy Watch Ultra confirmed the broad direction of the leak: a large, rugged-looking premium model with a 47mm case. Samsung specified Grade 4 titanium, 10ATM water resistance, LTE, a 3nm processor and L1+L5 dual-frequency GPS. It launched in Titanium Gray, Titanium White and Titanium Silver. The company opened U.S. preorders on July 10, 2024, with general availability beginning July 24. Samsung’s product overview lists the size, processor and GPS; its launch announcement covers materials, water resistance, colors and U.S. dates.

That confirmation does not mean every detail in a leaked image—such as the precise button arrangement, dimensions or finish—was independently verified as a final design match. It is more accurate to say that the renders anticipated the distinctive case direction and premium positioning than to call them an exact preview.

LTE can let the watch connect without a nearby phone when the carrier supports the device and the wearer has a compatible service plan. That may add recurring cost. Likewise, a 10ATM rating and dual-frequency GPS indicate capabilities and specifications; they are not proof of a particular real-world battery life, GPS accuracy or comfort level.

Who gets value from the Ultra?

It is easier to justify for outdoor use

Hikers, runners, cyclists and swimmers may have more reason to consider the Ultra if they specifically want its dual-frequency GPS, 10ATM water resistance, titanium construction, large screen or LTE option. Those are concrete reasons to pay beyond the standard Watch7, though the specifications alone cannot establish how the watch performs in every activity.

It suits buyers who want Samsung’s largest, most premium watch

For a Samsung phone owner who wants a conspicuous, large-format watch and values the Ultra’s materials and rugged positioning, the design itself may be part of the appeal. LTE is useful only if carrier support and an added plan make sense for that buyer.

The Watch7 is the more rational fit for routine smartwatch use

If the main needs are notifications, everyday fitness tracking and common smartwatch functions, the Galaxy Watch7 starts at a substantially lower launch price. Buyers who do not need the Ultra’s larger 47mm case, titanium, LTE or outdoor-oriented features are paying a sizable premium for benefits they may not use.

Small-wrist and budget-conscious buyers should be cautious

A 47mm case may overwhelm smaller wrists or prove uncomfortable for someone who prefers a lighter, less prominent watch, particularly during sleep. The unusual case shape is also a matter of taste: it is more distinctive than a conventional round design, but may be less appealing over time to someone who values a classic silhouette.

What it costs now depends on the offer

Samsung’s U.S. product and purchase pages listed $649.99 as the price signal for the 47mm Galaxy Watch Ultra in the pricing snapshot dated August 18, 2026. Some official purchase pages showed temporary offers of $449.99 or $499.99. These are observed promotions, not permanent prices; the offer can vary by model, color, carrier, inventory, trade-in terms and timing. Check the exact listing and conditions before buying. Samsung’s U.S. purchase page is the place to check current availability and terms.

At a discount, the Ultra’s value calculation improves, but it still hinges on whether the buyer wants its specific hardware. A lower price does not make the 47mm size or polarizing shape a better fit for everyone.

Verdict: exciting design, niche value

The leak made Samsung’s premium watch look more visually daring, and the final Galaxy Watch Ultra broadly followed that direction. Its rumored $700 price was a little high compared with the eventual U.S. launch MSRP of $649.99, but the larger issue remains the sizable premium over the standard Watch7. The Ultra is compelling for buyers who will use its rugged construction, large case, LTE or outdoor-focused features; for ordinary smartwatch needs, the cheaper Watch7 is the easier value choice.
