The Original Pixel Watch Gets Its October 2025 Update—But Not Wear OS 6

The first-generation Google Pixel Watch began receiving its October 2025 update on October 27, 2025. Build BW1A.251005.003.W1 contains security updates and bug fixes, but it does not upgrade Pixel Watch 1 to Wear OS 6. Google later shipped an additional March 2026 modem fix, so the October release was not definitively the watch’s final software update.

Which Pixel Watch is covered?

This update applies to the original, first-generation Pixel Watch launched in 2022, identified by Google as Pixel Watch 1. It covers both Bluetooth/Wi-Fi and LTE versions, although carrier and regional configurations can affect when an LTE model receives the software. Pixel Watch 2, Pixel Watch 3 and later models are separate devices with different update packages.

Google started the phased rollout on October 27, 2025. The company said availability would expand over the following weeks according to carrier and device, so not seeing a notification immediately was normal. Google’s Pixel Watch 1 October 2025 announcement lists the global build as BW1A.251005.003.W1.

What is in the October 2025 update?

Google’s official description is limited to security updates and bug fixes. It does not list a new watch interface, a battery-life improvement, new apps or any other specific user-facing feature. Treat it as a maintenance release rather than a feature drop or operating-system upgrade.

  • Detects loss of pulse, then calls for help: Pixel Watch 5 is the only smartwatch to feature Loss of Pulse Detection, which can prompt a call to emergency services[10]
  • Maintenance update: security, stability and defect corrections.
  • Operating-system upgrade: a platform change such as Wear OS 5.1 to Wear OS 6.
  • Feature drop: newly documented user-facing capabilities.

Only the first category is documented for this Pixel Watch 1 release. Google’s release notice does not identify a particular bug or promise improved battery life.

Did the original Pixel Watch get Wear OS 6?

No—not in the October 2025 update. Contemporary reporting identified the Pixel Watch 1 October build as remaining on Android 15 and Wear OS 5.1. Google’s October Wear OS 6 announcement named the Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3, not the first-generation model. The newer watches’ announcement covered features such as dynamic color theming, rounded fonts and icons, refreshed Wear OS components, updated Tile templates, Google Maps auto-launch and longer Safety Check timers; those features should not be assumed to be present on Pixel Watch 1. This establishes what the October 2025 build contained. It does not, by itself, prove that Pixel Watch 1 could never receive a later platform upgrade.

How to install the update

Use the watch’s own update screen:

  1. Swipe down from the watch face.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap System.
  4. Tap System updates.
  5. Let the watch check for software, then follow the installation prompts if an update is offered.

For the best chance of a successful installation, put the watch on its charger, charge it to at least 50% and connect it to Wi-Fi. The watch cannot be used during installation and will restart when the process finishes. Google’s current instructions are at Pixel Watch Help.

  • The Google Pixel Watch 4 has Gemini built in[4]; just ask questions and your ultra capable AI assistant will deliver quick responses for personalized help; and stay connected when you’re texting with AI-powered quick replies that are hyper-relevant[5,6]
  • Get up to 30 hours of battery life or up to 48 hours in Battery Saver mode[3]; plus, the new side charging dock gives you 15 hours of battery in 15 minutes or less[7]
  • Train smarter with 40+ exercise modes and real-time stats on your wrist[8]; and with high-precision dual-frequency GPS, you get more accurate route tracking on runs and hikes[1]

Confirm the installed build

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap System, then About.
  3. Tap Versions.
  4. Check the build number and Android security-update level.

You may see a different string after a later maintenance release, or a variation associated with region, carrier, LTE status or Wi-Fi configuration. The global October reference build is BW1A.251005.003.W1, not a guarantee that every owner will display that exact text.

Why has the update not appeared?

A delayed notification is usually a rollout-timing issue rather than a fault. Google staged the release by carrier and device, and LTE models can be especially dependent on carrier approval. A watch can also report that it is up to date while a newer build is still being staged for that particular device.

Do not factory-reset the watch or sideload firmware merely because the update is not visible.

If installation repeatedly fails

Google’s troubleshooting sequence is:

  1. Press and hold the crown and side button together for 20 seconds.
  2. Wait for the watch to reboot completely.
  3. Open Settings → Connectivity → Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth off.
  4. Open Settings → Connectivity → Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi on.
  5. Return to Settings → System → System updates and retry.

Menu names or behavior can vary slightly between software versions. If the watch is genuinely frozen during installation, do not interrupt it casually; leave it powered and charging while it completes before attempting recovery.

Was this the last Pixel Watch 1 update?

In October 2025, the release looked like the end of the first-generation watch’s scheduled update window. That is different from proving that no later software would ever ship. Google subsequently published a Pixel Watch 1 modem update on March 16, 2026, build BW1A.260305.003, with a bug fix intended to improve E911 emergency-dialing behavior. The announcement is available in Google’s March 2026 Pixel Watch 1 update notice.

The accurate support picture is therefore:

  • The October 2025 package was a security-and-bug-fix release, not Wear OS 6.
  • It arrived near the end of the stated or scheduled support period.
  • At least one additional, targeted emergency-calling fix arrived in March 2026.
  • That later fix does not establish a new monthly schedule or guarantee future releases.

Reaching the end of a scheduled support commitment does not instantly make the watch unusable. Existing apps and core functions may continue to work, but future security, compatibility and emergency-related fixes should not be presumed.

Should you replace the original Pixel Watch?

The October update alone is not a reason to replace a working watch. Keeping it is reasonable when battery life, connectivity, apps and current functions meet your needs. Replacement becomes more compelling when battery degradation, unreliable LTE or Bluetooth, incompatible apps or a desire for newer Wear OS features outweigh the cost of upgrading.

If you keep Pixel Watch 1, install the October package when it is offered and verify the resulting build. Just do not buy it—or retain it—assuming that Wear OS 6 features from Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3 are included.
