Its all-black-and-silver design is a restrained alternative to more colorful Black Bays; its main trade-off is the full-size case, which wears larger than the Black Bay 58 and Black Bay 54.
What is new about the Black Bay Monochrome?
This is the third-generation 41 mm Black Bay, updated with a thinner case profile, revised hands and crown, and a choice of bracelet or rubber strap, each with Tudor’s T-fit adjustment. The reference is 7941A1A0NU. Its defining change is visual: the black dial and bezel are paired with rhodium-plated markers and hands, without the gilt details or red bezel triangle found on some other Black Bay designs.

The dial has a light radial brush rather than a matte finish. A lollipop-shaped seconds hand, pencil-style minute hand and luminous markers preserve the model’s familiar dive-watch character while keeping the palette monochromatic. The black aluminium bezel is unidirectional, marked for 60 minutes and fitted with a luminous pearl.
Case size, thickness and wear
The stainless-steel case measures 41 mm across and is rated to 200 m. Monochrome Watches measured the 2024 model at 13.6 mm thick and approximately 50 mm from lug to lug. Tudor retains the diameter but revises the case, with thinner flanks and a more pronounced domed back. That makes the updated watch slimmer than earlier manufacture Black Bay models, though the dimensions still make it the larger-wearing choice compared with the Black Bay 58 or 54.

#1 Best Overall
- 41mm steel case with polished and satin finish
- Bidirectional rotatable bezel in steel with 24-hour graduated anodised aluminium disc
- Self-winding mechanical movement with 70 hour power reserve
Those figures are useful when assessing fit, but wrist shape and preferred coverage matter too. If a 41 mm watch with roughly 50 mm of lug-to-lug span is already near the limit of what you wear comfortably, the Black Bay 58 or 54 is the more natural family to compare. The available information establishes the Monochrome’s dimensions, not a complete current specification comparison for every 58 and 54 reference.
What METAS Master Chronometer certification means
The MT5602-U must first meet COSC certification requirements; Tudor says COSC certification is a prerequisite for the METAS process. The additional METAS testing covers the assembled watch’s precision, resistance to magnetic fields, waterproofness and power reserve. Tudor states that the required daily precision range is 0 to +5 seconds per day: the watch is not supposed to run slow against the test reference, and may run up to five seconds fast per day under the certification’s test conditions.

- Tudor Black Bay Ceramic Automatic Black Dial Men's Watch M79210CNU-0001
- Precision: Tudor says testing checks the watch at two temperatures, in six positions and at two power-reserve levels.
- Magnetism: The watch is tested for operation after exposure to a 15,000-gauss magnetic field.
- Water resistance: The certification includes testing for the model’s stated 200 m waterproofness.
- Power reserve: The movement is tested against its stated 70-hour reserve.
These are certification criteria, not a promise that every owner will see precisely the same daily rate in every wearing pattern. The available figures establish the standard and test scope; they do not constitute an independent long-term accuracy test of this specific watch.
Movement and power reserve
The automatic manufacture calibre MT5602-U runs at 4 Hz and has a silicon hairspring, a variable-inertia balance and a traversing balance bridge. Tudor specifies at least 70 hours of power reserve and describes that span as “weekend-proof”: in principle, the watch can be taken off Friday evening and put back on Monday morning without needing to be wound. The movement uses a tungsten monobloc rotor.

The combination of a long reserve and magnetic-resistance testing is useful for an everyday watch that may be rotated with others or worn around electronics. It does not remove the ordinary need to set a watch after it has been left unworn longer than its reserve, nor does the certification alone establish long-term service costs or real-world accuracy for an individual owner.
Bracelet and strap choices
Tudor offers the watch on a three-link rivet-style bracelet, a five-link bracelet or a black rubber strap. All three options include T-fit adjustment, allowing the wearer to make a tool-free fit adjustment at the clasp. The bracelet selection is a matter of look and feel: the three-link design reads more like a conventional tool-watch bracelet, while the five-link offers a more intricate, dressier appearance. The rubber option gives the otherwise steel-and-black design its most overtly sporty configuration.

Check with Tudor or an authorized local retailer for current regional pricing and availability. If buying a replacement strap separately, confirm compatibility with reference 7941A1A0NU and the clasp: Tudor’s factory rubber strap is model-specific, and a stated 22 mm lug width alone does not guarantee that an aftermarket strap will fit correctly.

Black Bay Monochrome vs. Black Bay 58 and 54
The Monochrome is the contemporary full-size choice in this comparison: its 41 mm case, approximately 50 mm lug-to-lug measurement and monochromatic styling give it more wrist presence. The Black Bay 58 and 54 are the smaller, more vintage-proportioned alternatives. Their appeal is primarily a fit and styling decision for buyers who prefer a more compact watch; the available specifications here do not support a precise, reference-by-reference table of their thickness, movement certification, water resistance or current prices.
Choose among them by trying the cases on, then comparing the exact reference’s movement and certification, bracelet or strap adjustment, water-resistance rating and local price. Do not assume a smaller case has the same movement specification or certification as this 41 mm model without checking that reference’s own details.
Is the Tudor Black Bay Monochrome worth buying?
It makes the strongest case for itself if you want a classic black dive-watch design with restrained silver details, a 41 mm presence and the added assurance of METAS testing. Its practical strengths are clearly specified: 200 m water resistance, at least 70 hours of reserve, a 0/+5-second-per-day METAS tolerance and a T-fit clasp across all three strap and bracelet configurations.
The key reason to hesitate is fit, not a shortage of technical features. At 41 mm and about 50 mm lug to lug, it will cover more wrist than the Black Bay 58 or 54, even though the updated case is thinner than earlier manufacture Black Bays. Buyers who want a smaller vintage-proportioned watch should compare those models directly; buyers who want the contemporary full-size Black Bay in its most visually restrained form will find the Monochrome’s specifications and design aligned with that brief.
