The Seiko Presage Craftsmanship Series SPB437 is a 1,500-piece collaboration inspired by Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. Its appeal is more than a film logo on a dial: Seiko connects the blue enamel, leaf-like hands, crown, case finish and case-back details to the film. That gives the watch a thoughtful design story, while its 40.5 mm case and automatic movement make it a conventional everyday watch on paper.
What the SPB437 is—and what makes it a Nausicaä watch
Seiko describes the SPB437 as a Presage Craftsmanship Series watch created with Studio Ghibli and based on Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. Seiko announced availability from March 2024; that is the release timing, not confirmation of current stock. The edition is limited to 1,500 pieces, a stated production figure rather than a count of what remains available.
The central design choice is the blue enamel dial. Seiko says its color represents the blue outfit worn by Nausicaä, and credits master craftsman Mitsuru Yokosawa and his team with making the dial. The enamel gives the watch a craft-focused connection to Presage as well as a direct link to the film.
How the film references are built into the details
- Hands and markers: Seiko describes the hands as rounded and leaf-like. White indexes and a gold-toned seconds hand provide contrast against the blue dial.
- Crown: The large, newly designed crown has a blue crystal detail intended to evoke an Ohm’s eye.
- Case: Seiko says the textured, vintage-style finish was inspired by well-worn tools in the film.
- Case back: The display back reveals the movement and depicts an image tied to the film’s ending. A gold-plated engraving reproduces the Valley of the Wind legend as Seiko presents it: “Clothed in blue robes, descending onto a golden field.”
- Strap and packaging: The cow-leather strap has an Ohm stamped on its inside tip. Seiko says its leather comes from a Leather Working Group-certified tannery. The special box carries an illustration of a film scene, and an original card bears a Japanese message attributed to director Hayao Miyazaki.
These references are distributed across the watch and its presentation rather than concentrated in a prominent character image. That makes the SPB437 a more restrained collaboration than a standard logo-led tie-in, while still giving fans several specific details to recognize.

What the movement and dimensions mean in practice
A long reserve, without a date
The 6R51 is an automatic movement that can also be wound by hand, with an approximately 72-hour power reserve. Seiko describes it as a version of the 6R55 without a date display. The simpler dial suits the SPB437’s enamel surface and keeps the design focused; the trade-off is that there is no date window for day-to-day reference.
A moderate case, but check the lug span
The published measurements—40.5 mm across, 12.4 mm thick and 47.8 mm lug-to-lug—give a useful starting point for judging fit. Diameter alone does not determine how a watch wears: the lug-to-lug span and your wrist shape matter too. These figures cannot substitute for trying it on, and Seiko’s listed 10-bar water resistance is a specification, not a reason to assume the leather strap is suited to every wet-use situation.

Is the SPB437 worth considering?
For a Nausicaä fan who wants a wearable mechanical watch rather than a purely decorative collectible, the strongest case is the combination of specific film references and established watchmaking features: enamel dial work, a no-date automatic movement with an approximately three-day reserve, sapphire crystal and 10-bar water resistance. The design story is unusually integrated, from the crown and hands to the strap stamp and engraved case back.
Whether it is worth a particular asking price depends on the seller, condition and current market; Seiko’s release details do not establish present-day price, stock or resale value. Since the announced edition size is limited, a listing’s model identity and authenticity should be checked independently. The measurements are published by Seiko’s US product page, but wrist fit remains personal.
