Early European availability was reported for August 16, followed by broader availability around Xiaomi’s September 26 launch event. In 2026, the key questions are whether a particular regional version suits you, what it costs now, and whether a newer band is a better buy.
When did the Xiaomi Smart Band 9 launch globally?
Xiaomi launched the Smart Band 9 in China on July 19, 2024. Android Authority reported that Xiaomi’s Dutch listing showed international availability from August 16, 2024, at €39.99. Broader European availability followed in September, including a UK sale promotion beginning September 26. Xiaomi’s Berlin launch event on September 26 placed the band in the wider global launch cycle, but did not establish one common release date for every country.
Availability, stock, sale dates and warranty coverage depend on the market. Xiaomi’s regional launch pages likewise caution that local availability can vary. The old “coming soon” framing is therefore outdated: the Band 9 is an established previous-generation product. (Android Authority; Xiaomi September 2024 launch; Xiaomi Chile launch page)
What did it cost at launch, and what does it cost now?
Reported launch-era prices included €39.99 in the Netherlands and £34.99 in the UK. TechRadar listed review-era retail pricing of $60, £34.99 and AU$79.99. These are historical figures, not verified August 2026 prices. Check the local Xiaomi store or an authorized retailer for today’s price, stock and warranty; compare that price with the newer Smart Band 10 before deciding. The available sources do not establish official US retail availability or local warranty coverage. Xiaomi’s US website is not, by itself, evidence that this particular band was officially sold there. US buyers should confirm who is selling the device, whether it is an import, and who handles returns and warranty claims. (Xiaomi US; About Xiaomi US)

Battery life, water resistance and tracking: what to expect
Battery claims depend on settings
Xiaomi’s 21-day figure is a controlled typical-use claim, not a guaranteed result for every owner. Xiaomi’s stated test conditions include limited measurement frequency and selected monitoring features being disabled. Always-on display, frequent workouts, continuous monitoring, notifications and repeated screen activation consume more power. The company’s own mode estimates—21 days typical, 9 days with always-on display and 6.6 days under heavy load—are a more useful guide to the trade-off than the headline number alone. (Xiaomi Singapore product page; Xiaomi global specifications)
5ATM is not permission for every water activity
Xiaomi rates the band 5ATM, but says not to use it for hot showers, hot springs, saunas or fast-paced water sports. Leather and braided straps should also be kept away from water and sweat. Treat the rating as a defined water-resistance specification, not as unlimited waterproofing. (Xiaomi Singapore product page)

No built-in GPS matters for runners
The Smart Band 9 has no built-in GPS. For route tracking outdoors, it relies on a compatible connected phone, so a runner or cyclist who wants to leave their phone behind should choose a device with onboard GPS instead. The optional running clip adds running metrics, but does not change the absence of built-in GPS. (TechRadar review; Xiaomi Singapore product page)
Health features are for wellness, not diagnosis
Heart-rate, blood-oxygen, sleep and stress readings are wellness and fitness features. Xiaomi says the band and its features are not designed for medical purposes and are not intended to diagnose, prevent or cure disease. (Xiaomi Singapore product page)

Global and Chinese versions: check NFC before buying
The Chinese lineup included NFC editions, but global launch coverage did not confirm a generally available international NFC version, and Xiaomi’s global specification sheet does not list NFC as a standard feature. Buyers should assume a commonly sold global model does not provide the Chinese NFC edition’s functionality unless the specific regional listing explicitly confirms it. Even NFC hardware does not guarantee that a local bank or payment service is supported. (Android Authority; Xiaomi global specifications; Notebookcheck)
An imported Chinese edition can also differ in firmware, language or account-region behavior, warranty and service access. Before ordering, ask the seller for the exact model number, box language, region or firmware details, NFC confirmation, warranty location and return terms. A global model is generally the simpler choice when local compatibility and support matter.

What changed from the Smart Band 8?
The Band 9’s notable refinements include a brighter display, an aluminum-alloy frame, a listed 60Hz refresh rate, vibration improvements and Xiaomi-claimed improvements to heart-rate and sleep tracking. Xiaomi also advertises longer stated battery life. Those claims should be distinguished from independently established performance: the cited specifications and product materials do not make every measurement a universal real-world improvement. For Band 8 owners who mainly use step counting, notifications and basic sleep tracking, the core experience remains the same kind of lightweight fitness band, so the upgrade is most compelling if the display or other specific refinements matter to them.
Who should consider the Smart Band 9 in 2026?
- Casual tracker: A reasonable candidate if the current local price is low and you want a light band for activity, sleep and notifications.
- Phone-carrying runner: It can track workouts, but route tracking depends on your phone; choose another device if you need onboard GPS.
- Swimmer: The 5ATM rating may suit appropriate swimming use, but it does not cover heat exposure or fast-paced water sports, and strap material matters.
- NFC-payment user: Buy only when the exact regional model and supported payment service are confirmed.
- Buyer seeking a newer model: Xiaomi’s global lineup includes the Smart Band 10 and Smart Band 9 Pro as well as the Band 9. Compare their current regional specifications and prices; the lineup alone does not prove that a particular newer model addresses every limitation.
- US buyer: Treat “global version” as a regional product description, not proof of official US distribution or local warranty.
By 2026, the Band 9 is no longer Xiaomi’s newest standard band. Whether it remains good value depends on the price you can actually buy it for and the price gap to newer models, not its 2024 launch price. Xiaomi’s current global bands directory shows the Smart Band 10, Smart Band 9 Pro, Smart Band 9 Active and Smart Band 9 in the broader lineup. (Xiaomi global bands directory)
Quick Recap
Buying checklist
- Confirm the listing says global or names the exact regional edition; do not rely on “Smart Band 9” alone.
- Check whether NFC is explicitly listed and whether the intended payment service works in your country.
- Ask for the model number and box or firmware region if the listing is unclear.
- Verify the warranty provider, return window and whether the seller is Xiaomi or an authorized local retailer.
- Confirm your phone meets the Android or iOS minimum and that the band’s region works with your Mi Fitness account region.
- Decide whether phone-dependent GPS is acceptable, then compare the current asking price with the Smart Band 10 and other suitable trackers.
