DJI Fly now lets compatible Apple Watch owners monitor and control supported flight tasks on the DJI Neo 2, DJI Neo, and DJI Flip. You still need an iPhone running DJI Fly, with the phone connected to the aircraft over Wi-Fi.
The watch can show a live preview, display aircraft battery status, and provide voice control for supported tasks. It is best understood as a wrist-based companion for hands-free shooting, not a replacement for a phone, DJI RC controller, or FPV system.

The same listing names the DJI Neo 2, original DJI Neo, and DJI Flip as supported aircraft. It does not establish that the watch exposes every control in the iPhone flight interface.
The iPhone is still required
This is the crucial qualification behind the headline. DJI’s product documentation says DJI Fly must run on both the smartphone and Apple Watch. The iPhone connects to the Neo 2, while the watch communicates through the paired phone. The watch therefore adds an interface; it does not create an independent aircraft-to-watch link.
Buying an Apple Watch does not let you operate a Neo 2 without an iPhone. Keep the phone powered, nearby, and connected throughout the flight. DJI’s Neo 2 product documentation also describes regional Wi-Fi limitations for this function.

If pairing fails
- Close DJI Fly on both devices.
- Restart the Neo 2; restart the iPhone and watch if needed.
- Re-enable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
- Open DJI Fly on the iPhone first and reconnect the phone to the aircraft.
- Reopen DJI Fly on the watch.
- Check for app and firmware updates.
For a failed firmware update, DJI recommends restarting the aircraft, remote-control equipment, goggles, and DJI Fly or DJI Assistant 2 before trying again. DJI does not document every Apple Watch-specific error message in the available material.
What the watch can—and cannot—do
Confirmed watch functions
The confirmed functions are live video transmission, battery monitoring, and voice control for supported flight tasks. Voice control supports English and Mandarin. Commands are task-limited, not unrestricted natural-language piloting; use the current in-app instructions for the exact vocabulary.
Wind, traffic, crowds, helmets, and an obstructed microphone can reduce recognition. Confirm that the aircraft has responded before relying on a command, and never treat voice control as a substitute for emergency judgment or visual line of sight.
Controls you should not assume
The available DJI material does not confirm that the watch provides full twin-stick manual flight, a dedicated Return-to-Home button, complete exposure controls, waypoint planning, every QuickShot option, or all intelligent-flight settings. It is also not presented as a replacement for DJI RC-N3, DJI RC 2, Motion Controller, or FPV hardware.
The watch preview is not the recorded file
The watch receives a constrained live preview intended for monitoring and framing. DJI notes that Apple Watch limitations can reduce live-feed resolution compared with the filming device. The drone still records its original camera file; a softer or delayed watch preview does not by itself mean the recorded footage is degraded.

Why the Neo 2 suits this feature
The Neo 2 is built around autonomous and hands-free capture. DJI lists a 151-gram aircraft with full-coverage propeller guards, palm takeoff and landing, gesture control, ActiveTrack, omnidirectional obstacle sensing, 4K video, 49 GB of built-in storage, and no microSD card slot. Maximum flight time is about 19 minutes, or about 17 minutes with propeller guards, according to DJI’s beginner guide.
That combination makes a wrist interface useful for cycling, running, hiking, skiing, travel selfies, and other shots where holding a phone is inconvenient. It is less suitable for deliberate cinematic piloting, precision framing, long-range operation, or manual camera work where physical sticks and a larger display matter.
Apple Watch versus a conventional controller
| Choose the Apple Watch interface when you need | Choose a conventional controller when you need |
|---|---|
| Hands-free status checks and quick commands | Precise manual flight and tactile feedback |
| Support for tracking and selfie-style capture | Dedicated sticks, buttons, and emergency controls |
| A wrist-based view while moving | A larger, clearer live view and advanced settings |
| Convenience at short range over the phone’s Wi-Fi link | Longer-range O4 operation where legal and appropriate |
DJI lists up to 500 metres for Wi-Fi and up to 10 kilometres for O4 under stated conditions. Those figures are transmission specifications, not ordinary legal flight distances, and they do not describe equivalent operating scenarios.

If you already own the Apple ecosystem
If you have a Series 8-or-newer Apple Watch, a compatible iPhone, and a Neo 2, the feature is a worthwhile convenience upgrade for hands-free monitoring. It is not a reason to abandon a physical controller when precision or emergency access matters.
If you would buy an Apple Watch solely for the drone
That is usually poor value. You would still need the iPhone, Neo 2, current DJI Fly software, and a supported region. A controller-inclusive drone bundle generally delivers more practical control than purchasing an Apple Watch just to operate the aircraft.

Neo 2 packages and time-sensitive prices
On a DJI Store result captured August 18, 2026, the Neo 2 drone-only package was shown at USD $229, the Fly More Drone Only package at $309, the Fly More Combo at $399, and the Motion Fly More Combo at $549. The captured page was a Canadian-store result displaying USD denominations, so verify your own regional DJI Store before relying on those prices.
- Drone only: Most logical for existing iPhone and Apple Watch owners focused on autonomous capture.
- Fly More Drone Only: Adds batteries and charging equipment without implying that a physical controller is included.
- Fly More Combo: Better for frequent outdoor use and conventional control.
- Motion Fly More Combo: Intended for FPV-style flying with DJI Motion 3 and goggles, not merely casual watch-based selfies.
The original DJI Neo was listed at USD $169 when available, although the captured page showed it out of stock. DJI’s comparison gives the Neo 135 grams and about 18 minutes of maximum flight time, versus 151 grams and about 19 minutes for Neo 2. The Neo 2 also adds a two-axis gimbal, omnidirectional sensing, faster tracking, higher-frame-rate options, gesture control, Return-to-Palm, and 49 GB storage.
For accident, flyaway, or water-damage concerns, review DJI Care Refresh. Eligibility, prices, replacement limits, and coverage vary by country and product.
Safety and regional limits still apply
A watch makes operation more convenient, not less regulated. Maintain visual line of sight, follow local airspace and remote-ID rules, observe restrictions around people, roads, airports, and protected areas, and keep access to the phone or controller. Tracking and obstacle sensing do not make it safe to leave the aircraft unattended.
Before each flight, recheck Return-to-Home altitude, maximum distance, obstacle-avoidance behavior, flight mode, recording settings, and any customized controls—especially after firmware updates.
