The update also brings the METAS Master Chronometer-certified MT5602-U movement and bracelet options with a tool-free T-fit adjustment. TUDOR introduced a separate fixed-bezel Black Bay 31/36/39/41 line that year; its specifications and styling are different.
What changed on the 2023 Black Bay 41?
The burgundy-bezel diver is reference M7941A1A0RU. Its design update is evolutionary: the familiar 41 mm Black Bay outline remains, with a thinner case profile described by TUDOR, plus revised movement credentials and expanded bracelet and strap choices. TUDOR does not provide a predecessor-to-successor thickness measurement in the cited specifications, so the difference should be understood as the manufacturer’s description rather than a specific millimetre reduction.

The diver’s familiar proportions remain
The stainless-steel case measures 41 mm and has polished and satin finishes. It is paired with a black domed dial, domed sapphire crystal, and a burgundy 60-minute unidirectional bezel with an aluminium insert. The screw-down winding crown and 200 m water resistance preserve the model’s practical diver configuration. TUDOR’s product specifications identify these details for reference M7941A1A0RU.
A slimmer profile, without a documented dimension delta
TUDOR says the case profile is thinner while retaining the “Original” Black Bay’s 41 mm proportions. That signals a refinement to the way the watch wears and reads on the wrist, rather than a smaller case or a different design category. Because the cited material does not give a measured comparison with the prior reference, it does not support a precise thickness reduction.

- 41mm steel case with polished and satin finish
- Bidirectional rotatable bezel in steel with 24-hour graduated anodised aluminium disc
- Self-winding mechanical movement with 70 hour power reserve
The movement and accuracy claims
The watch uses Manufacture Calibre MT5602-U, a self-winding movement with a bidirectional rotor system. TUDOR lists both COSC chronometer certification and METAS Master Chronometer certification, and specifies a 70-hour power reserve. The brand’s current Black Bay family information states a fully assembled-watch tolerance of 0/+5 seconds per day. These are manufacturer-stated specifications and certification claims, not independent measurements by this article. The product page and TUDOR’s watchmaking information describe the movement and testing approach.
Bracelets, rubber strap, and T-fit
TUDOR offers the 41 mm burgundy model with either a satin-brushed three-link steel bracelet, a brushed-and-polished five-link steel bracelet, or a fitted black rubber strap. The two bracelet styles change the visual character: the three-link option reads more traditionally sporty, while the five-link has a more detailed, dressier surface. TUDOR lists these as configurations for the same diver rather than separate watch models.

Both bracelet choices use T-fit, TUDOR’s tool-free clasp adjustment system. The manufacturer describes five positions across an 8 mm adjustment window, allowing the wearer to alter bracelet length without removing links or using a tool. TUDOR’s current Black Bay information explains the system and its stated adjustment range.
How it differs from the 2023 fixed-bezel Black Bay 31/36/39/41
The burgundy diver was not TUDOR’s only Black Bay launch in 2023. The separate Black Bay 31/36/39/41 collection has a fixed bezel and a more polished, versatile design direction. Its case sizes are 31, 36, 39, and 41 mm, with curved case forms and a five-link bracelet. Dial choices included blue, anthracite, and light champagne, with diamond-set variants in some sizes. The collection’s 100 m water resistance and movement specifications should not be transferred to the burgundy diver.

| Feature | Black Bay 41 burgundy diver | Black Bay 31/36/39/41 fixed-bezel line |
|---|---|---|
| Bezel | 60-minute unidirectional bezel with burgundy aluminium insert | Fixed bezel |
| Case sizes | 41 mm | 31, 36, 39, and 41 mm |
| Water resistance | 200 m | 100 m, as reported by Hodinkee’s March 27, 2023 launch coverage |
| Design emphasis | Diver-style tool-watch configuration, black domed dial | More polished and versatile styling; sunray dials in blue, anthracite, and light champagne, with some diamond-set options |
| Bracelet | Three-link or five-link steel bracelet; fitted black rubber strap also offered | Five-link bracelet with T-fit rapid adjustment |
| Power reserve | 70 hours, per TUDOR’s specification for MT5602-U | Approximately 50 hours for the 31 mm model and approximately 70 hours for larger models, according to Hodinkee’s March 27, 2023 report |
TUDOR’s 2023 press materials describe the four fixed-bezel sizes and their design; Hodinkee’s March 27, 2023 report supplies the reported water-resistance and reserve figures. These are distinct collections: the fixed-bezel line is not simply a smaller or dressier version of the burgundy diver, and the two should be compared by intended use as well as dimensions.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the update means for choosing one
- Choose the burgundy-bezel 41 if you want a 200 m diver-style Black Bay with a timing bezel, black dial, and a movement carrying both COSC and METAS Master Chronometer certifications stated by TUDOR.
- Consider the bracelet configuration as part of the design: three-link for a more straightforward sport look, five-link for more visual polish, or rubber for a strap option.
- Look at the fixed-bezel 31/36/39/41 family if you want a smaller case choice or a more polished watch without a rotating timing bezel.
TUDOR’s 2023 product sheet also stated a five-year transferable guarantee without registration or periodic maintenance checks, and recommended service approximately every ten years depending on model and daily use. Warranty and service terms can vary or change by region, so confirm the current terms with TUDOR for the market where the watch is purchased. TUDOR’s guarantee information provides current guidance.
