The Abinger Nimrod is a compact automatic watch designed to bridge everyday wear, adventure and travel. Its defining choice is a 12-hour bezel for reading a second time zone—not the elapsed-time bezel used on a conventional dive watch. Fratello reviewer Thomas Van Straaten found the debut neat, comfortable and thoughtfully finished, though the bezel’s travel-first function will not suit everyone.
What is the Abinger Nimrod?
The Nimrod is the first watch from Abinger Watches. In a hands-on review published by Fratello on 20 September 2025, Thomas Van Straaten describes it as a compact, versatile diver and travel companion. The concept combines a stated 200 m water-resistance rating with a 12-hour bezel intended to track another time zone.
Abinger’s official company page says the UK brand was founded in Malmesbury by Zoe, Tom and Holly. The name Abinger, the page explains, pays tribute to Tom’s late father-in-law, who introduced him to horology.

How the 12-hour bezel works—and what it cannot do
To use the bezel for a second time zone, set its 12-hour marker against the hour hand for the additional location. The hour hand then indicates that location’s hour against the bezel scale, while the dial continues to show local time. Because the scale repeats every 12 hours, it does not distinguish morning from evening; use a separate time reference if that distinction matters.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
This is a practical travel function, but it is a different tool from a standard unidirectional elapsed-time dive bezel. The Nimrod’s bezel is not intended to time a dive by counting elapsed minutes. That trade-off is central to the watch’s identity: it prioritizes a second time zone over conventional dive timing.
Dial, case and bracelet details
Van Straaten reports three sunburst dial choices: green Herne, brown Ardent Fell and black Nightfire. He describes molded ceramic hour markers with BGW9 lume and Arabic numerals, including a distinctive curly six. The crystal is sapphire with an internal anti-reflective coating, and the display back is also sapphire. These construction details are reported in the Fratello review.

The review describes a 316L steel case with a hard coating rated at 1,200 HV, a DLC-coated steel bezel insert, and a brushed case and bracelet accented by a polished rear chamfer. The coating figure is a reported rating; without a cited test method or comparative test, it should not be read as proof of a particular scratch-resistance advantage.
Van Straaten says the short H-links, toolless micro-adjustment clasp and quick-release bracelet pins made the bracelet especially convenient to wear and adjust. Those are his hands-on impressions, not WatchRanker’s independent test findings. Abinger’s instructions recommend professional bracelet adjustment and specify compatibility with 20 mm straps.

What the hands-on review found
Van Straaten found the watch neat, clean and subdued. He says its modest dimensions made it comfortable and easy to forget on the wrist, a useful quality for a watch intended to move between daily wear and travel. He also praised the bracelet’s short links and adjustment features.
His reservation was the 12-hour bezel. He understood why it fit the travel-oriented concept, but personally would have preferred a different bezel choice. That is a matter of taste, not a defect: buyers who want a second-time-zone display may consider it the point, while those seeking conventional elapsed-time dive timing should look elsewhere.

The design story behind the Nimrod
According to Van Straaten, founder Tom Howison Hill first envisaged a fixed-bezel, time-only watch before the concept developed into a travel-oriented diver. The name Nimrod draws on two reported inspirations: a modified anti-submarine aircraft and Ernest Shackleton’s Nimrod expedition. The curly numeral six reflects Hill’s interest in fabrics and interior design, including William Morris, as well as the six on his Glashütte Original SeaQ grail watch. These are design origins recounted in the review.
The brand’s tagline, quoted by Fratello, is “Designed for anything. Built for anyone.” Van Straaten also reports Hill’s description of the brushed case and bracelet finish as “Business at the front. Party in the back.”

Price and availability: check current terms
Fratello’s 20 September 2025 review gave a £650 price and said presale orders were open, with delivery expected in March 2026. Those were launch-era terms, not confirmation of today’s price, stock or delivery timing. Abinger’s watches page continues to list the Nimrod in its range, but that listing does not establish current availability or purchase terms. Check Abinger’s current product page directly before deciding.
Who should consider the Abinger Nimrod?
- A strong fit: someone seeking a modestly sized automatic with a second-time-zone display, a stated 200 m water-resistance rating and a bracelet designed for practical adjustment.
- Think carefully: if you want a conventional dive bezel for tracking elapsed minutes, the Nimrod’s 12-hour scale serves a different purpose.
- Verify before buying: current price, stock and delivery terms were not established by the launch-era review or the brand’s general watches listing.
On the evidence available, the Nimrod is a coherent debut with a clear travel-first point of difference and compact dimensions. Whether that difference makes it the right watch depends largely on whether you want a second time zone more than a traditional dive-timing bezel.
