The June 10, 2025 report described a reference to the product name in the first iOS 26 developer beta—not a confirmation of its specifications or launch date. Apple’s announcement and current U.S. store listing provide the definitive update.
What did the iOS 26 beta reveal?
On June 10, 2025, 9to5Mac reported finding the name “AirPods Pro 3” in code associated with the first iOS 26 developer beta. That was a software reference to a product name, not a product announcement. The original report did not establish final hardware, price, release timing, or which rumored features would ship.
A named reference in Apple software was more concrete than an anonymous prediction: it suggested Apple’s software teams were preparing for, or at least accounting for, a product called AirPods Pro 3. But code can point toward planned support without guaranteeing that a product will ship exactly as expected. It cannot, on its own, prove final retail naming, specifications, or timing.
How the “this fall” prediction turned out
“This fall” meant fall 2025 in the original coverage, not fall 2026. The sequence was straightforward: the beta reference was reported on June 10, 2025; Apple announced AirPods Pro 3 on September 9; and retail availability began September 19. Apple lists the earbuds at $249 in the United States as of August 18, 2026. Apple Newsroom

What Apple actually released
AirPods Pro 3 arrived with a redesigned fit and five silicone-tip sizes, including XXS. Apple says their Active Noise Cancellation removes up to twice as much noise as AirPods Pro 2 and up to four times as much as the original AirPods Pro and AirPods 4 with ANC. Those are Apple’s test claims, not independent measurements. Apple’s technical specifications

Battery life depends on factors such as volume, mode, features, fit, charging cycles, and use. The IP57 rating describes a resistance classification, not unlimited or permanent protection; follow Apple’s care guidance.
What the beta did not reveal
The name reference did not establish heart-rate monitoring, temperature sensing, camera-equipped earbuds, AI features, a major acoustic redesign, a new charging case, a higher price, or a second premium model. Some of those ideas circulated in separate rumor cycles, but they should not be retroactively attributed to the iOS 26 code discovery.

For example, a later report discussed a possible higher-end, camera-equipped AirPods model for fall 2026. That is a separate rumor, not evidence that the June 2025 beta reference described cameras or an “Ultra” version. 9to5Mac’s February 2026 roundup

Not every headline feature works with every phone or in every country. Live Translation requires AirPods Pro 3 paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone running iOS 26 or later, and is limited by supported languages and regions. Hearing features depend on regional availability and regulatory authorization. Workout heart-rate sensing is designed for the Fitness app and compatible third-party iPhone apps. Check Apple’s requirements and the iOS 26 feature guide for current support details.

Heart-rate sensing and hearing features should not be treated as a substitute for professional medical equipment or evaluation. Apple’s developer documentation also says AirPods beta firmware cannot be removed once installed; it remains until a later non-beta firmware replaces it. Joining an AirPods beta program is not a way to obtain unreleased hardware. Apple Developer beta-software support
Should AirPods Pro 2 owners upgrade?
Consider upgrading if you will use the new features
- You want workout heart-rate sensing or hearing-health features that are available where you live.
- The revised fit, extra tip size, case speaker, or longer stated listening time addresses a real need.
- You have a compatible iPhone and will use the features that depend on Apple software and services.
Keep your current pair if it already does the job
- You are satisfied with AirPods Pro 2’s fit and noise cancellation and do not need the newer functions.
- You would be buying mainly for Live Translation or hearing features but lack the required phone, software, language, or regional support.
- You are waiting specifically for a camera-equipped model. Later reports are rumors, not a confirmed successor or reason to assume a launch date.
For buyers who mainly want Apple pairing and everyday listening at a lower price, Apple lists AirPods 4 at $129 for the standard model and $179 for the ANC model. The open-fit AirPods 4 are a different fit from the silicone-seal Pro design; the ANC version does not list the Pro 3’s heart-rate sensing or Pro hearing feature set. What the leak is worth now
The June 2025 beta reference was a credible clue that Apple was preparing for AirPods Pro 3, and the subsequent launch validated the product prediction. It was not a specification sheet or proof of every feature later attached to the rumor. For a purchase decision today, the announced product, your device compatibility, regional feature availability, and the features you will actually use matter more than the old leak.
