Yes—for casual walks, runs and rides, the Amazfit Bip 3 Pro’s built-in GPS is good enough to record routes and estimate distance without your phone. One independent test found a close match against a much more expensive Garmin, but that is not proof of accuracy in every setting. The Pro’s heart-rate readings are less dependable, and it lacks maps and advanced training tools. In 2026, buy it only if it is clearly cheaper than a newer GPS watch and the battery condition is sound.
What the Bip 3 Pro’s GPS does—and does not—do
The Bip 3 Pro has its own satellite receiver, so it can record an outdoor workout when you leave your phone behind. Amazfit’s Japan-region specifications list GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and QZSS. The standard Bip 3 instead uses connected-phone GPS, making the Pro the relevant model if phone-free tracking matters. Amazfit’s Bip 3 Pro specifications describe the satellite systems; TechRadar’s review distinguishes the Pro from the standard Bip 3.
Phone-free recording is not the same as being fully independent of a phone. Setup and detailed workout review rely on the Zepp app, and syncing before exercise can help update assisted GPS (AGPS) data. The watch records the workout; the app is where you synchronize and review it. Amazfit’s user manual covers app connection, while its GPS guidance recommends syncing and waiting for a successful fix.
A route-recording GPS watch is not necessarily a navigation watch. The Bip 3 Pro’s available specifications and review evidence do not establish on-watch maps, turn-by-turn directions or route planning. If you need those features, look at a device that explicitly provides them.

How accurate is the GPS?
The best specific result in the available independent testing is encouraging but limited: TechRadar reported that an 11 km run came within about 20 metres of a Garmin Forerunner 965, and that the Bip 3 Pro acquired a GPS signal in roughly 10–20 seconds in that tester’s conditions. This suggests it can record respectable distance and location on a suitable route; it is one review test, not a universal error rate or a guarantee for other routes, firmware or environments. TechRadar’s test and review provide the context.
Buildings, dense trees, narrow streets and steep-sided valleys can obstruct satellite signals or reflect them, producing slower acquisition or a less faithful track. The available test does not quantify how much those environments affect this model. For ordinary open-air routes, the evidence supports considering it for distance and route records; for demanding city or mountain use, expect greater uncertainty.
Who is it good enough for?
| Use | Verdict | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Walking and casual jogging | Yes, for basic route and distance records | The independent open-route result is promising, with the usual signal and test limitations. |
| Recreational running | Usually, if distance matters more than training data | GPS may be adequate, but heart-rate readings and training features are weaker parts of the package. |
| Serious running or race training | Usually not | Unreliable moment-to-moment heart-rate readings can undermine zones, intervals and training decisions; advanced metrics are limited. |
| Casual cycling | For basic ride route and distance | It can record outdoor workouts, but is not a substitute for a dedicated cycling computer or navigation device. |
| Hiking | Only for basic recording on familiar routes | Do not rely on it for maps, turn-by-turn directions or navigation. |
GPS and heart-rate performance are separate questions. In its review, TechRadar found patchy heart-rate readings, including implausible spikes during ordinary activity and errors of roughly 15–20 beats per minute during parts of a run. The average over an hour was close to a Garmin reference, but the maximum and changing readings were less dependable. That makes the watch a poor choice if you use heart-rate zones, interval measurements or recovery decisions to guide training. The independent review describes those observations.
How to get a better GPS fix
- Before heading out, open Zepp and let the watch sync. If the app or watch indicates an AGPS update, allow it to complete; assisted data can help the watch acquire satellites sooner.
- Start the outdoor workout while you are outside. Choose a relatively open spot rather than standing beside tall buildings or under heavy tree cover.
- Wait for the watch to confirm positioning before moving. Starting the timer before a fix can leave the beginning of the route incomplete or distort the opening distance.
- If acquisition keeps failing, change location and try again. Move somewhere with a clearer view of the sky. Amazfit’s GPS guidance recommends waiting for successful positioning and moving to an open area when the signal flickers. Amazfit GPS guidance
- If a track looks implausible, sync before the next workout. Reopen Zepp and allow the watch to connect. A restart and retry in a clearer location are reasonable troubleshooting steps; exact app labels can vary by version and regional firmware.
Battery life: claims versus tested use
Amazfit’s Japan-region listing specifies a 280 mAh battery and claims up to two weeks of ordinary use; that is a manufacturer maximum, not a promise for frequent GPS sessions. It also lists about two hours to charge. Amazfit’s regional specifications

TechRadar reported about 10 days in lighter everyday use and a little over six days with roughly an hour of GPS exercise on most days. It also extrapolated about 16 hours of continuous GPS use from a 45-minute session that used 4% battery. That GPS figure is a reviewer’s estimate, not an official endurance rating; display use, sensors, signal conditions, temperature and battery condition can all change runtime. TechRadar’s battery testing
The model launched in June 2022, so a unit bought in 2026 may have spent years in storage or already been used. Lithium-ion batteries naturally lose capacity with age and use, but no Bip 3 Pro-specific battery-health rate is established here. For used or old stock, favor a seller with a credible return window and test the battery promptly rather than assuming the original claim still applies.

Amazfit’s Japan-region specifications list a 1.69-inch TFT touchscreen at 240 × 280, about 33.2 g without the band, 5 ATM water resistance, more than 60 sports modes and a BioTracker 2.0 PPG sensor. The same listing gives Android 7.0 or later and iOS 12.0 or later as compatibility requirements; check local specifications and app support for your region before buying. The light plastic construction and TFT screen are functional rather than premium, particularly beside newer watches with AMOLED displays. Heart-rate, blood-oxygen, sleep and stress readings are wellness estimates, not medical measurements. Fit, movement and other conditions can affect sensor results, so do not use them as a substitute for medical equipment or advice.

Expect basic notifications and fitness functions, not a full smartwatch ecosystem: the cited sources do not establish cellular connectivity, a broad third-party app platform, on-watch maps or advanced training analytics. Water resistance is rated at 5 ATM; that does not mean the watch is suitable for diving or high-pressure water activities.
Is it still worth buying in 2026?
Value depends on the price, condition and seller—not the original launch price. TechRadar reported launch pricing of about $69.99 in the US, £69.99 in the UK and AU$119 in Australia in 2022; those are historical figures, not current prices. TechRadar’s review
For a US buyer, Amazfit’s Bip 6 page listed the newer model at $79.99 when checked for this article. Its official listing claims five satellite systems, downloadable maps, an AMOLED display and up to 14 days of battery life. Those are manufacturer claims and page details that may change; check the current listing and regional availability. If a Bip 3 Pro costs close to that price, the Bip 6 is the more defensible new purchase for its newer feature set. Amazfit Bip 6 US listing
The Bip 5 is another built-in-GPS option: Amazfit’s US listing describes four satellite systems and a 10-day battery claim, while the page showed prices from $59.99 to $89.99 and some variants marked as coming soon. Availability and price therefore need checking before purchase. The Bip 5 Unity is not equivalent for phone-free tracking: Amazfit’s US page says it uses connected-phone GPS rather than built-in GPS.
