The Angelus Datalarm is a vintage mechanical alarm wristwatch with a date display. Angelus says it presented the model in 1957 and describes it as the first alarm wristwatch with a date; a 2016 collectors guide places its market arrival around 1957–58. Those are attributed historical claims, not independently established proof of priority.
What is the Angelus Datalarm?
The Datalarm combines a mechanical alarm and a date indication in a wristwatch. Angelus says it was produced over many years in different dial and case designs, so “Datalarm” does not identify one universal configuration. The reference, dial, case and movement of the individual watch matter.
Angelus’s heritage chronology dates the model’s presentation to 1957. The 2016 Angelus Collectors Guide describes it as reaching the market around 1957–58 and identifies reference 10/11 among early versions.
References and historical variants
Early wristwatch versions
The collectors guide identifies ref. 10/11 as the first version. A reference marking can help narrow down an example, but it should be considered alongside the dial, case and movement; the available sources do not provide a complete official catalogue for confirming every configuration.

World-time dial
The guide dates a world-time dial version to 1967 and reports two versions, with city names including Paris or Stockholm. These are collector-guide descriptions of variants, not a complete production record.
Pocket-watch and clock formats
The guide also reports that Datalarm versions were sold in pocket-watch and alarm-clock formats from around 1960. These forms are distinct from the wristwatch and should not be assumed to be equally common.

Movement and alarm operation
A specialist article by Fratello Watches associates the wristwatch with the ASSA AS 1475 movement family. It describes the movement as manual-wind, with separate barrels for timekeeping and the alarm, and says it was made by ASSA rather than being an Angelus in-house calibre.
For the AS 1475 description in that article, the reported rate is 18,000 vibrations per hour, timekeeping reserve is roughly 46 hours, and the alarm lasts about 12 seconds. The article also reports 17- and 21-jewel versions. These figures describe the movement or versions discussed there; they should not be applied automatically to every Datalarm. Check the actual movement and markings.

The article describes the alarm hammer striking a pin on the inside of the case back to make its sound. If an example has been stored for a long time, or its movement and setting procedure are uncertain, have a watchmaker identify and inspect it before winding or operating the alarm.
How to assess a Datalarm example
Because the model appeared in multiple configurations and the available references do not amount to a complete catalogue, assess the specific watch rather than relying on the model name alone. Ask for clear photographs, details and service evidence where available.

- Identity: Record the reference, dial variant and whether the object is a wristwatch, pocket watch or clock.
- Movement: Ask for the calibre and jewel marking, and whether the movement has been identified and inspected.
- Condition and originality: Examine the case, dial, hands, crowns and other parts for condition and any evidence that components have been replaced. Request supporting photographs rather than treating a listing description as proof.
- Function: Ask separately about timekeeping and alarm operation; a working alarm does not by itself establish the watch’s overall condition.
- Service: Look for dated service documentation and clarify what work it records.
- Measurements: Verify the actual case dimensions and lug width before buying accessories or comparing examples.
A Watchnet listing describes one stainless-steel example with a 35 mm case and an 18 mm strap width. Those measurements apply to that listed watch, not necessarily to other Datalarms. Measure the individual watch before ordering a strap; the listing is one example, not a universal specification.

Angelus provides the model’s 1957 presentation date and its claim that the date-equipped Datalarm was a first for alarm wristwatches. The 2016 collectors guide adds the approximate 1957–58 market period and reports the variants described above. Fratello’s article supplies secondary-source movement details. Together, these sources help identify the model and questions to ask, but they do not establish a complete catalogue, universal dimensions, production totals or current market values.

Readers looking to identify a particular reference, such as 14/11/B, should compare its markings and physical features with reliable specialist documentation and request movement and case photographs. A community question about that reference appears on Reddit, but a discussion thread is not an official identification record.
