Set an ordinary alarm in the Apple Watch Alarms app; use Sleep schedule controls for a recurring wake-up alarm. Silent Mode can leave wrist taps on while silencing sound, and an iPhone Clock alarm can alert on Apple Watch when Push Alerts from iPhone is enabled.
Choose the alarm type that matches your need, then check its settings if you miss an alert. Here’s how to create and manage alarms, change just the next wake-up, and troubleshoot sound or haptic issues without assuming every failure has the same cause.
How do I set an alarm on Apple Watch?
Open the Alarms app, tap Add, select AM or PM if shown, set the hour and minute with the Digital Crown, and confirm. You can then enable the alarm and choose whether it repeats.
- Open the Alarms app on Apple Watch.
- Tap Add.
- Select AM or PM if your watch uses a 12-hour clock.
- Tap the hour or minute and adjust it with the Digital Crown.
- Confirm the alarm, then check that its switch is on.
To repeat an alarm, open it and choose the days. You can also label it, configure snooze and snooze duration, and choose whether it breaks through Silent Mode. Siri can set alarms by voice, including repeating alarms. See Apple’s instructions for adding an Apple Watch alarm.

How do I change a Sleep wake-up alarm?
Sleep schedule wake-up alarms are separate from ordinary alarms. On Apple Watch, open Sleep and use the Wake Up Alarm controls to change or disable the next wake-up. The change applies to that next alarm; the regular schedule resumes afterward. The Sleep controls also offer Skip for Tonight for the scheduled wake-up.
To change the recurring schedule instead, open its schedule controls and adjust the active days, bedtime, wake time, and alarm options. You can make multiple schedules for different days, such as weekdays and weekends.
How do I change only tomorrow’s wake-up on iPhone?
In the iPhone Clock app, change the next wake-up alarm associated with your Health sleep schedule. Choose Change Next Alarm Only for a one-time adjustment; choose Change This Schedule only when you intend to alter the recurring schedule. Apple explains the distinction in its guide to changing a wake-up alarm in Clock.

Will Apple Watch alarms work in Silent Mode?
Silent Mode can silence alarm sound while allowing haptic alerts. For an ordinary alarm that should make sound even with Silent Mode on, enable Break Through Silent Mode in that alarm’s settings. Sleep wake-up alarm sound and vibration have their own controls.
To make an alarm wrist-tap-only, turn on Silent Mode and make sure haptic alerts are not off. Adjust volume and haptics in Settings > Sounds & Haptics. Apple’s audio and notification settings guide describes the available controls. Do Not Disturb suppresses calls and alerts other than alarms, and the sleep wake-up alarm is not silenced by the Cover to Mute gesture.

- Check the alarm: In Alarms, confirm it is enabled and has the right time and repeat days.
- Check Sleep: Confirm the wake-up alarm is enabled for the schedule and was not skipped for tonight. For a one-time change, use the next-alarm control rather than changing the recurring schedule unintentionally.
- Check sound and haptics: Review Silent Mode, Break Through Silent Mode for a standard alarm, alert volume, and haptic settings.
- Check wrist contact: For haptic alerts, Apple advises a snug but comfortable fit with the watch back in contact with skin.
- Check iPhone mirroring: If the alarm is in iPhone Clock, verify Push Alerts from iPhone in the iPhone Watch app under My Watch > Clock.
If these checks do not resolve a device-specific failure, consult current Apple Watch support guidance rather than assuming a particular cause or fix.
