Apple Watch band compatibility depends on the case-size group printed on the band listing, not simply whether the band is older or newer. Apple lists 42mm bands for 42mm, 44mm, and 45mm cases, and 46mm bands for 44mm, 45mm, and 46mm cases—so 44mm and 45mm bands are listed as compatible with both Series 10 case sizes.
Before wearing a band, slide it into place until you feel and hear a click. Apple Support says not to wear the watch if the band slides.

Will my old Apple Watch band fit Series 10?

Can I use a 42mm band on the 42mm Series 10?
Yes. Apple lists 42mm bands as compatible with 42mm, 44mm, and 45mm cases, which includes the 42mm Series 10. Compatibility still depends on the individual band fitting and locking correctly.
How to check and install a band safely
- Identify your case size. Check whether your Series 10 is the 42mm or 46mm model.
- Read the band’s compatibility group. Use Apple’s listed size groups rather than relying on a vague “Apple Watch compatible” claim.
- Slide the band into place. Insert it with the text facing you and continue until you feel and hear a click, following Apple Support’s instructions.
- Check the lock. If the band does not lock, center it and retry gently. Do not force it.
- Do not wear a sliding band. Apple advises against wearing the watch if the band slides.
When comparing alternatives, consider the listed case-size compatibility, material and style, how the band adjusts to your wrist, and whether the connector locks securely. Apple’s store categorizes options such as Sport Band and Sport Loop; its catalog is not an endorsement of third-party products.
