Apple Watch Series 6: quick verdict
- Best reason to buy: a lower-cost way to get core Apple Watch functions, including an always-on display and ECG where available.
- Biggest risk: battery condition varies by used unit, and the model is excluded from watchOS 27.
- Software position: Series 6 cannot install watchOS 27. Check Apple’s current update guidance for the software available to your particular watch and iPhone.
- Buying advice: compare dated local listings for the same size and GPS or cellular configuration. Factor in battery condition, return rights, warranty, and any needed service.
Series 6 may still suit someone who needs basic Apple Watch functions and finds a clean, tested unit at a clearly lower price than a newer compatible model. It is not the right choice for a buyer who needs the latest watchOS features.

Design, sizes, and hardware
Case sizes and display
Series 6 came in 40 mm and 44 mm cases. Apple lists a 324 × 394-pixel display with 759 square mm of area for the 40 mm model, and a 368 × 448-pixel display with 977 square mm of area for the 44 mm model. Both use an always-on Retina LTPO OLED display rated at 1,000 nits.
Materials and connectivity
Series 6 was available in aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium configurations. It came in GPS and GPS + Cellular variants; cellular connectivity requires a compatible carrier and plan. Confirm the exact size, material, and connectivity before purchase rather than relying on a listing title.

Health, safety, and fitness features
Series 6 includes an electrical heart sensor for the ECG app, heart-rate monitoring, and fitness features. Availability and requirements for ECG and irregular-rhythm notifications depend on software, the paired iPhone, and region. Apple says ECG is not intended for people under 22. These features are screening and wellness tools, not a diagnosis or substitute for clinical care.
Software support and iPhone compatibility
Apple’s current compatibility guidance excludes Series 6 from watchOS 27. Apple dates the watchOS 27 release to September 14, 2026. See Apple’s watchOS compatibility information before buying if current software features matter.
The available research does not establish a guaranteed end date for security updates to older supported software, so do not assume a specific security-support cutoff. The Series 6 baseline compatibility table lists iPhone 6s or later with iOS 14 or later and watchOS 7 or later; Apple’s footnote says upgrading to watchOS 11 requires iPhone XS or later with iOS 18 or later. Requirements change, so check Apple’s iPhone and Apple Watch compatibility table and current update guidance for your specific phone and watch.

Used and refurbished buying checklist
- Confirm the configuration. Check whether the watch is 40 mm or 44 mm and GPS or GPS + Cellular. Cellular use requires compatible carrier support and a service plan.
- Remove Activation Lock before paying. Ask the seller to unpair the watch and let you begin pairing. Do not complete the sale if setup requests the previous owner’s Apple Account credentials.
- Check battery health. Inspect Battery Health on the watch and look for a service warning. Apple’s “up to 18 hours” rating does not describe the current condition of a particular used battery.
- Test the watch. Check the display, touch response, Digital Crown, side button, charging, microphone, speaker, and sensors. Inspect for cracks or signs of water damage.
- Confirm what is included. Check for the magnetic charging cable, and review return terms and any warranty.
- Compare the complete cost. Weigh the listing against newer Apple Watch models that support watchOS 27, including any service costs and the seller’s protections.
How to decide if the price is fair
The sources gathered for this guide do not establish a reliable current-market average or fixed fair-price threshold for Series 6. Compare dated listings for the same size and connectivity, and judge the full offer rather than the headline price.

What should I check before buying a used Series 6?
Confirm its size and GPS or cellular configuration, have the seller remove Activation Lock, inspect Battery Health, test the display and controls, check what accessories are included, and review the return policy and warranty.
The bottom line
Buy the Apple Watch Series 6 only if its verified condition and lower total cost compensate for its age and its exclusion from watchOS 27. Confirm battery health, Activation Lock removal, iPhone compatibility, configuration, and seller protection. If you need the latest watchOS features, choose a compatible newer model instead.
