What Apple Watch Ultra 3 introduced
Satellite communications
Ultra 3 has built-in two-way satellite communications. When cellular and Wi-Fi are unavailable, users can contact emergency services, send messages, and share their location. Apple says Emergency SOS via satellite does not require a cellular plan; messaging and Find My location sharing do require an active cellular plan. Apple included satellite features for two years after activation. Connection availability and response times depend on location and site conditions.
LTPO3 display with thinner borders
Apple described Ultra 3 as having the largest screen in an Apple Watch at launch. Its LTPO3 wide-angle OLED has borders 24 percent thinner than the previous design without changing the case size. The always-on display can refresh once per second, enabling a visible ticking seconds hand.

5G cellular
Ultra 3 added 5G cellular capability in supported markets and on supported carriers with a wireless service plan. Apple says the watch can use both system antennas together when needed to improve reception in weaker coverage. Actual service depends on carrier, plan, network, region, and signal.
Battery and fast charging
Apple’s launch estimates for Ultra 3 are:
- Up to 42 hours of ordinary use;
- Up to 72 hours in Low Power Mode;
- Up to 20 hours of continuous outdoor workout tracking in Low Power Mode with full GPS and heart-rate readings; and
- Up to 12 hours of battery life from 15 minutes of fast charging.
These are Apple estimates, not guaranteed results. Battery life varies with use and configuration.
Hypertension notifications, not blood-pressure readings
Ultra 3 can notify users about possible signs of chronic high blood pressure. The system analyzes optical-heart-sensor data for consistent signs over 30-day periods, but it is not a blood-pressure cuff, does not provide a blood-pressure reading, and will not detect every instance of hypertension. A notification is not a diagnosis. Apple recommends logging blood pressure for seven days with a third-party cuff after a notification and sharing the results with a healthcare provider.

Sleep Score and Workout Buddy

Workout Buddy is an Apple Intelligence-powered Workout app feature. Apple says it requires a nearby Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone and Bluetooth headphones, with the device and Siri language set to English. Availability also depends on compatible devices and software.
Water resistance and diving
Ultra 3 has a 100-meter water-resistance rating and supports recreational scuba diving to 40 meters with a compatible third-party app. Apple says not to use it below 40 meters and cautions that water resistance can diminish over time. Oceanic+ dive-computer functionality requires a subscription. Apple recommends diving with a companion and a secondary device.

| Outdoor workout battery claim | Up to 20 hours in Low Power Mode with full GPS and heart-rate readings | Up to 45 hours of outdoor workout tracking |
Apple also announced a redesigned iPhone Health app with a Longevity tab and Health Age feature planned for later in 2026, plus Audio Intelligence features planned later in the year. Some functions require an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, and availability can vary by region or language. These are not all Ultra 4-only watch features.

Ultra 4 is now the announced successor, but the right choice depends on price, availability, and which features matter to you. Apple announced both generations at a U.S. starting price of $799; that does not establish their current street prices.

Ultra 3 may suit you if
- You want its confirmed satellite communications, 5G, LTPO3 display, or outdoor features;
- You find it at a price and availability that work for you; or
- You do not need Ultra 4’s announced Health Sensing System or higher outdoor workout tracking claim.
For band or charging accessories, compare listings carefully. A replacement band for Apple Watch Ultra 3 or an Apple Watch magnetic fast charger USB-C cable may be useful, but check compatibility and current stock before buying.
Consider Ultra 4 if
- You want the announced S11 chip and new Health Sensing System;
- You are interested in higher-frequency heart-rate and heart-rate-variability measurements or the readiness score; or
- Its up-to-45-hour outdoor workout tracking claim better fits your needs.
Do not assume that either watch measures blood pressure directly. Ultra 3’s hypertension feature provides notifications, while Ultra 4’s announced health features do not establish cuff-style blood-pressure measurement or glucose monitoring.
