That is a meaningful signal for Casio, not proof of a market-wide boom in Y2K watches.
What evidence shows that Y2K-style watches are trending again?
The clearest sales evidence comes from Casio itself. In its FY2026 third-quarter results briefing, the company said sales of iconic 5600-style models increased in the youth segment, driven by the retro trend. It also reported worldwide growth in CASIO WATCH sales and said the A159 and AQ-240 delivered strong sales amid young people’s interest in retro and vintage items. These are company-reported directional results; Casio did not publish a separate unit-sales figure for these models in the cited briefing.
Fashion coverage points to renewed visibility, rather than measuring purchases. Vogue India’s 2025 feature on Casio Vintage describes digital Casios appearing in street style, film, and fashion, and names watches such as the A1000MA-7 and F-91W. It quotes stylist Ayesha Amin Nigam describing the watch as “one of the few timepieces that slips into anyone’s life without demanding a costume change.” That is an observation about styling and wearability, not sales data.
Casio has also actively positioned its older designs as fashion items. At a Bangkok Vintage event in November 2025, the company highlighted the A158WA-1A, A230, and AQ240 as part of its vintage range. The release documents the brand’s promotion of these designs; it does not independently establish how many people bought them.

Does this mean all Y2K watches are booming?
No. The evidence supports a Casio-led revival in retro digital and vintage-inspired watches, but it does not establish a universal surge across watch brands, original early-2000s pieces, or the watch market as a whole. No reliable figure in the available sources quantifies the Y2K-watch trend itself, and the duration of the renewed interest is uncertain.
Broader watch-market figures should not be mistaken for Y2K-watch statistics. eBay’s 2026 Watchlist Trend Report says global jewelry and watches category listings rose nearly 20% in Q1 2026; that is a listing figure across a broad category, not watch sales or Y2K-specific demand. Its highlighted rising watch values focus on luxury models.

Chrono24’s H1 2025 Secondary Watch Market Report offers a different kind of context: it says Gen Z’s share of dress-watch sales increased 44% from 2018 to 2025, and that dress watches made up 12% of watches bought by Gen Z. Those findings concern dress watches, not retro digital models. The report also notes a slight dip in dress-watch demand in Asia and North America during H1 2025. None of these figures can be used as a measure of Y2K-watch demand.
What counts as a Y2K watch?
The label can describe several different things, so it helps to be precise:

- Y2K-inspired: A watch whose styling borrows from late-1990s or early-2000s fashion. The label describes its look, not when it was made.
- Retro-style or vintage-inspired: A current or continuing model that draws on an older design. The Casio A158WA-1A and F-91W are useful examples of retro digital styling, but a newly purchased example is not automatically an original from the Y2K era.
- Vintage original: A watch actually made during the period a seller claims. Its age and condition need to be assessed from the particular item, not inferred from its appearance.
Casio’s November 2025 Bangkok Vintage event release names the A158WA-1A as a flagship of its vintage range. In this context, “vintage” describes Casio’s design range and positioning; it does not mean every watch bearing that style is a period original.
