Audemars Piguet introduced Calibre 7138 in 2025 across three 41 mm self-winding perpetual-calendar watches: two Royal Oak models and one Code 11.59. Their calendar mechanism and crown-operated setting system are shared; the choice is primarily between collection design, case metal and dial treatment.
Which watches use Calibre 7138?
The three launch references pair the same movement with distinct case and dial combinations. Audemars Piguet describes the steel Royal Oak as a two-tone-effect design and the sand-gold Royal Oak as monochrome. The Code 11.59 takes a different route with a smoked-blue embossed dial.

All three are 41 mm and use the self-winding Calibre 7138. Audemars Piguet’s 2025 launch announcement presents the models as different designs built around one movement, not as separate calendar mechanisms. The steel Royal Oak, sand-gold Royal Oak and white-gold Code 11.59 product pages give the complete references.
What is Calibre 7138?
Calibre 7138 is Audemars Piguet’s in-house self-winding perpetual-calendar movement. A perpetual calendar tracks calendar indications, including leap-year variation, rather than requiring the wearer to correct the date at the end of every short month. The complication is mechanically complex; it does not mean the watch needs no care or that every adjustment is risk-free.

AP says the calendar functions are arranged on one layer and the crown-correction system on a second, with a movement profile of 4.1 mm. The display places the day at 9 o’clock, date at 12 and month at 3. The day subdial also carries a 24-hour indicator, while the month subdial is paired with a leap-year indication. AP also describes a patented progressive-step date disc designed to accommodate the width of different numerals and improve legibility. These are the manufacturer’s design descriptions, not independent test findings.
How is the 7138 perpetual calendar set?
The central practical change is the crown. AP says winding, time setting and calendar adjustments are handled through the crown, without separate calendar correctors or an additional correction tool. The heritage explanation describes four crown positions and different rotation directions as part of the control logic, but that overview is not a model-specific operating sequence.

- Use the official interactive manual for the exact reference and follow its instructions for the crown positions and adjustment directions. AP provides the manual through its Royal Oak 26674ST product page, Royal Oak 26674SG product page and Code 11.59 26494BC product page.
- Do not force the crown or an adjustment if you feel resistance. AP’s Royal Oak perpetual-calendar heritage article notes that incorrectly timed calendar adjustments have historically risked damage to delicate mechanisms.

What changed from earlier AP perpetual calendars?
The 7138’s notable user-facing shift is its crown-based correction system. AP’s heritage archive says Calibre 5134, which reintroduced a week indication in 2015, remained in production until 2025 and identifies 7138 as its direct successor. That is a succession statement; it should not be read as evidence that 7138 is a direct technical continuation of the much older Calibre 2120 family.
The Royal Oak perpetual calendar itself is much older than 7138. AP records the first Royal Oak perpetual calendar, reference 25554, as a 1984 launch. In 1995, the Royal Oak Jubilee reference 25810OR used Calibre 2120/2801 and was issued as a 120-piece limited edition, according to the AP heritage archive.

What AP says about the movement—and what it does not establish
Lucas Raggi, Audemars Piguet’s Research and Development Director, called Calibre 7138 “a major innovation in the design of perpetual calendars.” He added: “By placing ergonomics at the heart of our research and development, we have created a unique correction mechanism that allows all adjustments to be made via the crown.” Those statements describe the manufacturer’s rationale for the design.
AP says the calibre incorporates three patented mechanisms, but its cited launch and product material does not explain each patent in enough detail to identify or compare them. The described progressive-step date disc and crown-correction arrangement are the features it explains; further technical claims would go beyond that published detail.

Sébastian Vivas, AP’s Heritage and Museum Director, describes the perpetual calendar as “like a small mechanical computer on the wrist capable of keeping the date correct for an entire century.” This is an explanation of the complication in general, not a guarantee that a particular watch will keep a perfectly correct date for a century under all conditions.

One model has a specific award distinction: AP’s current product page says the sand-gold Royal Oak 26674SG won the Iconic Watch Prize at the 2025 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. That award applies to the 26674SG reference, not automatically to the other two Calibre 7138 watches.
