The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin reference 16202BC.OO.1240BC.02 pairs the collection’s slim 39 mm format with an 18K white-gold case and bracelet, and a blue grained dial. Collectors often call this texture “Tuscan,” but that nickname is not an official model name, and the modern dial is an interpretation of the historical look—not an exact vintage reproduction.
What is the AP Royal Oak Jumbo 16202 Tuscan dial?
It is the white-gold version of the 2022-generation Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin, reference 16202BC.OO.1240BC.02. Audemars Piguet’s product description calls attention to its new grainy blue dial; “Tuscan” is collector and editorial shorthand for a family of grained Royal Oak dials, not part of the official reference name. Audemars Piguet’s product page identifies the model and its materials.
The watch keeps the 39 mm proportions associated with the Jumbo while using an extra-thin automatic movement. Its case and integrated bracelet are both 18K white gold, giving the familiar angular Royal Oak profile a precious-metal presence distinct from the steel version. Published hands-on coverage describes the white-gold watch as heavier than steel; how that weight and the cool-toned metal feel on the wrist is a matter of personal preference.

What makes the blue grained dial different?
The dial is the watch’s defining visual departure from a conventional Jumbo presentation. Its blue surface has a fine, irregular-looking grain that catches light differently from a uniform, smooth finish. Monochrome reports that the colour is produced with PVD and a translucent coating, with applied white-gold markers and hands and a matching date disc.
Monochrome quotes Audemars Piguet describing the texture as “a finer and brighter grain that plays with the light differently”. That wording captures the distinction AP emphasizes: a contemporary treatment of the grained effect, not a claim that every feature reproduces an earlier dial exactly.

Why collectors say “Tuscan”
“Tuscan” is an informal name associated with older grained Royal Oak dials. Its origin is unclear: SJX says it is lost to time, while Monochrome describes it as collector and dealer terminology whose connection to Tuscany is uncertain. Historical examples have been reputedly hand-hammered, but the nickname alone does not establish one method for every vintage dial—or for this modern one.
The 14802 Jubilee connection
The closest historical reference discussed in coverage of the modern dial is the Royal Oak 14802 Jubilee, introduced in 1992 for the model’s 20th anniversary. Phillips’ catalogue says the modern blue grainy effect evokes that history; it does not establish that the modern dial and a vintage 14802 dial are identical. Phillips reports that only 20 platinum 14802 examples were made, with two dial options and an unknown distribution between them. That historical production detail is about the 14802, not the 16202BC.

How the 16202 fits the Jumbo lineage
The Royal Oak began in 1972 with reference 5402. The 39 mm, extra-thin descendants retained the “Jumbo” name as other Royal Oak models grew larger. Audemars Piguet’s historical account traces the lineage through the 14802 (1992), 15202 (2000) and 16202 (2022), the generation that replaced the 15202 in the Royal Oak’s 50th-anniversary year.
The 16202 introduced calibre 7121 in place of calibre 2121. AP says the new movement was developed and produced by its engineers and watchmakers. In the company’s comparison, the 7121 offers a 55-hour power reserve versus 40 hours for the 2121, and runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour versus 19,800. It also has a fast date-setting system. These changes update the movement while preserving the line’s thin, 39 mm format. Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak Jumbo history gives the brand’s account of the generations and calibre change.

What did the 16202BC cost, and what do market figures mean?
There is no single figure here that should be treated as a current, universal price. The available numbers refer to different dates, regions and kinds of evidence:
| Figure | What it represents |
|---|---|
| EUR 78,000 including taxes; CHF 65,000 before taxes; CHF 70,100 including taxes | Launch pricing reported by Monochrome Watches in 2023. Tax treatment differs by region; these are dated launch figures, not verified current retail prices. |
| US$127,000 | A 2023 Phillips auction result for a virtually new, unworn 16202BC.OO.1240BC.02 with box and papers. It is one realized lot, not a typical-market benchmark. |
| Approximately C$133,000 retail estimate | WatchCharts’ estimate displayed for June 2026 on its Canadian page. |
| C$154,242 market estimate | WatchCharts’ model estimate dated September 8, 2026. The page covers multiple variations; an estimate is not a guaranteed sale price. |
The launch figures are reported in Monochrome’s report. Phillips documents the individual auction lot and result in its New York Watch Auction XIV catalogue record. The estimates are shown on WatchCharts’ Canadian model page. Because an announced launch price, one auction sale and a model estimate measure different things, none alone establishes what a buyer should expect to pay today.

What to check when comparing 16202 examples
Comparisons are most useful when the watches and price evidence actually match. For another 16202 variant, check:
- Reference and configuration: confirm the full reference and whether the watch is standard or gem-set.
- Metal and dial: distinguish case material, resulting heft and appearance, and dial colour and texture.
- Price basis: separate dated official pricing from an asking price, an auction result and a model estimate.
- Sale context: match geography, year, condition and completeness, including box and papers.
- Availability: distinguish an official retail offer from a secondary-market listing; the figures above do not establish current boutique availability.
For an individual secondary-market comparison, the Phillips lot is an example with a specific condition and completeness; WatchCharts is a model estimate covering multiple variations. They are not directly interchangeable measures.
