The Baltic MR01, HMS 002 and Bicompax 002 Gold PVD share black dials, gold-coated steel and vintage-inspired stepped cases, but they serve different purposes: the MR01 is the smallest, thinnest automatic; the HMS 002 is a larger three-hand automatic with a longer stated reserve; and the Bicompax 002 is a hand-wound chronograph that Baltic says was sold until April 2025.

How the MR01, HMS 002 and Bicompax 002 differ
Baltic MR01: the compact, thin dress-watch option
The MR01 is the smallest and thinnest of the three. Its 36 mm case, 44 mm lug-to-lug measurement and 9.9 mm overall thickness give it the least case presence on paper. The thickness falls to 8 mm without the high-domed Hesalite crystal, so the complete watch is taller than the bare case measurement might suggest.
Its automatic Hangzhou CAL5000a micro-rotor is visible through a transparent caseback. On the glossy black dial, the small-seconds register sits at 7 o’clock rather than at the more familiar 6. Baltic lists a 42-hour reserve and 30 m / 3 ATM water resistance. Those specifications make the MR01 the natural choice here if you want an automatic with a smaller footprint and an off-centre seconds display.

HMS 002: a larger three-hand automatic with 60 hours of reserve
The HMS 002 is 38 mm across, 47 mm lug-to-lug and 13 mm thick including its high-domed Hesalite crystal; Baltic gives 10 mm without the crystal. Its automatic Miyota 8315 drives a conventional three-hand layout with central seconds, and the listed 60-hour reserve is longer than the 42 hours specified for either of the other two models.
The dial combines brushed and glossy finishes. Baltic lists 50 m / 5 ATM water resistance and describes the watch as dressy. Relative to the MR01, the HMS 002 occupies more space on the wrist and trades the micro-rotor and small seconds for a straightforward central-seconds display and longer stated reserve.

Bicompax 002: hand-wound chronograph, now an archived model
The Bicompax 002 shares the HMS 002’s stated 38 mm diameter, 47 mm lug-to-lug length and 13 mm profile, but uses that stepped case for a different proposition: a hand-wound chronograph powered by the Seagull ST1901. Baltic specifies timing up to 30 minutes and a 42-hour reserve. Fratello’s contemporary comparison gives the Gold PVD model a 5 ATM water-resistance rating.
Baltic’s archive says the collection was sold until April 2025, so the archive is not evidence of current new-product availability. Baltic describes the design’s inspiration in its own brand narrative: “That very watch was widely inspired by the famous step case style from the 1940s, the original waterproof chronograph case.”

Which Baltic Gold PVD watch should you choose?
- Choose the MR01 if the smallest dimensions, a thinner profile, an automatic micro-rotor and a 7 o’clock small-seconds register are your priorities.
- Choose the HMS 002 if you want a central-seconds automatic with the longest stated power reserve in this group, and prefer its larger 38 mm case.
- Look for the Bicompax 002 on the secondary market if you specifically want a hand-wound chronograph in this case style. Baltic’s stated sale period ended in April 2025; check the individual watch’s condition, completeness and seller details.
The measurements support a comparison of case dimensions, not a guarantee of fit: wrist shape and personal preference matter. Each model has a listed 20 mm lug width, so a correctly sized strap is relevant. Baltic says its own straps are compatible with the HMS 002; for any third-party strap, confirm both its width and attachment before ordering.

Fratello’s circa-2023 launch coverage reported prices excluding taxes of €545 for the MR01, €385 for the HMS 002 and €565 for the Bicompax 002. These are historical launch-era figures, not current quotes or a guide to today’s secondary-market prices. The Bicompax’s archived status makes that distinction especially important; ask sellers for a current price and verify the exact reference and condition.
