The Berneron Quantième Annuel combines jumping hours with a full annual calendar in a 38 mm platinum watch, separating time and calendar information across the dial. Its appeal is the unusual display and the maker’s effort to make a complex calendar easier to live with; the tradeoffs are a CHF 140,000 price excluding VAT, 30 m water resistance and a highly specialized movement whose real-world reliability is not established by the published specifications. This is a review of the documented design and specifications, not a report of independent testing or long-term wear.
What the Quantième Annuel does
Berneron’s Quantième collection includes this annual-calendar model in Silver and Black executions. The Silver model’s current official listing describes Calibre 595 as a hand-wound annual calendar with jumping hours. The dial combines four instantaneous jumping apertures, two sweeping hands and a retrograde date: hours, day, month and AM/PM are shown in apertures, while central minutes and small seconds use hands. The date indication travels retrograde rather than making a full circuit. Berneron’s current technical listing is the reference for the published configuration.
The organizing idea is a visual division between time and calendar information. Berneron calls the movement’s approach “cross architecture,” with separate regulators for the time and calendar displays. That offers a distinct alternative to a conventional layout of central hour and minute hands with calendar windows grouped around them. It is also a more demanding arrangement to read at a glance if a wearer expects familiar hands for the hours.
How the annual calendar works
An annual calendar accounts for months of different lengths but needs a correction once each year; it is not a perpetual calendar. Berneron says Calibre 595 requires correction on February 28. The brand’s description places the annual correction within a system of four energy periods—12 hours, 24 hours, seven days and 31 days—and a double barrel. It also highlights the simultaneous changes at midnight on December 31, when five indications jump. Those are the maker’s explanations of the design challenge, not independently verified performance or reliability results.

For the wearer, the practical proposition is fewer calendar corrections than a simple date display, without the complexity of a perpetual calendar. The exact setting sequence and any precautions for adjusting the watch are not specified in the cited product listing, so a buyer should get the instructions from Berneron rather than infer them from the display.
Calibre 595: current specifications and the reserve discrepancy
Berneron currently lists Calibre 595 with a 120-hour, or five-day, power reserve. The movement is hand-wound, runs at 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour), and contains 476 components and 33 jewels. These figures are the maker’s current published specifications, not measurements from an independent test. The official listing gives the current reserve figure.
There is a difference in published figures: Time and Watches reported a 100-hour reserve in its September 1, 2025 launch report, while Berneron’s current listing states 120 hours. The available information does not establish why the figures differ or whether the earlier report referred to a prototype, so 120 hours is the appropriate figure for the present specification and 100 hours should be treated as an earlier report, not an explanation of the change. Case dimensions, materials and daily-use tradeoffs
The Silver execution measures 38 mm across, 45 mm lug-to-lug and 10 mm thick. Its core case is Pt950 platinum, with a six-part layer of removable 904L steel components at contact surfaces. The maker says the steel layer is intended to protect exposed platinum surfaces and let worn components be replaced. That is a serviceability concept, not a guarantee against scratches or damage.
The listed dial is silver opalin on an 18K gold base plate, with 18K white-gold hands. Both crystals are sapphire with inner anti-reflective coating. The strap is Barenia leather, tapering from 20 mm to 16 mm, and water resistance is rated at 30 m / 3 ATM. That rating is a specification rather than an assurance of suitability for swimming or other water activity. Dimensions and materials are from Berneron’s Silver model page.
At 38 mm in diameter and 10 mm thick, the listed dimensions are restrained for a watch with this many displays, but dimensions alone cannot establish how it will fit a particular wrist. The 45 mm lug-to-lug measurement is useful context when assessing fit; trying it on is the surest way to judge comfort and visual presence.

Setting protection, caseback and servicing
Berneron describes the officer-style caseback as crown-activated and says it protects the movement from impacts and UV exposure; the caseback can also be engraved. These are the maker’s stated functions and options. The product listing gives the caseback and material details.
The same page lists a two-year warranty and says service intervals may range from five to ten years depending on use. Berneron describes service through a local watchmaker under an arrangement with the company or at its Neuchâtel workshop. Its FAQ also describes local-watchmaker service using component kits and returns to Switzerland for repairs or ten-year maintenance. Before purchase, confirm the warranty terms, service route, costs and applicable timing with the brand; the published descriptions do not settle the terms for every buyer or repair.

Berneron lists the Silver Quantième Annuel at CHF 140,000 excluding VAT, with production of 24 pieces per year and allocation on demand. The FAQ says the model was priced at CHF 120,000 in its first year and CHF 130,000 in its second, reaching CHF 140,000 from 2028. The brand says worldwide shipping is included, while buyers are responsible for exchange fees and applicable taxes on delivery. The collection page also lists “Annuel Black” at 38 mm, but a listing alone does not establish that a particular execution is currently available for allocation. What published hands-on coverage can—and cannot—tell you
There is published prototype and hands-on coverage, but it is not long-term owner evidence. Monochrome reported visiting Sylvain Berneron and handling early prototypes in September 2025. SJX published hands-on coverage in August 2026 and discusses the watch’s regulator-style jumping hours and instantaneous annual calendar. Fratello’s 2025 introduction explicitly said its author had not yet handled the watch. These articles offer outside perspectives on the design and, in some cases, access to prototypes; none establishes long-term durability or broad owner experience.
Who should consider it?
The Quantième Annuel is most compelling for a collector who values an unconventional, carefully separated time-and-calendar display and is willing to accept a high price, low stated annual production and specialist after-sales arrangements. The annual correction, five-day current stated reserve and compact listed dimensions strengthen its practical case on paper. The 30 m water resistance and lack of established long-term owner evidence are relevant counterweights, especially for someone seeking an everyday watch with proven durability or easy servicing.
No named competing annual-calendar watches have been established here on a current, like-for-like basis. A fair comparison would need to check each alternative’s correction schedule and setting precautions, dial legibility, dimensions, movement and reserve, case materials, water resistance, production availability, service arrangements and current price. Without those verified figures, ranking the Berneron against named rivals would be misleading.
