The best Year of the Dragon watch depends on whether you want an overt, colorful design or a limited-edition collector piece. Swatch’s five-model collection is the accessible, explicitly themed choice; Longines and Baume & Mercier offer more restrained luxury options; Blancpain’s Villeret is the technically ambitious outlier. These are 2024 releases, so launch details and edition sizes do not establish what is in stock or what a watch costs today.
How to choose a Year of the Dragon watch
Start with the way you want the zodiac motif to appear. Swatch puts it prominently on the watch; Longines uses a dragon engraved on the caseback; Baume & Mercier uses dragon imagery across a two-watch Riviera release; Blancpain integrates a Chinese calendar into a complex calendar-and-moonphase display.
Then weigh size and complications against how you will wear the watch. The options range from a 33mm Riviera to Blancpain’s 45mm red-gold Villeret, and from straightforward themed designs to moonphase and Chinese-calendar indications. Finally, treat limited quantities as historical release information, not evidence of present availability or future value.

Longines: a restrained caseback motif with moonphase
The Flagship Heritage Year of the Dragon is a 2024 special edition of Longines’s Flagship Heritage moonphase model. Chinese artist Zinan Lam designed the dragon engraved on the caseback, leaving the dial less overtly themed than the Swatch designs. Longines called it “the first Asian Zodiac timepiece ever to be launched by Longines, in a limited edition of 888 pieces.” The 38.5mm case measurement comes from Time+Tide’s 2024 report, rather than the cited Longines release.

Those reports describe different publications’ launch-era coverage, not a current retail price or present availability. Longines’s release establishes the special edition and quantity, but does not establish current stock.
Baume & Mercier: choose between two Riviera sizes
Baume & Mercier announced two Riviera references as an exclusive pair in limited quantities of 150 pieces worldwide. The 10743 is the smaller, 33mm automatic: it has a mother-of-pearl dial, diamonds, and dragon imagery on the caseback. The 10744 is a 43mm Baumatic Moon-phase Date, with a moonphase display and dragon imagery. The manufacturer’s release does not establish current stock or provide a price.

Blancpain: the complication-led collector choice
The Villeret Traditional Chinese Calendar combines a Chinese calendar display with the Gregorian date and moonphase. Blancpain describes four dedicated hands for the Chinese calendar, plus Zodiac and leap-month windows, beneath a green grand feu enamel dial in a 45mm red-gold case. Its 2024 edition is limited to 50 pieces.
Blancpain says the movement has 464 components and a seven-day power reserve. This is a high-complexity collector watch rather than a budget-oriented recommendation; the cited brand article does not state a price.

Other watches released for the 2024 zodiac year
A 2024 specialist comparison also documented dragon-themed watches from Bell & Ross, Hublot, Arnold & Son, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Grand Seiko, Casio G-Shock, Ball, Ulysse Nardin, IWC, and TAG Heuer. The designs ranged from sculptural precious-metal pieces to red dials and a large G-Shock. Because a comparison is not a current product listing, check a manufacturer’s information before relying on any specific model detail or price. Time+Tide’s 2024 comparison
Hodinkee’s 2024 roundup also described TAG Heuer steel and gold editions limited to 300 and 50 pieces, respectively. Those quantities and Longines’s reported sold-out status are historical editorial reporting, not proof of present availability. Hodinkee’s 2024 roundup
Which one should you choose?
- For a conspicuous dragon design and the lowest documented regional price: start with Swatch Dragon in Waves, listed at €90 on Swatch Belgium’s page. That is a regional listing, not a verified current worldwide price or stock check.
- For a more understated everyday look: consider Longines’s 38.5mm Flagship Heritage, where the dragon is on the caseback and the moonphase is the main dial complication. The size is reported by Time+Tide; present availability is not established.
- For a choice of case size within a matched luxury release: compare the 33mm Riviera 10743 with the 43mm moonphase 10744. Their announced worldwide limited quantity is 150 pieces for the pair.
- For the most elaborate calendar display: Blancpain’s 45mm Villeret combines Chinese and Gregorian calendar indications with moonphase in a 50-piece edition.
For any of the limited releases, confirm stock, condition, and asking price with the seller before making a purchase. An announced edition size is not a measure of what is available now, and it does not establish investment performance.
