Breitling acquired historic Swiss watch brand Gallet in March 2025 to build a multi-brand group, and Gallet returned with a relaunched collection on September 3, 2026. The current lineup spans a $2,900 US-listed automatic Flying Officer to selected $6,700 Gallet Classics chronographs, with the latter using Breitling’s hand-wound B09 manufacture caliber.
Why Breitling acquired Gallet
Breitling announced the acquisition in March 2025, presenting Gallet as a Swiss watch name founded in 1826. The deal fits a portfolio strategy with Gallet positioned below Breitling and Universal Genève—acquired by Breitling in 2023—above it. In a Fratello interview, Breitling CEO Georges Kern described Gallet as a sister brand with its own identity and target customer, while still integrated into Breitling boutiques and distribution. The commercial logic is to reach buyers who consider Breitling too expensive and give retailers watches at more than one price tier. That is a strategic aim, not evidence that the acquisition guarantees sales or market success. No purchase price or detailed transaction terms have been established in the cited coverage.
What changed between the 2025 announcement and the 2026 launch
At announcement, Kern said Gallet would be priced from slightly below CHF 3,000 to around CHF 5,000. He also said Breitling in-house movements were not then planned for Gallet and that its watches would not undergo COSC certification. Those were statements about the plan in March 2025, not a definitive description of the line that eventually launched. Fratello and Hodinkee reported those announcement-era expectations.

Gallet announced its full relaunch on September 3, 2026. The brand says its watches are manufactured by Breitling and use Breitling’s technical, distribution, and after-sales infrastructure. The most notable change from the original movement expectations is the Gallet Classics collection, whose official launch material specifies Breitling’s hand-wound B09 manufacture chronograph caliber. Gallet’s press lounge carries the relaunch material; the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry had also reported on the planned return in July 2026: Federation update.

Collection descriptions and heritage framing come from Gallet’s official relaunch materials and the US collection catalog. Historical details, including the Flying Officer’s Truman association, are reported by JCK and brand materials; they should be understood as attributed legacy claims.
What the acquisition means for buyers
Gallet is not being presented simply as a separate name on a dial: the brand says Breitling manufactures the relaunched watches and supplies the technical and after-sales infrastructure. Managing Director Erwan Rossignol said, “By manufacturing every watch within Breitling’s infrastructure, we’re able to honor that heritage while ensuring the quality, reliability, and service expected from a modern Swiss watch brand.” The statement appears in Gallet’s September 2026 relaunch release.

For a shopper, the practical comparison is between a $2,900 automatic travel watch, $4,400 chronographs, and selected $6,700 Classics, rather than between today’s catalog and the 2025 forecast. The collection pages provide current prices and model information, but the cited sources do not establish a broader market-value judgment or availability through any particular outside retailer.

Gallet’s story is centered on chronographs and instruments for travel, aviation, and motor racing. Its Flying Officer was designed for tracking multiple time zones, while the Multichron family is associated with racing and other timing applications. Kern described the revival as a long-term effort “reviving Gallet as a strong brand in watchmaking while honoring its legacy of adventure and innovation in chronographs,” in a statement reported by JCK on March 18, 2025.

The relaunch translates those associations into distinct collection roles: travel for Flying Officer, exploration for Multichron Pilot, speed and off-road use for Multichron Sport, and archival-inspired chronographs for Gallet Classics. Those are the brand’s own collection framings, not independent performance assessments.
