Breitling’s 2023 Top Time Classic Cars refresh paired four car-inspired chronographs—the Ford Thunderbird, Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Corvette and Shelby Cobra—with the brand’s Manufacture Caliber 01. It added the Thunderbird, updated the other three editions with the B01 movement, and, according to contemporaneous launch coverage, reduced the case from 42 mm to 41 mm. This is a look back at that generation change, not a new 2026 launch.
What changed in the 2023 Top Time Classic Cars generation?
The update brought the Ford Thunderbird into the Classic Cars group and replaced the movements in the existing Mustang, Corvette and Shelby Cobra editions with Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01. Hodinkee’s launch coverage reported that the revised watches have 41 mm cases, down from 42 mm on the preceding car editions. Breitling says it enhanced the case to accommodate the movement.

These are the defining changes of the 2023 refresh. The tourbillon-equipped Top Time B21 models shown alongside the Classic Cars range on Breitling’s collection page are separate watches, not another version of this B01 update.
How the four car editions differ
Breitling groups all four watches under Top Time Classic Cars, using colors and emblems associated with their automotive inspirations. The table identifies each edition and separates the shared generation update from the edition-specific identity. Breitling’s official page lists named models and references, but the information available here does not establish a complete strap-or-bracelet matrix or live stock status.

What does the B01 movement and case offer?
Breitling describes Manufacture Caliber 01 as a COSC-certified automatic chronograph movement with approximately 70 hours of power reserve and a five-year warranty. The manufacturer also states that the enhanced case is water-resistant to 100 m (10 bar). These are Breitling’s specifications and warranty statements; consult the applicable model listing and warranty terms for the watch being considered.
How Breitling frames the cars behind the dials
Breitling presents the collection as drawing on the colors and emblems of 1950s and 1960s sports cars. Its historical summaries associate the Corvette edition with 1963–1967, the first-generation Mustang with 1964–1974, and the Thunderbird with the “Classic Bird” and “Square Bird” generations. Those date ranges and labels are Breitling’s characterizations.

At the March 21, 2023 launch, Breitling CEO Georges Kern described the collection as pursuing “that sense of freedom and fun” and said the company was “thrilled to once again partner with Ford” for the Thunderbird and updated Mustang, Corvette and Shelby Cobra chronographs. The announcement establishes the launch framing; it does not provide production totals.

What should buyers verify before choosing one?
- Confirm the generation. Check that the listing is for the B01 Classic Cars watch, not an older 42 mm edition or a separate Top Time B21 model.
- Match edition and reference. For the Mustang and Shelby Cobra, the references identified above are AB01762A1L1A1 and AB01763A1C1X1, respectively. Verify the reference on the actual listing and paperwork.
