The 2024 Bulgari Octo Finissimo Sketch editions put an illustrated movement drawing on the dial: steel reference 104163 is limited to 280 pieces, while rose-gold reference 104165 is limited to 70. Both are 40 mm automatic watches powered by Bulgari’s BVL138 calibre, with a 60-hour power reserve and 100 m water resistance. The available sources establish their design and specifications, but not a firsthand wrist test.
What makes the Octo Finissimo Sketch editions different?
The defining feature is an illustration, not an openworked dial. WatchTime describes the dial as a drawing of the movement by Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani, Bulgari’s Product Creation Executive Director, printed onto the dial blank. The drawing depicts details including the plate decoration, escapement, microrotor, screws and jewels. Bulgari’s steel product page describes the satin-vertical brass-rhodium dial as replicating the sketch of the movement that powers the watch, calling it a tribute to freehand drawing and the blend of art and technique. Bulgari’s description is the brand’s own account of the concept.
The graphic treatment leaves no conventional hour markers. WatchTime notes skeletonized central hour and minute hands and a small-seconds display at 7 o’clock. The design asks the wearer to read the hands against an illustrated mechanism rather than a plain dial; the sources describe the layout, but do not establish how easy it is to read in everyday conditions.

The watches share their principal dimensions, calibre family, reserve and water-resistance rating. The meaningful differences are material, edition size and regional price reference. Edition size alone does not establish likely resale performance.

Movement and proportions
The BVL138 is an automatic calibre with a platinum microrotor. Bulgari’s Japan release gives its thickness as 2.23 mm; the official product pages list 36 jewels and a 60-hour reserve, with the steel page also specifying 3 Hz, or 21,600 vibrations per hour. The thin movement is paired with a 40 mm case measuring 6.40 mm thick in both editions, according to Bulgari.
Those figures explain the watches’ slim profile on paper, but they are not a substitute for a fit assessment. No verified firsthand account here establishes bracelet articulation, clasp feel, comfort on different wrists, finishing in changing light or practical dial legibility.

Anniversary context and release
WatchTime places the Sketch launch in Bulgari’s 140th-anniversary year, 2024, and says the Octo Finissimo line had set nine records over the preceding decade. That record count is WatchTime’s characterization, rather than an independently verified manufacturer figure. Bulgari Japan’s release listed the rose-gold 104165 for planned release in September 2024.
Price and availability: treat regional listings separately
At access in 2026, Bulgari’s international product page showed €17,800 for steel 104163, while the Hong Kong page showed HK$414,000 for rose-gold 104165. These are localized page prices, not a single current worldwide price or confirmation of stock everywhere. WatchTime’s 2024 report gave launch prices of €17,800 for steel and €51,000 for rose gold. Prices and purchase availability can change by market and date, so a buyer should check the relevant local Bulgari listing.

Who should consider each edition?
Steel 104163
The steel edition is the less scarce of the two, with 280 pieces, and offers the movement-sketch concept in stainless steel. It is the natural choice for someone drawn to the graphic dial and lighter visual treatment of steel rather than the precious-metal contrast.
Rose gold 104165
The rose-gold edition reduces the run to 70 pieces and carries the sketch dial across a matching 18 kt case and bracelet. Its precious-metal construction and substantially higher reported euro launch price set it apart; choose it for that material and presentation, not on the assumption that lower production guarantees a financial return.

Keep the 2024 editions distinct from other Sketch watches
The 104163 and 104165 are the automatic steel and rose-gold Sketch editions discussed here. Bulgari also previously made a titanium Octo Finissimo Sketch for the collection’s 10th anniversary, reference 103672; it is a separate watch and should not be confused with these 2024 references. A search result also names a 2024 Chronograph GMT Sketch, reference 104192, but its cited article could not be verified here and no official product page was established, so its specifications are not included.
