The Bulova Super Seville is a modern revival of the brand’s 1970s Day-Date design, pairing a retro case-and-bracelet look with a Precisionist quartz movement. The current collection is not one uniform specification: case widths, dial materials, finishes and date displays vary by reference. Bulova says its 262kHz movement is accurate to seconds per year and has a sweeping seconds hand; those are manufacturer claims, not independently verified test results here.
What is the Bulova Super Seville?
Bulova positions the Super Seville as a return to its 1970s Super Seville Day-Date design. The brand’s collection page frames it as a throwback to that decade, while the current watches use Precisionist quartz rather than a vintage mechanical movement. The heritage connection is therefore about design and naming, not evidence that the modern watch continues the original movement.
The revival’s appeal is the contrast: a retro-inspired case and bracelet paired with modern quartz technology. Bulova’s current assortment also includes stone dials and multiple finishes, so the collection is better understood as a family of stylistic variations than as a single watch with one fixed set of specifications.
What is different about the modern movement?
Bulova describes the current Super Seville’s proprietary Precisionist movement as an 8-jewel quartz mechanism that vibrates at 262kHz. The company says it is accurate to seconds per year, has increased resistance to temperature changes and drives a sweeping seconds hand. These are Bulova’s descriptions; no independent accuracy or temperature testing is established here.
#1 Best Overall
- Drawing inspiration from the incredible Bulova Super Seville Day-Date of the 1970s, the men's Bulova Super Seville merges retro aesthetics with state-of-the-art movement technology for a timeless modern appeal
- With versatility for every style, the gold- and silver-tone stainless steel 38mm case strikes a bold stance with a seamless silhouette created by the TV-shaped case transitioning into the integrated 3-link two-tone stainless steel bracelet, which features a push-button deployant clasp
- The new Bulova Super Seville is powered by our proprietary high-precision quartz Precisionist movement, a revolutionary 8-jewel quartz mechanism vibrating at a remarkable 262kHz, accurate to seconds per year with increased resistance to temperature changes, and with a smooth sweeping second hand
The sweeping hand gives the watch a different visual rhythm from the familiar one-second ticking of many quartz watches. It does not make the Super Seville mechanical: Bulova identifies the movement as quartz.
How do the current Super Seville references compare?
These official U.S. product-page examples show why it is worth checking the reference rather than relying on the collection name alone. Bulova’s listed water-resistance wording for all three is “WR [Splash Resistant]”; the pages do not establish a depth rating, so that label should not be read as a swimming or diving recommendation.
