Burberry The Britain is a genuine watch collection introduced in 2012, but “The Britain” describes a range—not one standard specification. Launch-era models included automatic watches with different complications, while documented resale examples include quartz watches in smaller case sizes. What are Burberry Britain watches?
The Britain was a Burberry watch collection launched in 2012. Burberry’s 2012/13 annual report describes the men’s and women’s mechanical collection as inspired by the trench coat, with functional design and craftsmanship intended to support the brand’s luxury positioning. The company’s 2012/13 annual report and 2013/14 annual review document the collection’s early development.
In contemporaneous launch coverage, WatchPro reported that The Britain was Burberry’s first automatic watch collection. The design drew on trench-coat details and colors, with square cases, buckles and rivets among the cues. That description captures the launch concept, not a guarantee that every watch bearing The Britain name has the same movement or design.
Why do The Britain watches have different specifications?
The Britain is a collection name, not a single model specification. WatchPro’s October 2012 launch report described automatic models with power-reserve or chronograph functions, in reported 43 mm and 47 mm case sizes. It also mentioned ETA, Ronda and Soprod self-winding mechanical movements, steel and black PVD finishes, bracelets and alligator straps, and a women’s stone-set bezel model. These are launch-period details and should not be applied to every later reference.

Burberry’s 2013/14 review noted women’s Britain watches and limited editions, including a men’s automatic chronograph. Resale appraisal records also show quartz versions: BBY1502 and BBY1804. The movement, complication, dimensions and materials therefore need to be checked against the individual reference rather than inferred from the collection name.

Is Burberry still making The Britain watches?
Burberry’s official reports cited here establish the collection’s history, not present-day stock or a current watch-service policy. A secondary watch guide says the Fossil licensing partnership ended in 2017 and that Burberry has not released a new watch collection since. Search evidence includes resale appraisals and a specialist retailer’s Burberry collection page, so pre-owned or old-stock examples may appear. A page listing a collection does not establish that a particular reference is in stock now. How to assess a pre-owned Burberry Britain watch
Confirm the reference and movement
Ask for the reference number and clear photographs of the dial, case, case back and clasp. Confirm whether the specific watch is quartz or automatic, and whether its functions—such as date, chronograph or power reserve—work as described. A collection-level description or stock photo is not enough to identify a particular watch.
Check size, condition and completeness
Compare the stated case size with your wrist and, if possible, try the watch on; the documented examples range from 34 mm and 37 mm quartz models to launch-reported 43 mm and 47 mm models. Inspect the crystal, case and finish for damage, the bracelet for stretch, and the strap for wear. Ask what is included—such as box, papers or service records—and whether the watch is operating. These details can differ significantly between examples.

Read the seller’s protections carefully
Check the return policy and the exact scope of any authentication or condition assessment. A marketplace appraisal is not the same as a manufacturer guarantee: The RealReal’s report says its description is not a warranty and may partly depend on information supplied by the consignor. Do not treat an appraisal, authentication label or estimated retail figure as proof of future performance or current value.
Plan for service based on the actual watch
If a watch needs attention, ask a repairer whether they have experience with its specific reference and movement before authorizing work. A secondary guide identifies independent watch repair as a possible route for battery replacement, automatic movement service and strap work, while noting that brand-specific parts may be harder to source. Confirm parts availability and the repairer’s scope directly; needs differ between quartz and automatic watches.
